Redface

I guess you have already noticed that I don't contribute textures to DM anymore. It's my final year at the university and I'm writing my dissertation, while trying to earn some money in every way possible. There's not much time left for anything else, yet alone creating textures, which is not exactly my preferred idea spending free time.

However, I do fire up Photoshop now and then, so if I happen to do some medieval/thief based art (trying to get better at painting architecture atm), I might as well contribute it to the project. Here is the first piece:

I'm not exactly sure if you find any use for stuff like this, so I'd like to hear your opinion.

That is very, very pretty.

My games | Public Service Announcement: TDM is not set in the Thief universe. The city in which it takes place is not the City from Thief. The player character is not called Garrett. Any person who contradicts these facts will be subjected to disapproving stares.

Even if we can't actually 'use' it for anything, mappers usually find stuff like this inspirational, so post away. :)

That's really cool. :)

Reminds me of the Black Magician Trilogy by Trudi Canavan which I finished reading a month or two ago. But that's probably just me since most people haven't heard of it... (it's good!)

We don't have any significant concept art left to be done for the mod. Indvidual mappers are usually interested in stuff for their maps, however.

Artistically it looks good. I like the contrasting colours although I'm not sure exactly what the red stuff is supposed to be. The spider definitely looks cool. It would work better as a promo piece of artwork if the thief character was more similar to ours, however, with a mask covering his face and perhaps a bow on his back.

Great work at any rate, thanks for sharing it.

I too looked at that first picture and thought about the gameplay possibilities so it is inspiring.

Looks like a cool place to loot.

As far as concepts, I'm still trying to pin down ideas on bots, if you have time to paint some up, any ideas would be great. In the models forums I've got a thread about them with the one I've almost finished aloing with other concepts and ideas.

Other than that I guess just any insprational architecture/objects would be great.

Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.

Trying to be productive on my down-time before Capcom releases Akuma and my son is constantly on my PC playing Street Fighter...

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.
