...like stroking a turtle; characterful... reassuringly familiar... But they do a lot of shuddering.

Light has just dawned (possibly) - are you referring to this?: http://www.pcgamer.com/previews/thief-preview-garrett-returns-to-a-city-of-voyeurism-and-detail-power-and-character/

"And the thing that's really cool in the new one is that he's always talking, like, he's alway narrating kinda what's going on as you're going throughout the game... He'll be your guide through the game helping out, you know, almost, like, a... um not an ingame strategy-guide... but he'll give you tips, he's, like, you know, thinking about things to do in the game... which actually might sound lame..."
-
"How do we make tool use acceptable and cool behavior?"... By not bothering with "uncool" crap like "stealth score"? Yes. Play _your_ game for _yourself_.

I think it's not because the score itself, people just enjoy having a good execution. The score is just a way of knowing how well you did.
-
Who is "punishing" people for using tools?
-
Punishing refers to the stealth score. It's similar like people complaining about a punishment of there playstyle due to "no kill"-restrictions
-
"I actually hope Thief4 succeeds..."... Yeah? Well I would fucking hope so. This should go without saying. But I guess it needed to be said amidst all the twisted and wretched mess that has become.
-
I personally wouldn't pay too much attention to rumors and screenshots. Maybe let's wait some time until the first demo or playtests. And even though we should all try making TDM a better Thief anyhow.
-
Demos are as "out" these days just as much as editing tools are. I hope Thief 4 succeeds because it would be nice to have another game to play.
-
Maybe it would succeed if they decide to make a demo and add editing tools

"Old Habits (Rebuild)" by Obsttorte? Awesome! Gameplay-wise, right up there with "Deceptive Shadows" and other greats. Very nice otherwises too (Aethetics & Story). Defintely top 5 of all-time... I must've played the original (I've played them all! {almost}) but I didn't recognize it at all. Highly, highly recommended.

@LZ, dude dont take this the wrong way, but can you limit the amount of "status update" you post as most them don't need to go here..
-
I agree. Create a new topic "why I love FM's by Obsttorte", mista.
-
LOL

"Public Access to the latest TDM Source Code in SVN"... is this even workable without having the 2.0 assets? I got 2.0 built, copied the 1.08 assets and etc., renamed darkmod.cfg. But it crashes. Has anyone been able to make it work?
-
"Rope arrows are limited to some hot spots, yes." Then, yes, FOCUS is NOT an option... And "hands" are NOT "characterization".
-
"Solar Escape" works now. Nice mission. It is great to see a new FMA who just built a mission, didn't get carried away; or distracted by putting up in-progs only to be "you-oughta"ed; and basically just done and sweet! (also, I figured muchandmany out about the LOUD ambient).

<chuckles> if only they knew... eh Baal.

Knew what? Don't instill any expectations.

2012... 9 Missions

It may be possible: there are multiple new people around testing DR out. Plus the contest entries.
-
Help TDM have more FMs in 2013 and make one yourself.

+1

A Problem

I assume you were trying to find TDM missions? - http://thiefmissions.com/search.cgi?search=+game=dm&sort=release#m
-
You just repeated back the same link (neither of which work as (mis)formated)... what I'm really meaning to point out is that there are many missing TDM FMs once you do get the list. "32 results returned."

Adam West? Pointed, smug, insulting provocation. Make _no_ mistake.... Just now considering asking about swimmable water (after being pressed 2-3 times)? Just more proof that the liars have no idea about Thief. The liars above have sent their lapdog liars to garner more traffic....

Add some and then trim also blue is a bit and that would never. But otherwise really great! Hope to see more screenies in a year or two where you can expect another round of stiffling-what-little-life

I never got into BSD, though I've installed it once or twice. This is another reason to check it out.
-
@Sir Tafs: +1 (zillion)
-
The BSD's arn't for everyone, but within their goals, simple code and mailing lists lies a lot of goodness and simplicity. I love the underdogs. Anyhoo work will be Linux friendly too. Portability is a cornerstone for good code.

Eh.. I started to comment out the bits and pieces of the DX SDK reliant code, as it appeared to just be erro reporting... as usual, this kind of helpful stuff is layer in abstraction and just goes on further and further... so I finally just went and installed the GD DX SDK (500+MB). Oy!... ...Still wondering though about the 2.0 assets. Thanks
