  1. Dude, you shouldn't come near the Relic forums (Homeworld, Warhammer: Dawn of War), ever. As soon as someone there makes the idiotic mistake to openly ask for a pirated copy, this person gets banned, no exceptions. Rapishes, TDM itself already needs to tread lightly because of various legal dangers, so the last thing the mod team needs is someone asking for an illegal copy and thereby drawing unwanted attention. besides, look here: 4.49 $ plus shipping should be affordable, teenager or not.

    Thief 4

I dunno, man. Look at some of the most hyped games or movies out there that disappointed fans a lot. Of course everyone with access to mass media (like TV, magazines or websites) has the possibility to make an informed decision about buying or not buying a product. However, many many people just follow the hype and buy a product, without really thinking this though. I'm sure everyone of us has had that experience at least once in his/her life. Just look at Thief 3. I myself just bought the game, without listeing to the very critical reviews, simply because I was so happy that the third and final part of the series was out (and because of the screenshots, because real-time shadows ROCK!). And I was among the many many fans who were sorely disappointed. I won't make the same mistake with T4, but I absolutely see that many of the Thief fans out there will buy the game once it is out - regardless of the reviews.
  3. Yeah, this would be the safest way, unless you have some good documentation for your laptop. Or check the internet, like searching for your model and keywords like MXM or "replace graphics card".
  4. Generally, yes, but you could try to find out if your gc resides on a MXM module. There are rare cases where a gc in a laptop can be swapped.
  5. Are you playing on a laptop or HTPC of sorts? Why not buy a cheap graphics card frm ATI or Nvidia and have the game run flawlessly and much much faster? A 50 Dollar card should do the job.
  6. Yeah, you just have to switch AI Catalyst off. It is known to make problems with Doom 3.
  7. Note to self: Should learn to read and think before posting!
  8. Yeah, right now, if you've fouled up an FM and have forgotten to save at startup, you have be let an AI beat yourself to death. Not very pleasant, I think.
  9. The breakthrough with my gf was System Shock 2, I think. We didn't have a TV at that time (we do have one now, but we almost never watch it except for the Maya the Bee or Heidi cartoons), so this was our form of entertainment - and gosh was it horrifying when deep in the middle of the night, the outside completely dark and quiet, The Manyhood started speaking: "We are searching, we are searching!" Next step was then Dungeon Keeper 2, a game we still love to this day. It was there when the ground was laid for games like The Sims (that's exactly what you're looking for your wife, Niels!) and the Anno series. So, I do agree with ungoliant and aidakeeley that every non-gamer needs the right incentive to be hooked. And you really should try The Sims (or better: Sims 2, because now with Sims 3 out it should come cheaper). There is one downside, however: if you do manage to get her hooked, you might never again have any playtime on your computer. Addicts can be like that.

    Ruiner Mod

    Sounds interesting! Link please?
  11. Niels: Nah, aidakeeley ist just still pissed because I disagreed with him in that Off-Topic thread Bikerdude started. Anyway, my point here was completely non-serious and joking. Many many years ago I heard a story about the troubles a man got in some Arab country who jokingly agreed to sell his wife for a few camels. He had quite a hard time to make the authorities realize that this was in no way a legitimate transaction - or so the story goes. I don't know what to think of it, but once in a while I use it to joke around. So, my Arab friends, please don't be offended, I love ya all! As for you being a chauvinist, no, that's not how I see you. It's more that I think you have to tread carefully around your wife, something that I don't envy at all. I do know that it happens to be surprisingly often that couples live in such a way as you do, something that I was fortunate to avoid in my relationship (not that my gf didn't try it). P.S.: I should have written "some very rich and bored sheik", maybe that would have made the irony clearer.
  12. Well, I too ask my gf if she allows certain not totally necessary expenses, simply because she helps me put things into perspective. Say, I'd love to have that new AMD six-core CPU together with a fast SSD and the fastest RAM available for my rig. Of course, she wouldn't allow this, simply because the games on my computer run fast enough, but if I were a huge Crysis fan, I could imagine that she's allow the purchase - simply to stop me begging, I suppose. I guess the best way to handle these kinds of things is to discuss them and to find reasonable ways to make allowances, as long as they don't hurt. I like NH's approach a lot, even if it would not be possible in my family. Niels Bohr (?): To make an FM out of that idea would be indeed great. Totally politically incorrect, of course, but I don't think many Arabs/Muslims play TDM. Or do they?
  13. Dude, I gotta say, you're a real macho-man. And I thought my wife (gf, actually) can be headstrong. Well, if you ever by chance meet an Arab, ask him how many camels (or sheep, or donkeys, or goats) he would pay for a "beauuuutiful white woman, first class really, and all your friends will admire you, my muslim friend!". Then finish the deal, sell the camels/sheep/donkeys/goats and live a carefree life with the fastest gaming rig money can buy. Problem solved!
  14. Yeah, I remember how excited I was when I first heard of and watched the promo videos of Radiant AI, as it was/is called. Man, how awesome it would habe been... but the final product was horribly dumbed down. This was to a large part because, say, drug addicts with all their money spent went to their local drug dealer and killed him for his dope. Instead of finding ways to prevent that (say, by raising levels on when to do what), Radiant AI was severely limited in its abilities. A real pity...
  15. The one that Fidcal Serpentine is making? I'd really like it. To have it as a background texture (not a model) would cost no performance and provide a lot of immersion. I like the idea.
  16. Quick question: In the second mission, I got into the City Watch building. How do I get out? Please help! nbohr1more: What graphics card do you have again? Doesn't lowering screen resolution help a bit?
  17. Oh yes, just remembered Quake 1 and the rocket launcher. Man, that was a frag fest. I had so much fun with the zombies and the meat grinder sound they made when being blown up...
  18. Is the movement fixed, that is, do the player characters (iirc it was four of them, Barbarian, Dwarf, some girl and... a hunter?) move more graceful now, or does this still remain unfixed?
  19. @SneaksieDave: You know, back in the days the visual quality had stunned me too. BUT: I totally hated the movement controls (I remember that I couldn't get a simple side-step to work), AND: the player characters moved as it they had just shi... filled their pants. As much as I liked the technology, but that was too much for me. There were other games at the time that allowed for much more graceful movement.
  20. I guess they are the respective web crawlers/spiders/bots for those search engines.
  21. "Chalice of Kings" by Fidcal and at least one other FM had the background picture of a street with several houses. You see it though one of the windows, iirc. So, if someone would build those landmarks mentioned above, they could be screen-shot as a backgound texture and used in newer FMs. This way, the FM's size won't increase, and the feeling of immersion ("Hey, so there is that Church!", and "That's the tower from that FM I played last month!") would be greatly increased.
  22. Maybe this here helps a bit more: it's a city view of Meissen, a town I live not far from. Please note especially the bridge and the big church, and the streets of Meißen resemble almost exactly the photos Melan posted. I do agree. However, using the material that already exists (in terms of the preliminary Bridgeport map and the places in the released FMs) and to combine them into one source (be it a Wiki entry or a map) is already possible. Anyway, this will be a mammoth task, so honestly I don't see anyone step forward and be the first one to attempt it.
  23. And! and! and! all the female characters need to have big ti... boo... chests and have to look as AWEsome as that chick from Van Helsing too! Yeah, that'd ROCK LOL FTW!!!111 But actually, I have had the exact same thought myself. My thinking was to take the city map of a medieval German city and to build a map of Bridgeport around it. As some of you will know, the higher ups had to take several things into consideration when planning the layout of a city. The streets ad to be layed out in such a way that in case of an attack, defending them was easier. Also, they had to be wide enough to allow fire wagons to pass though in case of fires, etc. Here are links to the city maps of Freiberg and Ulm. I'm sure that with a little more time spent on the Wikipedia, one could come up with some very useful city maps that'd help in creating a convincing Bridgeport. The same goes for the timeline. I also had the thought to collect all the info given in the individual FMs and to seek the community's support to create the past, recent and future history of Bridgeport, where it is made easier to establish links between different FMs from different authors. Say, due to in The Sons of Baltona made by Carnage the guards in Living Expenses made by Sonosuke are much more alert. Or vice versa. Or something like that. The reason why I had dropped that idea is that this would be a huge task, and I'm already swamped as it is. So pigtailsboy, if you are into it, go on! And while you're at it, you could create a Wiki page for every mission up to date, listing the contents and naming the main protagonists of the respective story.
  24. The article is in issue 06/10 starting on page 116, "Tiefenbehandlung". If you can't get it for free on the heise.de website, I can send you scans of the article. It's 6 pages long.
