  1. Nice work for just starting man. And thanks for the input , but i better remove the shot seems how this isnt really the place to post anything other than what would pertain to Dark Mod heh
  2. Ah , that dosnt seem to work. heh when I click on the link "Dark Mod Teaser Trailer", all I see is a white page with a red box in it that says : file not found - The requested URL was not found on this server. From the given link : http://www.timgormley.ca/darkmodteaser.avi
  3. it was great in the first time but now its even better with the thief in the foreground...fantastic:)dark:) thiefy:)
  4. dear oDDity I can see that...YOu are fan of peaceful music ..You are having a true artist heart and mind...There are so lovely lieds from schubert im sure you know them..He was a very good fella.. ..Well As you can see im a fan of magnifico orchestral works. Especially late romantic era..After Wagner shortly For me he is milestone..before and after wagner.... (By the way im sure you listened alread felix bartholdy Mendelhsonn's 4th (italian) symphony.Although i dont like italian classical music..His understanding is awesome..I wrote this because MENDELSHONN is the guy between big orchestra works and BACH..Before him Bach was little bit under the shadow..HE really promoted BACH endless cycles...If you didnt listen it I can upload to FTP..He is really using whole orchestra just like two instruments...Amazingly good variations..Breathtaking finale.... BUt please give a try to Jean Sibelius (the Finnish composer) 2th symphony. Amazing amazing stuff... and Anton Bruckner's 8th symphony...Also out of this planet.. And i aint Polish Im a complex hybrid product.. BEST "are we one ofthe most intellectual MOD team or what ? " We have classical music fans, metal fans..(he knows himself) script writers..inspiring artists.....man what a TEAM...I think we should make a documentary about the team..and a book...and a classical concert..a tv discussion program..a music video.. "ladies and gentleman..nobles....welcome to second annual the DARK MOD meeting..We'd like to thank you....you all for coming from High societies from all around the world....This year we will not steal anything from you at least in first day...so you NOBLES enjoy your wealth....for one more day....."
  5. a bit hard to explain...it's a photoshop filter and generates normalmaps based on the colour of your diffusemap. so for example the dark parts are the low parts of the normalmap and the brighter parts are the higher parts (or just the otherway round - you can change that with the "invert x" and "invert y" - check boxes.) one general tip: you should decrease the contrast of your texture before using the normalmap filter - other wise your normalmap will be very very rough the rest is trial and error - it'll take a while but you'll learn it.
  6. Okay, I'm working on this picture again Don't send anything out to the public yet. I'm putting the thief back in the foreground. After I'm done, I'll let you guys decide which version you like better for distribution. It's 5pm here. I should have it done in an hour or two. He'll be a dark silhouette, maybe some subtle higlights, so I'm not sure if you'll see him very well, but alas Might be better to have something (the thief) than nothing (no thief).
  7. Sweet, those are really nice looking! Did you see my answer to your question about the rugs I mentioned? I was just talking about something very understated, plain - something that easily tiles without looking repeating, like those new 06a-06d wallpapers. Something like those for the floor in however many colors are possible would be extreeeemely useful! While I'm making suggestions/requests - I've been building wooden stuff (stair railings, steps, specifically) and a good, no features, wood grain would be fantastic in dark and light. Do we have anything like that? I've been using the texture mansion_wall_trim03_d.tga, but to hide the detailing, I've had to stretch it a lot and it gets really washed out looking, so I've been itching for an alternative.

    What's Included?

Hi, great to see a Thief mod using an advanced engine with great lighting. My questions are along the lines of what will be included that was not in Thief Deadly Shadows, meaning will the Dark Mod have: Rope Arrows Sword for Garrett Speed Potions Gas Mines Also, how will lockpicking be done? Personally I liked TDS's way but without the visual tumbler help. How will item selection work? Will it be like in TDS with the gears, or more traditional?
  9. I'll probably get laughed at and flamed for this question, but I just can't help myself. I see that the team is honoring the Thief legacy by trying to adhere to the farmiliar (something TDS did only marginally), but are willing to branch out into new territory; my question then pertains to the new territory, specifically movement: Will there be implementation of, either by design or by the option to include it in our own mods, the ability to go prone. Something that always bothered me about System Shock 2* was the loss of the ability to go prone al la System Shock 1. Yes, Yes, I know. Our Dark Mod protagonist is a thief, not a Special Forces Operative. But, besides the fact that I just love options, I don't see it being to much of break in the immersion to have our little cat burgler hit the deck, and shimmey politely beneath a nearby table or anything crawl-underable. Of course, my little monologue is meaningless (on so many levels) if it's not even possible. Either way, much respect to the DM crew for current and future work well done. *(Being that SS2 was built using the same engine our beloved Thief was created, I felt the reference somewhat relevant) HU
  10. Thanks, I'm picking away at the final version as we speak. Once I get that off my plate I'll be able to put my full energy behind the Dark Mod. I hate leaving things unfinished. As for your questions. I'll answer what I can without crossing any lines. Here we go.... - Is wall flattening included? Not as of this writing. - Is there a 3rd person view? Third person is not supported. - How big will the mod game be? The mod is not going to be like a traditional Mod. We are releasing an Editing Toolset to the Fan Community first. This will allow them to begin producing Thief Style missions with plenty variety and style to choose from. Essentially, you get to make a Thief game In Thine Own Image! We will include a few example missions in this release to help explain the documentation. At a later date you should see either a campaign or series of stand alone missions from us. - Will you have a central hub for missions, like the city in TDS? Since we will be releasing a toolset initially this will likely not be the case. - Are there more movement speeds beyond Run, Walk, Creep? Too early to say yet really. We do want to explore other options as we're not bound by Thief rules, but at the same time we want to retain a certain familiarity. - What equipment from TDS will be included/not included? You will see the basic toolset or variations of it...plus a few surprises.
  11. That's where I found out about this mod. The Dark Mod, the Hell on Earth Mod, and the Jedi Mod look to be the biggest conversions forthcoming. Looking forward to all of them
  12. IMHO it almost has the same shape as this one... anyway here a screenshot of a T2 barrel - they are even a bit higher than mine: http://www.dark-project.com/BlackThief/t2_barrel.jpg
  13. maybe it'd be better to make it more lowpoly and model the top. this way the texture could stay the same, but the top would look more realistic. eventhough T3 is rather ugly (actually I was really surprised HOW ugly T3 is, when I took that screenshot some minutes ago) their barrels have a modeled top, but don't have so much sides. http://www.dark-project.com/BlackThief/thief3_barrel.jpg so Atti can u plze make the shape like the T3 barrel and reduce the number of sides ?
  14. Ok, if the gem is a sperarate object and pefectly spherical, and is the only thing in the 16 bitmaps then it will work. SOp the bitmaps will just consist of 16 spheres for dark to bright. Everything else has to be part of the 3d model, and we'd want to keep that 3d model as llw poly as possible. This one is 50 triangles, though it doesn't exactly look uber. This one is pretty drab looking just for testing. We can use normal and spec maps for HUD items, right?

    Musician Here

Great! thanks for having me, I look forward to adding music to the Dark Mod. The challenge of creating ambient music that enchances a level while being unobtrusive is a unique one and I'm enjoying it.
  16. Hi Al3xand3r, I'd be happy to give you some information, but I'll need you to be more specific first. Which newspost are you referring to? We have many different websites carrying news about The Dark Mod.

    Plate

Ok as I mentioned in the Mansion Model Reuqest thread I'm working on the model for a plate. However I'm not sure what's the best way to do that. Here's a screen with the model I did: http://www.dark-project.com/BlackThief/plate1.jpg on the right part you can see the wireframe - I built it with 2 cylinders with 16 vertics (--> model now has 128 triangles). so to the experienced modellers out here: is this ok ? or is there a better way ? BTW the skin is mirrored - I thought we could safe some graphics memory this way
  18. Here's the book I'm currently working on: and here first progress in UV-mapping it http://www.dark-project.com/BlackThief/book2.jpg still have to tweak the texture a bit (if you take a look at the top view, you can easily see that the back and the top don't fit together properly...) and finish UV-mapping.
  19. Thanks for dropping in Nethawk. Feel free to spread the word about Dark Mod. The taffers we can reach out there, the longer Thief Style gaming shall live.
  20. I personally found the fact that you couldn't blackjack a guard with his sword drawn in T3 annoying, and I don't think I was alone in that opinion. It was done right in T1&2 - as long as he doesn't know you're there, you should be able to jack him. (circle-strafe-in-dark bug not included)
  21. Yeah, I suggested earlier that a guard's acuity (visual, auditory, etc) should increase with each state of alertness. So a shadow may be dark enough to hide you from the sight of relaxed guards, but if they start getting alerted, they'll be more likely to spot you. That way, even if he puts his sword away and returns to his route, it isn't business as usual. He will be harder to get past. This gives even non-ghosters a reason not to be spotted.

    Burrick Wip

heh..just imgine you sneak into a totally dark room, light a torch because you want to search for loot, and you suddenly notice that thing on the wall:D
  23. With the Imperium and now Thief 2X in Beta, it feels like the Dark Engine is gearing up for a graceful last hurrah. It's going to show us all what it can do.
  24. I was just woindering how they can get away with using THief elements in their game? So, as long as you make a game using the Dark engine it's ok to do antything you like, but if you use another engine to make FMs then it's illegal? Has anyone actually contacted Eidos and asked them about this, or are we just assuming they wouldn't allow it? If they said it was ok, would you guys actully want to start using Thief names and laces?
  25. Just in case you've been visiting and wondered what was going on with the forum colours, we're doing a little bit of maintenance here at The Dark Mod. When we're done, the forum will look much more thiefy, but in the meantime, things may be a little strange. Please do not adjust your set.
