MAGNIFICENT!

COMMANDING!

MAJESTIC!

RESPLENDENT!

I cannot recommend it highly enough, and I strongly recommend the 3D version.

I saw it at an AMC theatre with Digital 3D. I've seen a couple I-MAX 3D things and they were cool but made my eyes feel weird and strained by the end, but this whole long movie left my eyes still comfortable and clear, so maybe the new Digital 3D thing in the theatres is a better technology (you still wear the polarized glasses, but they were just fine to me).

If you like dark fantasy (and who on a Thief forum doesn't) you will like Beowulf. If you hate any changes to original stories, then maybe you should stay away, but if you can appreciate a story for it's own merit then this one is very good. The animation is the best ever, much better than Final Fantasy Spirits Within, with some moments actually appearing fully real (but for the most part it's still obviously CG). There is a sublime beauty to nearly every moment of the film, from the darkest gruesome slayings to the most regal castle or epic ocean vistas.

See this movie!

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm on the fence for Beowulf considering the tale is told in movie form so bloody often, however Zemeckis has an excellent track record (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, Cast Away).

I'm confused though  I thought the Dark Mod isn’t Thief :P

I remember the first time watching the trailer to this, and just by looking at their manner of dress and knowing there were heroes and monsters, not knowing anything about it yet, I said to myself, I wonder if this is Beowulf. That would be cool. And a few seconds later, sure enough it was! One of those moments when you just nail something at first glance.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

The CG isn't that good, in fact looking the trailers, a lot of it looks like the average level you see on forums like CG talk. The animation is good because its all motion capture and lip syncing.

Judging only from trailers I've seen, I hated it, and never want to see it. It looked like dumbed down kiddies crap.

I can't trust Komag's opinion since his ridiculous review of the Ice and Fire books.

Have you ever tried watching stuff for yourself and forming your own opinion? Just asking :P

No, I'd rather not waste the time or money. You expect me to go and watch every movie that gets released on the chance that it might be good?

The game got a terrible review; 40% average which isn't surprising I guess since most games using movie licenses are pretty crappy. I might go see this one since there so few movies about Vikings and I'm probably the only person on earth who liked 13th Warrior.

I liked 13th warrior, it was a cool low-tech fantasy adventure

Yeah, I liked ideas from that movie ... it dealt with an interesting period and region in history that's not dealt with very often. I liked the idea that people in medieval times were migrating all over the place, and the clash of cultures and languages ... dark ages globalization. And of course it was pretty straight up fantasy adventure, like Komag said. I would have liked it being more about the "diplomacy" of different cultures in the middle ages, maybe, but then there wouldn't have been as much sneaking around, pillaging, and fighting ... so I couldn't complain.

One thing that always interested me about Beowulf is that I was convinced that the story has its origins in human contact with neandrethal when they first entered Europe however many 10K's of years ago ... an actual other hominid species running around that was a real threat ... and the boogie man has been a distant, buried glimmer in our collective memories ever since, lurking in the shadows of folklore and myth.

Beowulf was ok. The animation is often of very high quality except for the faces. They still can't get faces right, although some of the scenes, and Beowulf's body at times, looked absolutely realistic.

What really spoilt it was the massive plot deviation and the stupid dialog. Yes, I know it was supposed to be "mature" but I don't see the point of much of the sex talk. It's not in the book and it just dumbed the film down.

If any Europeans see it can you confirm/deny Grendle sometimes speaking in Dutch please? That are a few things he says which were for all comprehension purposes to me (being half South African) Africaans/Dutch, but which could just be him speaking "funny" in the film. You'll know what I mean if/when you see it.

Haven't even heard of this one. Have to be on the look out, I trust Komags opinion but I've never read those books either ;)

Funny mention about FF, I saw that in the theater an a girl behind me had mentioned that something wasn't right about the main actress, or that she was a bad actress. Cracked me up, I don't think she new it was CG. Some people are easy to fool.

I'm sure I would have still liked the movie a lot if it weren't in 3D, but the 3D was quite an exhilerating thrill ride that I haven't had in a very long time, especially in the more action oriented scenes. It sort of brought back the feeling I had way back when I saw Jurassic Park the first time

Haha, that's a funny way to put it.

It's almost as if one was just copying ideas straight from the other. :P

Is there a script command to make a screenshot?
I just though it could be interesting to be able to create a screenshot at a certain point in time. Then use that screenshot possibly in a debrief.
I guess the second question is: Can you use a (in-game made) screenshot in a (debrief) gui?
