  1. This ties a bit into the thread about going standalone: I just stumbled again over this page: http://opengameart.org/ The do have quite a bit of content that might be usable for us. However, our art assets are under a compatible license. So wouldn't it make equal sense to "donate" all our textures etc to them?
  2. I am a sucker for beautiful 2d computer graphics and that is the sole reason why I occasionally read a comic. (Yes, I am actually a little ashamed to admit that ) Recently I was wondering whether this level of quality can also be met in animated movies or TV-shows, so I did some research. I watched some episodes of "Legend of Korra" and the movie Animatrix. Both had some really cool artworks occasionally, but I would like more. Does anyone of you have any recommendations? I am open to almost anything really... I should mention that Legend of Korra basically boils down to a kids'-show, but it had a nice steam-punky feel to it, much like Dishonored, and some really beautiful vistas and special effects. Also this show combines 2d- and 3d-art to huge degree. If you want, you can also recommend graphic novels etc.
  3. I can't login to Steam forums. Please visit the Thief release threads and mention TDM Thanks!

I'm using the CD with TG, T2 and T3 on it. Darkloader doesn't like it. I can't get TG FMs to work

  6. Hi taffers, My spare time is pretty limited yet think I can help with background illustrations, concepts and stuff like that. Sorry, I'm not very good nor have the time for textures or interface design. Here are some of my Thief related artworks:
  7. I used to be a regular fan of The History Channel's programming. Their simplified historical illustrations were fun to watch and drove my curiosity for more factual insights about history. Much like MTV, it appears that someone "up top" decided that "The History Channel" was too important a brand to waste on low-rated "History" programming and now it's; Pawn Shops Conspiracies Prophecies Ice Road Truckin' Antique collecting Aliens Nostradamus Bayou reality shows Outrageous Hypothetical Apocalypse Scenario shown in CGI Is the decline of The History Channel part of a self-fulfilling prophecy of western decline imagined by some poorly paid CGI animator? Only you can decide.
  8. I miss the brown borders dividing up the sub forums. This great big block of grey looks ugly.

  9. Yes, you are still viewing The Dark Mod Forums I've just finished the upgrade of our IPB Board Forums to the latest release. Packed with new features, rewritten code and all that. Have a look around. The skin is currently the default one, but will sooner or later be converted to a darker skin, to fit the Dark Mod universe. Also note that the forums have been moved from http://modetwo.net/darkmod to it's own sub-domain: http://forums.thedarkmod.com - all forum links will still work tho, thanks to Apache's rewrite-plugin. Please report any bugs, requests and comments in this thread. PS: The forums will run a bit slow the first hours as the cache is being rebuilt.
  10. So... What was up with the forums all day yesterday..?
  11. Welcome to the Dark Mod forums! I enjoyed browsing your gallery. =-)

  12. Was looking through some of my old files and got a bit nostalgic. I suspect most people here have never seen these--they're some of the earliest concept sketches I did back in 2004 during the very earliest development days of TDM. I thought I'd post them for those curious about how things started. The very first concept piece, from August 23, 2004. We didn't even have a name for the mod yet: The first Builder concept, Sept 19, 2004, then a slightly adjusted colour version with pauldrons added: The second Builder Priest concept. Oct 11th, 2004. This was the piece of concept art that got Oddity, our character modeler, interested in joining the mod: The first concept sketch of the City Watch, Oct 16th, 2004:
  13. http://physicsworld.com/cws/article/indepth/45840 This reminded me about our discussions of whether to model the AI's retina vs. the rest of their eye, and then introduce eyeball movement patterns - it's probably a good thing we didn't try to implement that with a simple model, because people are still discovering more about it nowadays. But this article argues about why we shouldn't use uniform, 2-d pixel arrays in artificial eyes, and goes pretty deep into explaining why a fractal search is the most efficient, and in particular a fractal with D = 1.5, then gets into what things we find aesthetically pleasing, and it's actually things with fractal dimension that match the eye's natural fractal search dimension. Quite interesting overall.
  14. when i do a search, it give me some results, I click on a result and exspect to get taken to the post it specifies - but no..... I get taken to the first post of the bloody thread it is in..ggrrr

  16. Hello!

I saw on TDM forums that you are a very talented level designer. Could you lend your talents for The Sly Project? (http://tsp.comlu.com)

We have no level designers yet and the project was announced almost a year ago. Please join us! I'm looking forward to your answer friend.

    Best wishes: Oszkár Winkler

  17. Hello!

You mentioned on TDM forums that you are a skilled modeler. Could you lend your talents for The Sly Project? (http://tsp.comlu.com) There are only a few models we need.

If you are interested, please e-mail me: woszkar@gmail.com

    Thank you! :)

  18. I just spent over twenty minutes trying to make my laptop's sound system behave correctly. Some time ago, some random guy decided it would be a good idea to have the toggle between headphones and internal speakers in modern machines controlled via software instead of hardware. As you would guess, this leads to yet more problems. When I connect a pair of headphones, the internal speakers would keep playing. This is obviously undesirable if I'm in a public place. I tried every single audio control but whatever I turned down, it would turn down the headphones too. I'm not an engineer, but I know how these jacks used to work. There was a tiny switch inside the jack that would physically disable the internal speakers on a device when headphones were connected. It used to be plain and simple. After all, why would you want to listen to tiny internal speakers if you've got nice headphones connected? I got it working, but in closing I would like to say this. Do not make things more complex than they need to be. It frequently only causes more problems. This last line applies to the guys who think all sound mixing and routing should be taken care of in software.
  19. [update] Spoke to Marcus @AMD UK on the phone and as it turns out a number of complaints have been made against "Spyre". My AMD forum account has been unbarred and my Ip address unblocked!!! Bought a new gfx card for xmas, been having issues with mainly the driver So I though a good place to look for support and polity vent etc - or so I thought My second post got flamed by some smart arse fanboy and then promptly locked, to which I reported the posted asking why it had been locked.. and then my account on there got deleted and my Ip blocked (untill the isp dhcp refreshed etc) so I cant login even with a different account name. I have emailed AMD directly about this as I did nothing wrong according the t&c's and I got no warning Pm or email from the forum mods. Now I've been over at the nVidia forums a long while back when I had the 8800GTX when I was equally frustrated when posting about the driver issue with thief etc, but at no point did a thread get locked or worse my account deleted. I don't have loyalty to AMD or nVidia but depending on the answer I get from AMD next week this card maybe going back and AMD will be added to the list of manufactures I will never buy anything from again. So whats the moral of this story, well take your pick.. [update] found cached copies of 1 of my posts Cached AMD frum link Cached AMD forum link2
  20. why are they so slow this evening..??
  21. Came across this today, a little something for the die-hard shock fans. http://irrationalgames.com/insider/from-the-vault-july-2010/ Pretty cool
  22. Just returned from a 7 day holiday, opened up this forum, had at least 4 pages of "new content". Made it past page 2 (to about June 03), and then had to take care of a few things here. When I came back, the forum had logged me out (timeout?), and when you log out, it forgets all "new content". So you log in, and it says "there is nothing new for you". Great, now I never know what I missed between May 30th and June 03.... grrrrrrrrr With email, you would still have all unread messages *sigh* Is there a way to change this behaviour? It has annoyed me in the past, but not as much as this time.. Edit: It's even worse, there is "no new content", but when I go f.i. into the "off topic" sub-forum, it still shows me threads as unread that I definitely already did read an hour ago. So I can't even just look at all the "unread" threads. Oh boy...
