    Ruiner Mod

Yes, I don't know how much stake he had in the mod but I know he helped them with their HDR
  2. That might work if accompanied by some wispy specular maps... hmm...

    Ruiner Mod

Today is the day ? ? ? (The best things come to those who wait?) Hope is increasing, the Read Me for the mod has been posted... Edit: They are awaiting Moddb's article authorization (1 to 2 days...) ...hope they posted a couple of days ago (or Moddb admins wake-up) ...
  4. LOL, that is all logical thinking. I had my marketing hat on too tight and was thinking of the appeal of things that are "hidden" or "beta" (like how popular all of Google's so-called "beta" products are...). "Closemouthed Shadows" is another pseudo-unofficial treat for TDM fans at the site that's kinda like that... Just something to make casual visitors feel like they have a secret special thing. Mostly just bling value...
  5. Hrmm... I will need to test this one but... what say you TDM team folk? Should this and Fidcal's key brightener be uploaded to the Moddb Addons section as unofficial addons?
  6. I'm pretty sure I found out about this one on moddb. It was either that or a slashdot story about some game that had a forum post with a link to the mod's early site. All I remember is that there was this site that seemed to only have concept art but I was excited about the possibility of it. It would be cool if there was an archive of the site so I could figure out when and what I saw back then (so fuzzy)... I couldn't get the original "Thief's Den" demo to install for some reason (probably missing the Devil.DLL) but when Saint Lucia hit I was thrilled. Then I had a lapse in PC gaming and returned to find that 1.01 was released with several FM's!
  7. Correct, the pk4's are loaded alphabetically. You may also need to create a material definition for the cross-hair texture you intend to use...
  8. It's slow to render but AluminumHastes screens have been posted at Moddb http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-dark-mod/images
  9. Don't quit this one Komag! (I'll bet at least one other mapper would like to help this along...)
  10. Sotha's Interview at Moddb has been released: http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-dark-mod/features/sotha-interview (As it again has not had any effect on the "update status" I have created another follow-up "News" article so that people will actually know this was posted... They should authorize that article soon... )
  11. The decision about hosting all files at Moddb is clear as mud I agree that we should do it. If they are foolish enough to provide all that content hosting for free then why not? (Queue Moddb's upcoming devolution into a poor-man's me-too Steam platform "Desura" ...don't mind my pessimism... ). We just need enough face time for a bunch of mod coders. animators, etc, to stumble into our mod and become curious about joining... If they are serious, they will seek out the internal site. They need to know we exist first and foremost.
  12. My vote is in! I have plans to keep the eyeballs on our moddb presence. (Where is Blackheart Manor when you need it ? )
  13. Well, perhaps they wont vote for some silly pop-culture meme like they did last year. It can't be that thrilling to spoil the vote twice can it? (Maybe we can include pirate voices and the techno-remix of Lazy Town's "I am a Pirate" into the mod and have all of 4chan voting like crazy?) I am going to get to work on an article that will inform the moddb audience how much more work Thief style game-play is to create than your typical zombie co-op mod. (It will probably be ignored, ...where are them purty pictures ).
  14. It looks like you have some extra PK4's in your base directory D:\Games\DooM3\base\zpak003. pk4 (5 files) D:\Games\DooM3\base\zpak002. pk4 (8 files) D:\Games\DooM3\base\zpak001. pk4 (70 files) D:\Games\DooM3\base\zpak000. pk4 (950 files) D:\Games\DooM3\base\Tested. pk4 (1619 files) D:\Games\DooM3\base\doomep4. pk4 (I don't think this one is native either... not at home to check ?)
  15. Thanks again ungoliant. Tels cannot dampen my spirits though, his work is the reason I write ...
  16. It's my running joke. Winter had stated that he was going to have his vertical contest map done in September. I have not seen him at the forums since then so his mostly finished map is in question. If he is expanding the project then that's great but I have been doing a little gentle teasing in the hopes that he would offer any news of his progress. I'm sure we'd all understand if the news is "I've been too busy and haven't touched the map since August" but it would be nice to know one way or the other (or just have him visit the forums again).
  17. Now that I think of it, there are probably a bunch of poor employees like myself who browse Moddb at work but can't see youtube because their workplace filter is smart enough to know about youtube but not Moddb... I think the files would be better because we can then reach the youtube restricted audience (those lazy bastards ).
  18. I know... I was just fooling myself ... It's karma though because I can't tell you how many times I've visited a mod profile and started to read the news then thought "Wow, this is pretty crappy. I don't care of about these zombie shooting protagonists' back stories nor do I care that they have increase the ammo strength for guns x, y, and z... Time to look at pictures" @lowenz ... Thanks! I have an idea about how these should be added that'll be the most effective...
  19. It's funny you guys are mentioning the ethics of "saving". I just read a Hexen Mod review where the poster griped that "modern gamers" shouldn't have to spam the quick-save button but instead the game should keep saving at every fraction of progress. Given the complexity of getting a game-save system right in the Doom 3 SDK, that was a lot of gall for someone to spit on a 6 year project over their own laziness and inability to choose wise save points. I try not to save very much as it just feels wrong to someone who spent his youth replaying levels in 8 bit arcade and console games. Having to play the level again was your punishment for not doing well. The best games were so much fun that you didn't mind the redundancy.
  20. I can edit Biker's uploads to associate them with The Dark Mod profile. I'm not sure it'll change the "update status" for the mod (it'll probably still say updated such and such ago... but I'll give it a try.) (Edit: I have found out the hard way that editing an upload requires you to re-upload... sorry Biker) I think those Hexen Mod folk create a redundant "News" item for everything else they update on their profile. That's a little crass for really small changes though... (other mods are as bad or worse though). @ungoliant: Thanks! I'm glad to be proven wrong and see that folks are actually reading rather than just ogling pretty pics and downloads (now I've really got to watch my grammar). 2ND EDIT: Now the download is where it belongs... ? (weird)
  21. Thanks for the update Fidcal... (goes to get napkin to wipe drool off keyboard)...
