Anyone found a way to insert line breaks into difficulty names?

Instead of "Easy" "Hard" etc, I want to have short phrases as the difficulty names. I quickly run out of space, however. I can poke around and include an altered .gui in my pk4, but by chance has anyone found an easy way to insert line-breaks into the names?

Try inserting "\n" at the line breaks.

Yeah, I thought that might work, but it doesn't.

Did you try to increase the vertical rect size in the gui definition?

That's easy enough, but then I have to include a copy of the entire objectives gui in my pk4, which is not ideal for future compatibility.

Yeah, I used "bad grammar" to squeeze "First Night" to "1st Night".

As a workaround, might you have a short label, but have a dummy objective purely to display text with more detail at the top of each difficulty? You could have it's display removed upon map start, so it would only be seen when players are choosing difficulty.

But the boxes are only 5% of the vertical size. So I guess it accepts the \n as line breaks, but the new lines are out of the box.

This also affects the Mission Statistics screen, which also uses the difficulty names.

That's true, didn't think about it.

However, as long as those files don't get renamed and the basic principle of the gui in regards to the objectives does not change, I don't see any possibility for an incompability.

And if I'm wrong and it occours, you can fix it. (Wouldn't be the first time missions have to be fixed for compability reasons ;) )

However, without changing the guis, I farely doubt the current system allows what you want to achieve.

So I guess it accepts the \n as line breaks

Actually, it doesn't. It just displays the "\n" as part of the line.

Well, this is really low on the priority list..I'll leave this to the end and see if I have any energy left.

<p>did you try the \r or \r\n combo and \n\r wombo combo? I haven't looked at any of the code that handles the front end stuff yet.It is done with a scripting language right? maybe it only accepts text up to a certain amount of characters as to avoid characters going off screen and possibly hell breaking lose. maybe you can just change how many it will accept without any problems. the objectives are read from a regular text file right? Then gets translated into characters that are drawn on screen?

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
