  1. I am only working on one map, although I save my results under different, incrementally numbered filenames. (i.e. erasing01.map, erasing02.map, etc.)
  2. I am having some kind of trouble with randomly disappearing textures. I could not determine when they disappear from my map, but they seem to do so randomly after behaving normally for a long time. All of them are textures which were originally used for objects (e.g. a sack, or coals, or something like that). If it matters, my map is getting rather large and complex (12400 brushes, 5200 patches, 4300 entities).
  3. Wow, thanks! I installed the GWX control panel and switched off the upgrade options. Turn out the sneaky updater has downloaded 7 GB worth of data without my knowledge or consent. Not only did it clog my laptop (I was wondering where that HD space went), it drained my monthly DL quota, so I have been sitting with a 128kbps bandwidth cap until the 16th. I am not one of the Microsoft haters, and I have been satisfied with their products, but this was a shitty thing to do. How can I trust them in the future if they try to pull this kind of crap?
  4. So Scumbag Win10 is trying to get on my system after repeatedly being told not to. The trouble is, it is no longer an offer, it is a countdown that starts when my computer is idle. How do I circumvent these fuckers? I do not want to have Win10 on my PC now or in the foreseeable future, as I am happy with Win7 (and was happy with XP before they completely discontinued it). After their pressure sale tactics, they have also burned whatever goodwill I might have had for them (and I had a lot). This must stop. (Please don't tell me to switch to Linux. I don't want to do that either.)
  5. Spooks: That's impressive! How did you achieve it?
  6. Yes, they are generally good for performance, although it doesn't matter so much for simpler maps.
  7. Interesting visuals. Adding a few less cubical elements would make it less rectangular. Perhaps a pile of dust on the floor? (prefabs/nature) Some debris? (objects/junk)
  8. All work and no play makes Melan a dull boy.

That depends on which planet you're on, so it's a hardware problem.

Indeed! Now we just need a bunch of engineers and an array of globally positioned super-efficient rocket engines to slow down the spin of the Earth. I'm sure the kickstarter crowd funding will be a great success when we tell the masses they will get more hours to their days.

  9. Can't wait to see a new mapper's first project!
  10. I have listened to a selection. The style isn't bad, but what the mod needs most aren't really musical pieces but looped "effects", cues, drones, that kind of stuff.
  11. Flinders mean shattered bits and pieces.
  12. There is already something called "boom_shroom" among the TDM assets. What does it do, though? Explode like a mine? Release a poisonous cloud? Whatever it is, someone should implement it.
  13. You can use CSG Subtract to your heart's content as long as it is for simple shapes. It can get messy when complex shapes intersect in weird ways, but for simple cube-from-cube operations, it is okay.
  14. RIP Umberto Eco.

It's heart-warming to see an italian writer so appreciated in the ALL world :)

Some writers transcend nationality, and he's one.

He was alright. Though postmodernism generally seems very vague to me.

  15. O-ho! I have wanted a control pedestal like that for a while. I even have a few brush-based prefabs. This will come handy! Thanks.
  16. There are already multiple fireplaces and stoves among the assets, which are the common methods of heating in the implied setting.
  17. So much for my long-awaited dodgem-themed level.
  18. The A-Z tutorial doesn't impact building style, since it covers just the basics and gives you a technical skillset. The final product of my A-Z project was Return to the City (and a few discarded bits and pieces), quite different from Fidcal's Thief's Den. You are free to apply the tutorial's steps to your own ideas. In fact, you should!
  19. Consortium: The Tower - Why is this Kickstarter such a well-kept secret?!

jaxa: Duh, forgot I could include URLs in my status updates here (can't do it on other forums).

SiyahParsomen: Sadly, I don't think so either.

Already pledged, even though I haven't played the first one yet. But I like the idea.

Why have I knot heard of this?! If I had the kinda cash they needed, that's something I'd get behind.

  20. That would be the idea. The static is completely good. For the pylons, you could just use one of the existing glare particles, or scale down one of them to fit.
  21. I guess what I am looking for is an item that's flexible to be placed at several different angles, like Thief's floodlights (which was introduced in the Opera mission, I think). TDM has a bunch of good wall lights and lanterns, but this kind of object is not yet included.
  22. Very elegant work, Epifire! Love the detailing. How about a separate spotlight object (without the support structure and the hanging box), in a smaller and larger size? That could be a versatile prop.
