Opinion on guard light/visual acuity after 1.08?

Guard acuity

  1. 1. Do you feel guards react too slowly or too quickly to seeing you in the light?

    • The guards react too slowly.
      2
    • The guards are just right.

    • The guards react too quickly.

  2. 2. Do you feel guards are able to see too well or not well enough in low light? (is this separate?)

    • The guards are not acute enough and should see you with less light.
      4
    • The guards are just right.
      6
    • The guards are too acute and should need more light to see you.

Send me the map you're using, plus instructions on how you're setting up your 25% etc light levels.

I can't gauge this stuff w/o looking at the math behind it. The factors involved are:

1 - lightgem brightness

2 - the visibility equation

3 - AI visual acuity

4 - probability

5 - distance

6 - time of day

7 - whether it's snowing outside

8 - whether it's Tuesday or Saturday in Belgium

9 - whether I've been fed or not

Wow! Yeah, that is way too forgiving in low light. I wouldn't expect that type of behavior until around 10 or 15% brightness.

I've attached the map to the relevant bug report: http://bugs.thedarkmod.com/view.php?id=3492

I think the light is currently set to 35%. The map has only one light, the ambient_world light. I just change the "value" setting in the light properties window to change the brightness of the light. Thus far I've tested 75, 50, 35, and 25.

The AI starts facing away from you, so you can step straight to the side so he has a clear line of sight, and then wait for him to turn around. He faces each direction for 20 seconds.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just to let people know...2.0 will include a menu option to adjust how well AI see the player, so those that find the current settings too forgiving will have the option to boost it.

There will actually be 4 settings: Nearly Blind, Forgiving (the default, similar to 1.08), Challenging, and Hardcore.

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.
