  1. There's supposed to be a Thief class in the game - it'd be pretty cool if they made the game both a true sequel to Underworld and a spiritual sequel to Thief. Light gem, anyone?
  2. Not that game, the original one you linked to at the top of your first post.
  3. FYI, the Underworld Kickstarter game is not a spiritual successor, it's a true sequel. Otherside has rights the the Underworld lore, just not the Ultima connection.
  4. @Noordung - here's the thread: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/13280-announcing-the-crucible-of-omens-a-campaign-for-the-dark-mod/
  5. Wouldn't need the rights for a "spiritual" successor. It would be something along the lines of TDM. I'm guessing they're starting with Underworld because that's where their roots are. It seems like a good possibility that if all goes well, Thief or System Shock (spiritual or otherwise) could be next.
  6. The current Kickstarter seems to be crawling to the finish, but I think they'll get there. I wonder how a Thief Kickstarter would do - seems safe to say it would fare significantly better.
  7. A friend of mine on TTLG by the name of redface created this image years ago of Stephen Russell/Garrett, I always thought it was pretty cool:
  8. I put the 2.03 update on the TTLG front page. I don't know if anyone even reads the front page at TTLG anymore, but it's there nonetheless.
  9. Warren Spector and Austin Grossman are consulting too, bringing the Looking Glass ties to six. This game should be very LGS like, and should be awesome. At a million bucks, they release a Builder Toolkit too, which I think any Thief or TDM fan can appreciate. So don't be afraid to pledge up a bit. I went in at the $50 mark, which gets you access to the alpha when it's available.
  10. Just like Thief or TDM, the game is only action heavy if you make it that way. I've got 30 hour into this game, and I've ghosted all the way through, for the most part. If you're forced to fight, and there's more than one AI you might as well give up. In that way, it's a lot like Thief. To dismiss this game just because of some low res textures is a mistake (unless you're just a complete graphics whore, I guess). The gameplay is great, it's the best stealth game released in several years. The levels emphasize vertical play, and most missions are fairly large. Tbh, I have doubts that you'll see any kind of enhancement pack released for such a low profile title. It was made by a small team, so of course it's not going to look like Far Cry 4 or Crysis. Anyway - I've been pimping this game on TTLG, and I'll do the same here. Fun game, interesting protagonist, and unique level design. Story isn't half bad either. Get it. Play it.
  11. Some of the scariest moments I've had in gaming in recent memory came from Aliens Isolation and Slender. I think the common tie in both situations is the fact that you are being actively hunted. DayZ would fit the mold as well. Most games just have AI standing around or patrolling an area, waiting for you to stumble upon them. But the knowledge that you can't just sit still, that you must act or die, can be terrifying. That coupled with an unpredictable AI behavior can really be an incredible horror experience. Tied into that is the fact that, at least in AI and Slender, that you cannot kill your pursuer. The only refuge is to hide or keep moving. That scenario can be pretty damn tense and provide the player without a lot of stressful moments.

    True Detective

Curious to know why you dislike TV shows in general, seems like a very arbitrary reason to judge something. Is it the acting, the sets, the writing...? Every show is different though. I can see how shows with longer seasons (16-24 episodes) might rub someone the wrong way because they can get a bit unfocused and drag on, but something like Game of Thrones with 10 episodes is very comparable to True Detective. In any case, I'm a big fan of every show you mentioned for different reasons, but True Detective is one of those rare events that really stuck with me and my wife while watching. I think it was the intensity level, but we just couldn't stop watching and every airing left us wanting more. I get a little bit of that with other shows, but not to the same degree. I think what also made TD unique was the great characters and the great actors that brought them to life. Season 2 has a lot to live up to.
  13. Thanks a lot for a great mission guys, really enjoyed it. Yeah, I admit the shakycam annoyed me, but I can still appreciate the effect. My one thought while playing was that it might have been more effective to only get the shaking when you had line of sight on the creature. It seemed a bit silly to get it when you were walking around outside the building and the thing wasn't even in view. But I applaud the creativity and the attempt to do something unique. One question - maybe I forgot using it, but what was the purpose of the Old Key?
  14. I thought it was hilarious how if you were under a desk and an android/synthetic knew it, they would walk over and kick you repeatedly until you either A) came out, or died.
  15. A game called Styx: Master of Shadows came out about a month ago, I've been wanting to check it out. Supposed to be somewhat similar to Thief, as far as old school stealth games go (although it is in third person). It's currently on sale on Steam for 20 bucks for the next day and a half or so. I picked it up, I'll offer a few comments back here once I've had a chance to play it for a bit. http://store.steampowered.com/app/242640/
  16. Still hard to believe we landed on a comet. The fact that said comet is over 300 million miles away from earth (more than triple the distance to the sun) and that we can coordinate all that shit from here is even more amazing.
  17. These are older missions that have been redone/retouched? Or brand new stuff?
  18. I was surprised to see no acknowledgement of the 5 year anniversary of the release of TDM (or maybe I just missed it). I know the mod has been around in other forms longer than that, but I always think of the day that TDM was first released to the public with the training mission, Chalice of Kings, Crown of Penitence, and The Outpost to be the official date. Fun to go back and read this thread too: http://www.ttlg.com/...ad.php?t=129171 Anyway, Happy Anniversary TDM. Here's to the next 5 years (and beyond)... Edit: I would help if I would have mentioned the actual date! October 17th, 2009.
  19. Have not played this game, but want to. Curious though - since it's so stealth based, is there any kind of indicators for how visible you are, or is it strictly line of sight?

    Thief 4

A cover system would require using more 3rd person, which IMO is not a good thing. Not very thieflike. Not to mention it (a cover system) is really designed for games where you're being shot at, so again, not really a good match for Thief. The light gem is supposed to be your tool for gauging whether you're in the shadows or not, but EM pretty much screwed that up too.
  21. @Aluminum - You're not alone. I think they found a fix for your issue in the thread over on TTLG, but you might have to search through it a bit to find it: http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=144452
  22. @Sir Taffsalot - it's been several weeks since you posted this and we haven't heard back, just wondered if there was ever any resolution to your situation.
  23. So, you've never played the Thieves Guild, Mages Towers, or Song of the Caverns levels?
  24. I'd say after that slap in the face, he lost any benefit of the doubt or rights to leniency. Report him. He needs to be taught a lesson. He can't say he wasn't warned, repeatedly. I've known some people like this, they'll push you to see far they can take it, so you should put your foot down now. I feel for you, because I know it'll make things awkward in the workplace going forward. But I think at this point it has to be done.
