Generic Texture

BEAR

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was wondering if, when first starting a map, any of you use a generic texture to texture everything, only applying different textures once the map is coming a long?

I've seen people do that in some tutorials, some using a uniform gray texture and some using a grid star-trek holodeck looking texture.

If so, can anyone direct me to such a texture? I'm using the vanilla d3 editor atm (well, ROE really) and the textures I have to work with kind of distracts me from what I want to work on.

Thanks!

As far as I remember, the "grid-like" texture I used was some tile texture from vanilla doom's "bathroom" set.

Hope this helps,

There is no custom texture as such but I found the best texture for this purpose is...

textures/darkmod/stone/flat/smooth/ceramic_tile_tan03

which gives a great grid pattern in-game almost like 3D graph paper. See..

Though I don't know if you have access to that texture? I use it now and again for smaller projects too like recently I am in the middle of creating some stairs for a grand hall.

Thanks guys, those are all good suggestions. Those quake3 textures are great and I might make them into workable textures if I get the time, otherwise I'll just find and use a reasonable doom3 texture.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
