Need Beta Testers for Steele #2 and #3

Well, ran into a bit of a setback tonight.

I discovered a bug in the following sky code that needs fixing for savegames to work.

Since the fix will go into 2.01, and both #2 and #3 use a following sky, I can't release the missions until after 2.01 is released.

As far as beta testing goes, however, I will make temporary executables available.

I don't feel ready to make my own mission just yet, but I think it's time I start contributing to the community other than voicing my annoying opinions about changes I'd like to see in gameplay  I would like to beta test for you, but I have no idea how to go about it. I'm sure you'll fill me in on the details, should you decide to use my help. I loved In The North!

Merry Christmas!

William Steele's next two adventures are ready for beta testing.

It took me long enough, eh?

Fourteen people volunteered to test, and hopefully a few will still be available at this point.

If you don't have access to the Beta Testing Forum, ping Springheel for permission to get in there.

Once you're in, look for the two threads, one for WS2 and one for WS3.

For those of you who can't count, play WS2 first, then WS3. ;)

I'm not going to provide a list of things you should look for or things I'm concerned about. Just play and report back with your laundry list of stuff you like, stuff you don't like, stuff that's broken, etc.

Both missions require TDM 2.01, which is itself in beta test. We don't yet know when it will be released, but you'll need to update to the 2.01 beta in order to run these missions. Instructions on how to do that are referenced in the beta threads for the missions.

Have fun, be honest, and thanks for helping me out!!

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
