Blender 2.63a exporting md5anim/mesh files (nightmare mode)

I have a .blend file and I downloaded blender 2.63a and I downloaded the MD5 Exporter for Blender 2.63+.

When I export the file nothing happens. It doesn't give any errors or anything. To be honest though I don't care about trying to solve the problem because I despise blender but if anyone that is able to export md5anim/mesh files could please let me know what version number of blender they are using and a link to the md5 plugin they are using I will just download that so I can be done with this crap.

Thank you in advance!

You don't need Blender. You can buy Maya and do animations in it. Doom 3 has a built in importer for Maya's animations.

I would use that but sadly the model I was given is a .blend file and therefore only works in Blender. I am trying to scale it up because when the model is inside TDM it is tiny and also has no texture (but I know how to fix that)

Unless there is a way to scale models in Dark Radiant? it would be nice but I don't think it's possible.

Unless this information has changed, you can scale models in DR:

Please visit TDM's IndieDB site and help promote the mod:

(Yeah, shameless promotion... but traffic is traffic folks...)

Thank you! That seems to work but now when I look at the shark from certain angles it just disappears..

Yep, that disappearance is because of bad md5 exporter. Try

r_showskel 1

or was it com_showskel?

Anyways, you will see that the bounding box around the creature is two dimensional, rather than 3 dimensional.

To overcome this, you must use a different md5 exporter.

io_scene_md5.zip

This exporter is what I've been using. The bounding boxes are correct, but the exporter exports unnecessary frames, making it produce larger-than-needed .md5anim files.

As always in life: you can have the porsche or the supermodel, but you can't have both.

That's working better but I still get these weird errors. I try to solve the problem but it still doesn't work.

Ok that worked great thanks! Any idea what to do with this error message?

It means that some vertices are not assigned to any bone or are assigned with zero weights. Select the mesh, in edit mode select vertices (or edges, faces) and assign them to selected bones with weights bigger than zero:

Alternatively, you can paint weights in Weight Paint mode:

Put this file on line and I will take a look at it.

I just figured out the problem... and ironically it's a rather stupid solution but hey it works.. Blender MUST be version number 2.66a otherwise it doesn't work. Oh wow I can't believe its finally solved!

Everything exported and is working perfectly fine now.

Thank you so much for your help!

Yeah it was really strange but it exports. Sadly the animation took a major hit in quality but look it works im happy still!

I might msg you the file if you wanted to check it out of curiosity.

You sent me version without all of the weights. Once I fixed that I was able to export md5. I didn't see that error. I'm using this exporter with 2.70. I think it's the same one as Sotha posted. So I don't know.

Hm that's really weird as a friend tried the same thing and he got similar errors with 2.7

Does the animation still work though? As mine went wonky after that in game

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
