  1. Congrats Grayman!! Looking forward to playing through the final outcome!!
  2. Does the slider not have anything to do with the distance an AI can spot you from?
  3. This is a great analogy. I've thought the same for a while. Now that games have become such a large and acceptable/accessible medium for entertainment, it's long past time for the industry to capitalize on it.
  4. Sorry I don't see any TDM missions on your video list!
  5. Post a walkthrough of a TDM mission!
  6. Well, I don't know the logistics of EFX, but I'd imagine that once it was written in the code, then the missions would all have to be tweaked for the areas/rooms to be responsive to the EFX. At least with the files, they can just be replaced in a directory and then they immediately work in all missions. I'm going to continue to do the files manually, and post links as along the way that I go. I want to see best possible result, and also even though selfish, I want the game to sound better for me! Hopefully in due time more people will see the benefit in approaching it this way.
  7. Hypo crossbow cuz the ravaged citizens couldn't get their Eve fix fast enough.
  8. Rich, sadly, batch processing only works with conversion, and not effects. Different sounds require different amounts of verb, so what sounds good on one may be too much or too little for another. Garrett, in regard to positioning, pretty much all the sounds I've come across so far from TDM are mono, so positioning is relative to the sound source, it doesn't affect the stereo field. Mr. Mike, I intend to do all the sounds but it's going to take some time. I will indeed post for all to download and apply if they wish to.
  9. Yes, Carmack doesn't work at Id any longer.
  10. Haha! I like Razorfist reviews/music.
  11. My thoughts: - The "Stealth gamin gin a steampunk" should be at top of news, not on left column, regardless of what the latest update is, it should always be on top. Eyes center focus to read and I think that is the most valuable thing for them to see first thing to get them an understanding of what TDM is. Also, a link following it for "Download The Dark Mod now" would be great to get them to download it right away - Columns seem a bit cluttered - The link to the FB should use their respective icons to stand out - The final font should still be the font that has been used - There's been a people posting about common installations problems (read only folder), maybe we should have a link on downloads page to wiki installation / FAQ or add trouble shooting page to wiki to answer some of these questions?
  12. Btw, this is the hooded revenant that I was talking about. I see that one has a red hood, but the other has the black hood but his face is still human. I was wondering if there is a skull face for the one that has a black hood. I couldn't find it in DR.
  13. Yes, both Bioshock 2 and Opposing Force/Blue Shift are great. I'm trying to say that if another studio besides EM handle DLC/sequel, maybe it will be closer to original Thief and not NuThief. I guess it wasn't that good of a comparison after all...
  14. Are you at liberty to disclose what was originally planned to be provided?
  15. If this game proves to be an abomination, I don't think that there will be a Thief 5, at least for many more moons... If it has enough success to warrant a sequel/expansion, perhaps it will be passed off to an independent studio, because it will not receive as much financial backing as if the game was overwhelmingly successful. Bioshock 2 was a great sequel, even if it is to Bioshock what Opposing Force is to Half Life. I guess that's not a great comparison because both Bioshock and Half Life were enormously successful, but I think you guys can understand what I'm getting at. This may prove for a Thief experience either closer to the originals, or another Thief experience that much farther away from the originals. EM has mentioned about their next project, which they hinted is another reboot of Eidos IP.
  16. Glad you guys are enjoying the thread. Now I'll have to wait to click on the spoiler tags and join the fun till after I finish the game!
  17. For everyone that is posting about the recent news of the ending of the game being online, as well as other pieces of the story, PLEASE don't post anything that's not in a spoiler tag, and can we PLEASE keep it within a certain thread (maybe this one?) so people who intend to play and want to be surprised (like me) don't accidentally read something? THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!
  18. I know the contest just asks for video of a mission, but I figure I speak for more than one of us when I say I hope you get it finished before the contest so the rest of us Taffers can enjoy it! Looking GREAT!!!!
  19. If I remember correctly, Doom 3 did have reverb built in, but it was only one type of reverb (the one that echoes good for military complex / metal buildings) because that was what most of the game of D3 was, so it was internally configured that way to save resources. Since TDM uses a broad range of environments, that programming just didn't work out, so the team opted for dry sounds till EAX/EFX was worked out corrrectly, and to this point there's been noone to complete the restructuring. I'm not a programmer, so don't take my word as final say, but this is the way I remembered it being explained.
  20. Engineering? Tracking, mixing, mastering? Good to see another sound guy! What kinds of music? My primary learning was audio engineering for music, not sound design for games, but I'm getting to exercise some audio chops doing new things with games, especially with TDM. What games have you helped doing sound on?
  21. Also, Springheel has mentioned that all original dry files will be kept on hand. So once EFX does makes it way in, that the sounds will have a back up so that there's no need to worry about anything like that. Planning ahead.
  22. Yes, for the majority of the sounds, I feel the same way about the dryness, and letting the EFX handle the processing. I agree some sounds should have verb, at least those which aren't necessarily human sounding. I'm also a sucker for the Thief atmosphere, which was achieved with verb on quite a bit of the raw sounds. Not everyone had EAX when Thief came out, but the audio design allowed for even people without it to get a very atmospheric touch with verb built into the assets. So for EAX users of Thief, we were indeed hearing double verbs. I had a Diamond Monster Sound card back then, A3D was great. I remember the difference when I first got it and was amazed! I just have no idea when this will actually happen. As Mortem said, it's been on the plate to achieve for a long time, but is a long way off. With the new code that was mentioned in another thread, it seems the tweaking of the BFG edition of DOOM got the EFX built in. I hope that this code can be implemented into TDM, and we can FINALLY have EFX. I'm taking this road because I just want to hear the sounds get a little more love from a dimensional perspective than they have. Of course I'd be thrilled if we got the EFX implemented in, not only would it be a great achievement, but it would save me from having to do thousands of sound effects of work. :-)
