converting TGA to DDS

Done.

 

Deleted 350 TGAfiles with revision 7794 from the models/ subdirectory. The script only marks the file for deletion if the DDS version is actually newer than the TGA version so the operation should be totally safe.

TGA's were backed up to the hi res repsoitory though were they? We have to keep the originals for future editing.

I think so, but I am not sure. (I never backed any of them up because the highres repo only gives SVN errors for me)

That's true, but luckily SVN never loses anything ;) You can restore them by doing for instance:

 

svn update -r 7794 models/

 

which would restore the models subdirectory prior to the deletion, then you can copy any TGA file out of it. You can even restore single files if you know the name, like so:

 

svn update -r 7794 models/textures/props/blah/foo_bar_lit_d.tga

 

If any one needs a file, they can also just ask me and I happy restore it for them.

I think it has problems, as you only specify the name of the file minus the suffix (it looks for specific suffixes) - _y, _z etc.

 

I think I remember trying to convert them to DDS and they stopped working (and I know that other DDS textures were showing up).

 

Go ahead and try to convert one set and see if it works, hopefully I am wrong :)

There was a question from greebo if it would be useful to convert the remaining TGA files from our GUI folder. Tohelp decide, here is a list of files, sorted by their size. Maybe we shouldjust convert anything over 1Mbyte and just leave the rest. (There might also be big and unused TGA files, we could just delete them if they are no longer nec.)

Edit: The map specific files should be moved to the respective PK4 files. I can do that if wanted.

It didn't work, they turn black. Shoot. Couldn't find the code in the SDK, so it probably is in the closed renderer :(

      Hey @nbohr1morehow come the zombies in The Dark Mod don't have a "resurrection" mechanic to it, similar to how Thief has it?
      They're quite a weak creature as of right now, it's merely a walking corpse that slashes you, making attacking them to kill them an actual strategy.
      Would be better if they had some cool mechanism to it that truly makes them a danger, such as the resurrection idea itself.

      Query: when was the last time a zombie in a video game was unnerving or scary to you? I'm chipping away at my anniversary submission and I've been trying to gather opinions on the subject. I'm perfectly capable of lighting them well, changing their sfx, and creating effective ambience, but I'm worried that zombies at their core are just too overdone to be an effective payoff to the tension I'm creating.

      Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.
