Sniper Ghost Fail 3

It's the same of Thief 2014, great atmosphere and a lot of stupid choices.....(hindered story, narration, gameplay) and a bunch of stupid - mostly console-development related - bugs.

See what a beauty.....NOT well used (screenshot below from Sabotage DLC)

Can't stand this waste of excellent graphic design!

I know, but some issues are engine related or plain bugs, so first thing first let's stress the devs team :D

 

This game can be GOOD with the right spin.

It still looks nice and you can snipe an endless (because respawns) amount of people :P

 

Openworld is hard to get right. You have to be Bethesda or Piranha Bytes to be able to build an openworld shooter, that does not suck (Arma does not count, as it is not a game).

Respawn is the lesser problem (you can loot the soldiers to craft ammunitions and equipment so it's a good thing, and you can always avoid the "hot zones" where the respawn is active).

 

In the first game they put a grappling hook modifying the implementation of Call of Juarez lazo/whip (feature of the Chrome Engine), the equivalent of our beloved rope arrows.

In this iteration, like in Thief Deadly Shadows, they removed it (yes, I know it was clunky) :( BUT the climbing mechanic AND the grappling hook can cohexist like Far Cry 4 perfectly shows.....

Or think about the drone that acts as an advanced version of binoculars.....they CAN cohexist! They're not in mutual exclusion!

 

Binoculars for regular scounting, drone for very sneaky business balanced with by the REAL possibility to lose it: in SGW3 it always return to you or.....REGENERATE! It's too much, on higher difficulties it would be a good thing to retrieve it and repair it OR rebuy it.

Other possible gameplay related ideas: armor weight-based malus on agility/stamina, more interactions with the fauna.....this game really seems a skeleton of what it can be.

Thief 2014 is the perfect parallel.

Another "stupid" choice: every enemy (separatist) grunt has ONLY ONE gun: the AK(A) 47.

Every taffin' one :D No pistol, no other AR, nothing.

The heavies carry a machine gun.....the same for every each of them.

 

Zero variance.

The drone was a joke: Much less battery life and radio range than current consumer products.

But yes, you should be able to lose it in the field and then have to retrieve it to get it back. It could also be treated like a mix between grenades and weapons: If it gets shot down or falls down because of empty battery, it is gone (but you can pick it up from where it "landed", if it did not flew too high). But you can buy another one back in the hideout and may also carry two or three of them.

 

The in-field energy recharging is not that unrealistic though. Compact methanol fuel cells exist and are in use by some armies to power laptops, long-range radios and other equippment.

Battery duration is on pair with the silencer (suppressor) duration: a gameplay choice needed to avoid overpowered items/weapons.

Contracts solves a good number of problems with SGW3.

Stealth is really good, I suggest to buy it under 20$/euro :D -> https://www.gog.com/game/sniper_ghost_warrior_contracts (19 euro / No DRM!)

 

No need of unofficial patch(es), the game is good enough on its own!

      Fm idea (braindump)
      "Experience the life of a mission builder"
      Esentially there are finnished elements placed somewhere in storage in the game and you have to place them in the correct places, build some walls here and there, add guard routes, give them their correct speech lines, etc. Decorate the places.. all in-game. lots of fun.. 😉
      If you do it right in the end you can play the mission.
      (would be even cooler if a thief-ai could play the mission, making it some kind of tower-defence game)
       
      This first started as an idea for an aquarium builder mission where-in you have to fill an empty aquarium with sand, waterplants, castles water and swimming fish. But above idea is more fun.
