That's fantastic, BT. :)

I like how you've integrated freemasons symbols. I like the subtle faded pentagram too. Hints at their pagan origins.

didn't expect someone would actually notice the pentagram - acutally it was some kind of tribute to id, I think there's almost no id game without one.

I'll try another color now (I chose red because it fits pretty good to the golden symbols. )

Hmm, yeah the green doesn't work as well. What about a really dark grey? The inventors don't likely have an 'official' colour, so ultimately you should use what looks best.

Wouldn't it be possible to keep the red and gold for the Inventors Guild and change the Builders colours? It might be a good idea to differentiate the Builders from the Hammerites in Thief anyway, since they're pretty much entirely identical at the moment.

Edit: (ignore this post, too much mulled wine)

Maybe a dark gray to black with red symbol would suit them better.

I don't think that would fit the inventors though. Red has power behind it, something that is really needed for the builders I think. The inventors would be far more drab...some kind of earthy tone would work better for them. I actually like the green banner.

Yes I changed my opinion completely after writing that post and have been trying to figure out how to delete the message for the last 10 minutes.

Maybe a goldish-yellow banner with black trimming and emblem? Sepia yellow is very much associated with steampunk, and black could represent the copious amounts of soot rising from their factories. Yellow also brings to mind ancient egypt where the freemasons stole much of their symbols from (the pyramid appears everywhere in their stuff). Plus black and light yellow brings to mind the old chessboard; perfect for the mind puzzles of the inventors. And yellow brings to mind smoking - I could imagine the inventors lighting up a pipe while thinking about their next invention. And coffee stains, having to stay up all night working... OK, enough yellow associations.

I think 'earthy' colours, as NH called them, should be kept for the mages or pagans. The inventors aren't very earthy, quite the opposite in fact. Blue might look good, but I don't see what royalty has to do with it. The inventors would probaly be seen as rather rebellious and anti-establishment, sent to the stocks for saying the earth was round, etcetera.

We don't need to come up with a colour that has any significance--the Guild doesn't have any 'official' colour scheme. We just need something that looks good and doesn't look the same as a Builder or City banner from a distance (so not red/gold or blue/white). Pagans wouldn't have any kind of banner. The Mage Council probably would, but it would be rarely seen so it doesn't matter if they're the same colour.

If they wouldn't really care what colour their banner is, why have one at all? It would certainly have some significance to them. A yellowish-brown/sepia banner would certainly blend better with the Inventors' surroundings. And since red and blue are taken, and green looks crap, some kind of olive brown colour would look best IMO. But the emblem and trimming would have to be a contrasting colour rather than gold to look good with the lighter yellow colour.

Looks good, but the way the fabric lays doesn't look quite right to me. I think some vertical folds would help. It just doesn't seem like the fabric is falling how it naturally would. This is just a quick photochop of how I think it should more look:

Mine may not be perfect either, but I think it would help to study real-life banners somewhere. I couldn't find many references on Google, unfortunately. Just these:

The symbol is significant, but whether it's on a black, green or purple banner doesn't matter. We could come up with 'story' justifications for virtually any colour of the rainbow. As long as it looks good and it's visually distinctive from the builder and city banners the player is likely to encounter semi-regularly, it's fine.

I still think black and gold would look sharp, but use your best judgement, BT. Whatever you come up with will be fine.

Hey @nbohr1morehow come the zombies in The Dark Mod don't have a "resurrection" mechanic to it, similar to how Thief has it?
They're quite a weak creature as of right now, it's merely a walking corpse that slashes you, making attacking them to kill them an actual strategy.
Would be better if they had some cool mechanism to it that truly makes them a danger, such as the resurrection idea itself.

Query: when was the last time a zombie in a video game was unnerving or scary to you? I'm chipping away at my anniversary submission and I've been trying to gather opinions on the subject. I'm perfectly capable of lighting them well, changing their sfx, and creating effective ambience, but I'm worried that zombies at their core are just too overdone to be an effective payoff to the tension I'm creating.

Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.
