  1. I shouldn't have any problem giving this a go, but I warn you that I'm not really a dev (my experience is mainly with PHP, which should tell you something of my skills, or lack thereof ).
  2. I can test this if you like, just pm me the details. I'm on 10.8.
  3. I believe if you copy the Doom 3 folder across you still need darkmod as a sub-directory, but you can rename the Doom 3 folder to whatever you want (e.g. TheDarkMod).
  4. Definitely looks more life like. I'll almost feel bad knocking him out now, almost ;-)
  5. I don't think Procedural is the best description of this idea, modular is a better fit. I think this would be a great idea if modular mission design (like Sotha is experimenting with) becomes the norm, but that doesn't seem likely. Sorry to be negative, but it would be a lot of effort to create enough prefabs to make even a single mission from, and the results are likely to be fairly mundane looking (they would have to be to fit the modular design principles).
  6. When he was carrying the boot around I was expecting him to stash the orb inside the boot to block the light. Not sure if that would even work but would be a cool feature, will try it next time I'm in the tower.
  7. On QL? nocturne, actually n0cturn3 (all the cool kids were using numbers in their names ). I only had a throwaway tribes account, might give it another go at some point.
  8. How will he adjust to having no shotgun? Prepare to be impressed:
  9. Looks like a City Watch Station, nice! Love the glass ceiling <3
  10. Hehe, guess we didn't have to wait for you to get old :-) I do agree that far too many games today are designed like theme parks where you could just sit back and enjoy the whole experience without much thought, that way you'll never miss all the cool things developers have created :-/ I'll hold off any opinions on Dishonoured until I get to play it (after a computer upgrade), but it does look pretty good from what little I've seen.
  11. I always found the following line a little disturbing: "Flames surround you, flames, nothing but flames burning your flesh!" Shivers I like the idea that the revenants are tormented because they're builders who have been denied the promise of whatever afterlife they'd been working towards their whole lives. I think this is something that wasn't really done with the original Haunts, maybe the revenants could have dialogue that explores this more.
  12. I played it for a couple weeks, but although it's really easy and fun to begin with, I was quickly moved from the noob tier into game servers with long time tribe players (I assume) who I had no chance against. I've instead been playing Quake Live a lot as the tier system (although far from perfect) at least gives a smoother progression to higher tiers.
  13. I'll give it a go, gives me a good excuse to replay those missions again
  14. Here's an idea. All rooftop only missions should take place in the flooded district. If you fall to street level, you DROWN! Seriously though I don't think it's that big a deal whichever way you deal with it. If the streets are off limits it should be pointed out in the briefing and (preferably) also as an objective. Having the player die when they reach the street is ok (I'm pretty sure LOTP had this, I was never able to walk the streets in that mission).
  15. I could give you a taste of what it's like, I live on the isle of man. It's pretty much the same as regular Halloween, but the children sing a Hop tu Naa song when accosting home owners for sweets. It's quite cute, and only slightly diminishes the creepy atmosphere of Halloween I used to live in Castletown where there's an old building called the witches mill, and the quiet winter night accompanying Halloween is pretty spooky, especially when there's a full moon and a slight breeze to rustle dead leaves on trees.
  16. Nice! I especially like the choice of last song.
  17. I had this when I was in windowed mode, but full screen worked fine. I needed windowed to work and managed to get rid of the black screen by disabling post processing in the advanced video options. Don't know if either of you are running windowed but it's worth a try disabling post processing. Edit: re-read the earlier posts and realised it affected the GUI not just in game as in my case. Ignore my advice, PP shouldnt affect the main menu at all.
  18. I wouldn't argue that voting doesn't achieve anything, but in reality you're given only two options and are left to choose what you decide to be the lesser of two evils. The decision of which candidates will be represented is increasingly falling to big money, so by the time it comes to vote you're struggling to find those few (largely inconsequential) issues that differentiate the candidates in your mind, but the issues that really define those candidates might be, for example, which has a stance that is more amenable to big oil or big pharma. See this news item for some interesting developments since the last US election: http://slog.thestranger.com/slog/archives/2010/01/22/yesterdays-supreme-court-ruling-that-corporations-have-more-first-amendment-rights-than-citizens
  19. Don't forget that most of the world probably doesn't know that much about Romney and that could skew that study in favour of Obama since familiarity with candidates will have some influence (not saying that if Romney were better known it would improve his chances!). My personal opinion is that in general it's often irrelevant who the president is, corporate interests and lobbyists are the ones who really shape policy for the most part. The division of the house only serves to slow down or speed up policies that are inevitable based on forces outside of government.
  20. I finished this after a 4 hour (hey, I like the creep button) play through on expert, just missing out on 3 gold pieces. Excellent attention to detail such as the snow covered exterior, dirt decals and good design decisions (lock picking was the perfect difficulty for a mission of this size). I struggled for a little while to make progress because I mistook the church for the chapel, but after realising my mistake it was plain sailing to the beautiful ending. My only(!) criticism would have to do with the number of scrolls and other things cluttering up the inventory as others have said, but I can't really fault you for this. I did have a couple questions. Does the shift change have any gameplay implications beyond simply having AI move about, I.e. can you use this to your advantage somewhere? Also, there's a gateway at the bottom of the stairs in the church, is this accessible at all? All in all I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to attempting to ghost it next time, congrats grayman on a masterpiece!
  21. I think the sword clattering has always been there. The thump as they crumple to the ground is new though
  22. Brilliant! I'm going to try this every chance I get now
  23. If you followed the instructions then I assume the updater downloaded the mod, but it would have downloaded the latest version which won't work (the error is complaining about a missing macosx file because there isn't one in this release). If you're keen to try this before 1.08 is supported, I'll see if I can find a 1.06 or 1.07 version which works on Mac and you can download this instead of using the updater. Hopefully it can compress nicely so I can send you a Dropbox link or something, but it's probably going to be roughly a 2GB file.
  24. I was playing St Lucia and left the guards bedroom door open when the priest commented on how it shouldn't be left open. I know this isn't a new feature but I guess I've always been a diligent door closer as this was the first time I noticed it. The tone and timing of the comment seemed perfectly realistic, and caught me a little off guard. It's things like this that really help immerse you in the game world.
