  1. I have the same problem too, and I also have a Radeon card. On Linux, however, instead of a black screen, it produces a bunch of colored artifacts obstructing view on the menu. I'll try both test versions and see the results1000
  2. As far as I remember, TDM 2.09 requires OpenGL 3.3 to start. So either your OpenGL does not fit the requirement, or (as I guessed above) it has separate GL versions for core and deprecated profile. Perhaps version in core profile is newer than 3.3, but the version in deprecated profile is only 3.1 By the way, do you also have the problem with black screen in main menu and sound playing?
  3. I only have the default missions installed, the menu isn't visible at all. just a black screen with sound.
  4. @duzenkoTwo problems, first I did have my folders named darkmod in succession so I renamed to tdm and darkmod respectively. But the asset issue was fixed cause I forgot to run the flippin launcher... LOL So the engine boots up however... @stgatilovThe first time running, it decompressed textures but the game wouldn't start. Launched a second time and I get a fullscreen window, but it hangs on a black screen, last item in terminal is "Async thread started". When I run "thedarkmod.custom.debug" I get an ELF Exec error like it's compiled for wrong architecture, however a 'file' shows it is an aarch64 ARM executable. My terminal output below: EDIT: I noticed below the line "Unknown command '#'", I do know one project I was compiling on required me to modify a C file and change the # hashtags to // double forward slashes as ARM assembly uses // for comments. *Shrug* wooty@wootylx2k-ubn:~/build/tdm/darkmod$ ./thedarkmod.custom TDM 2.10/64 #9574 (1435:9574M) linux-aarch64 Aug 23 2021 01:34:57 failed parsing /proc/cpuinfo measured CPU frequency: 1000.1 MHz 1000 MHz unsupported CPU found interface lo - loopback found interface enx00249b1e62ae - 151.151.88.220/255.255.0.0 found interface virbr0 - 192.168.122.1/255.255.255.0 Found Unsupported CPU, features: TDM using Generic for SIMD processing. 6. Hi everyone! Ok, I'm a great fan of Thief series that has been apart for years from the fans community... until now. Days ago I found the DDFix mod, then the HD Mod, and now this! Such a GORGEOUS mod guys, I have seen the demos! I can't wait to play it! Ok, but not that fast. After a hard time with the downloading (I live in the mountains and I connect to internet with a modem service in which I pay for every Mb downloaded), the game won't start. I get first a white screen when loading, and then a big black screen with beautiful and mysterious music (just to grow up my pain ). If I move the mouse cursor, I hear the sounds of the cursor being over the menu elements and I see some grey empty squares, without text. My computer equipement: - Toshiba Satellite (notebook), Intel DualCore T6500 2.10 Ghz processor, 3 Gb RAM - Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bits (Spanish). - External monitor Sony Bravia Smart TV (1920 x 1080 maximum). - Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Graphics GMA 4500MHD (128 Mb dedicated memory video). I have already search for this problem, and the only references to it which I have found involve Linux OS. The description of the bug is exactly the same, but the solutions are not applied to me. The only coincidence that I have noticed is that also involve an Intel Graphic card. I have tried also some editions of the file Darkmod.cfg and to replace the file tdm_base01.pk4 with another one patched for some Intel problem, but withou success. I needyour help guys, I'm about to break in tears. I feel I have all to play this game, but I don't have the knowledge to fix it by myself. Thanks forehand... Elojah.

  8. Wow, this is impressive I think crash on shader compilation is like getting internal compiler error from ordinary C++ compiler. Except that GLSL compiler is embedded, so consequences for crashing are much worse. Luckily, the problem can be worked around by simply removing the manylight shader. I think the black screen issue will return back to you after that By the way, do you want to go into the quest of reporting the issue to AMD? I recall I did it with the bug that texture fetches in global variable initializers didn't work, and got response like "upgrade GLSL version". At least that was response from someone from AMD, as far as I understood. Maybe a crash will get more attention. Also, it is very easy to debug if you attach a full crash dump...
  9. Hello! I can compile and run 2.07hotfix from SVN. I tried compiling the SVN trunk, using exactly the same method. It doesn't work, though - I get a blank screen and nothing else, not even audio. Here's the output. Note there's some binary junk in it. DarkMod.cfg: The suggestions at http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/19919-problem-with-207-some-level-unplayable/?p=435907 didn't help.
  10. @id3839315 says the fourth script shows black screen, just like the first two. So the final decision is that "r_glCoreProfile 0" works fine, but "r_glCoreProfile 2" gives black screen. This may be some driver problem, e.g. some of the GL features previously hidden behind extension is not enabled by the problematic AMD driver under GL 3.3, while it should according to the specs. It is not just some function, because calling missing function would give immediate crash. Most likely some constant of mode. I think I have already ruled out: ARB_fence_sync ARB_buffer_storage (persistent mapping) ARB_bindless_texture (not used in menu anyway) ARB_draw_indirect (multi draw indirect --- not used in menu too) ARB_vertex_attrib_binding What else it can be? Maybe glDrawElementsBaseVertex (it was previously behind extension), maybe UBOs --- who knows. What can help here: Use deprecated profile --- I think this will serve as workaround. Request greater OpenGL version (e.g. 4.1 instead of 3.3) --- maybe it would help Hope that driver update would fix it.
  11. @Jedi_Wannabe, could you please check something about this issue? As written above, the problem depends on r_glCoreProfile cvar, which must be set in darkmod.cfg before starting TDM. We know that "r_glCoreProfile 2" does not work for you, but "r_glCoreProfile 0" does work. Does "r_glCoreProfile 1" work for you? Or you get black screen?
  12. Using my normal config settings, which worked fine a couple months ago, I'm now getting a nearly dark screen when starting a mission with SVN assets/code. I built the Windows binaries from the current SVN source, so it's up-to-date. The presentation is as if there is no lighting from in-game lights, and ambient is very very low. Anyone else seeing this? SVN is supposed to be kept bug-free, so that folks can work with the latest assets and code. If this isn't already being worked on, could the devs pls take a look at it and bring SVN back to expectations? Thanks.
  13. Yesterday I installed 'The Dark Mod' version 2.05 on my computer. ('tdm_update.linux' worked great, but took FOREVER. The resultant 'thedarkmod.x86' file is 6.5 MB in size.) My issues: When starting the program (./thedarkmod.x86), I get great audio, but only a black screen (window). When running on full desktop mode (not in a window), both monitors go black.I can hear clicking when I move the (invisible) mouse pointer within the black screen. Unfortunately, the only way I found to get things back to 'normal' is to do a 'CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE', since I cannot get the mouse pointer to my desktop (when running in window mode).I cannot see what errors I may have gotten when launching from the command line, because of having to re-start my session (see line above). My computer system: OS: Linux Mint 17.3 (64 bit) CPU: Intel Core i7-3610QM @ 2.30 GHz x 4 System RAM: 8 GB Video Controller: Intel 3rd Gen Core processor Video Card: AMD / ATI Heathrow PRO [Radeon HD 7850M/8850M] Video RAM Available: 2048 MB Displays: Laptop [1920 x 1080 (16:9)], Standalone monitor [1920 x 1080 (16:9)] Anyway, from searching the forum for possible things to do to get video, I changed the following lines in my Darkmod.cfg file: seta com_videoRam "2048" seta r_aspectRatio "1" seta r_fullscreen "0" seta r_customHeight "900" seta r_customWidth "1600" seta r_mode "-1" seta sys_videoRam "0" Still, I get the black screen (window). My Darkmod.log shows: Any thoughts on how to actually 'see' what is hiding inside the black screen (or window)?
  14. If it were not compatible, you should be getting a black screen because nothing could be rendered without textures. But in practice, it does render, just with confused texture associations. It looks and feels very much like a bug, but unfortunately I don't (yet) have access to an AMD device myself, so it' very hard to debug...
  15. Addendum: if image_usePrecompressedTextures "0" -> BLACK SCREEN (game is working)
  16. I am unable to get TDM to run. I installed TDM using The Dark Mod Updater v0.66 into the C:\darkmod directory. When executing the TheDarkMod.exe application, the screen goes black, my monitor indicates that there is a 'HDMI' cable connection and then briefly brings up the monitor menu buttons overlay for a few seconds. After which, the screen is completely black. At this point, neither Control-Alt-Delete nor Alt-Control-Tilde work, the computer is frozen, and the computer requires a hard power down and reboot. A second reinstall of TDM shows the same results and behavior. I have attached a .txt file of the TDM Update Log Window. My system configuration is: ASUS Desktop PC CM6850 Series Intel Core i7-2600 CPU, 3.4 GHz 8 GB RAM Windows 10 Home, 64 Bit NVIDIA GeForce GT 530 (Driver Date:5/17/2017) 6134 MB Total Available Graphics Memory Any help on getting TDM running would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! TDM Update Log Window.txt
  17. I'm having a weird issue where I get a black screen whenever I click on objectives before jumping into my mission. I'm not sure what's causing this, and can't find anything on the wiki/forums on this glitch. Any help is appreciated.
  18. Same problem (black screen on v2.09), same solution (setting r_glCoreProfile "0"). System specs:
  19. _apitrace_record3.cmd works, but 1 and 2 result in the black screen.
  20. Ok, I'll try to get some more information, but that would need more complicated steps from you. 1) Run tdm_installer without any custom checks, and make sure it installs release209 properly. Do not use test/dev versions for this! 2) Delete "currentfm.txt" file in TDM installation directory (if it exists). 3) Download apitrace from this link. It is a 7z archive with a folder inside. Unpack the contents of the folder into "C:\apitrace". Make sure that path "C:\apitrace\bin\apitrace.exe" indeed points to the executable! 4) Download attached zip file. Unpack its contents into the root of your TDM installation directory. Make sure you see files like "_apitrace_record1.cmd" in the same directory where you see "TheDarkModx64.exe". 5) Action time Run "_apitrace_record1.cmd". It will start TDM game, and after a bit of time you will hear music. Now press Ctrl+Alt+Tilde (~) to open console. Type "condump 1" and hit Enter. Then exit game by pressing Alt+F4. Note that you'll have to do it blind, so verify that both "1.txt" and "res1.trace" have been created in TDM directory. 6) Repeat point 5, but now run "_apitrace_record2.cmd" and execute "condump 2". 7) Repeat point 5, but now run "_apitrace_record3.cmd" and execute "condump 3". 8|) Take files "1.txt", "2.txt", "3.txt", "res1.trace", "res2.trace", "res3.trace" in TDM installation directory, and pack them all into 7z/zip archive. Upload the archive somewhere and share it for download. P.S. And if you start seeing the menu instead of black screen in any of the runs, of course report it 209_blackmenu_apitrace.zip
  21. test15973-8793 and test15973-8795 both result in the black screen no matter if it's seta r_useNewBackend "1" or seta r_useNewBackend "0".
  22. I have a Radeon HD 6450 graphics card. test15973-8778 works but test15973-8797 starts with the black screen.
  23. @Jedi_Wannabe, "dev15976-8815" is the very first dev build. Are you sure 'dev15976-8815' gives you black screen but release208 works properly? I hope you do not restore config file when switching versions?
  24. Hello all, I am trying to compile and play The Dark Mod under my platform (Gentoo Linux). After patching the patchable to make it compile, it turns out that no rendering is shown on screen at all: black screen (with resolution change), mouse is responsive and I can hear the reaction of the GUI to its movement (clicks and all); also the background music (soothing, charming, beautiful... but that you know already) cuddles my ears. I started the bisection of the code from version 2.05 (I think... it was r6753) to r7203. It took me a while (none of the commits compiles out of the box, and different ones require different patches), and in the end I found that r6834 works for me (at least the menu screen!), while r6835 does not any more (as above). I have the output to screen of two runs. In thedarkmod-r6834.txt, I started it with no arguments, and then quit. In thedarkmod-r6835.txt, I started it with no arguments, then I switched to a text console and killed it (because I could not see the GUI to quit). The only files that changed between the two runs are thedarkmod.x86, gamex86.so and tdm_game02.pk4. Any suggestion for me to have this work?
  25. Something I've changed in my map today caused it to show nothing but a black screen after it loads. I can see my lightgem and hear sound speakers that are near the starting position, but no music, no equipment, no movement, no crouching. Things I've changed: - Reworked the script file - Added a few nodrawsolid brushes and trigger entities, moved some items around - Deleted some patches My guess is the script is to blame, but even if I delete the script it loads black. I've seen this happen before in my test map that I used to test my scripts, there it got solved by dmapping again, but I've dmapped twice now for no gain. There's no leak. Has this happened to someone before maybe? [solved] Figured out the dmap wasn't updating the .cm file, only the .proc file. I've deleted the outdated .cm and ran dmap again, now it works.
