  1. I played on my old ex work machine which doesn't have a very powerful graphics card but it manages most of the time, I should have played on my new laptop really It's a Dell Precision T1700, 8Gb Ram, Intel® Core™ i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz × 8, NVIDIA Corporation GK107GL [Quadro K600], running 64 bit Zorin OS 17.3 Core I did look at upgrading the graphics card but decided on getting a laptop instead, I really need to use the laptop more, I did get it for games after all Regarding volumetric lighting, I just turned off volumetric effects in the advanced video menu, reloaded the game, went back to the stairs & there's no noticeable framerate drop, so as no one else complained I'd say don't worry about it, I'll play with that setting, thanks for asking though
  2. OK, I loved this mission, I've loved every one of the lieutenant series so far The only issue I did have was a framerate drop on the Everywhere else was smooth as silk I got all the loot* & everyone apart from the the non KO guards is asleep, no issues with KOing, spent a lot of time staring at things wondering how I was going to get up/down/across to them & thinking "this is never going to work" except it did, I do like puzzles like that * So thank you for this
  3. Quite enjoyed this one, nice climbing opportunities, thanks Re the safe
  4. Sorry I have no idea, I did find a review for the 15.6" model from a few years ago that said IPS if that's a help
  5. Okidoki, I finally bit the bullet & went with a Recoil 17 from PC Specialist Specs I went for are Chassis & Display: Recoil Series: 17" Matte QHD+ 240Hz sRGB 100% LED Widescreen (2560x1600) Processor (CPU): Intel® Core™ i9 24 Core Processor 14900HX (5.8GHz Turbo) Memory (RAM): 32GB PCS PRO SODIMM DDR5 4800MHz (1 x 32GB) Graphics Card: NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 4080 - 12.0GB GDDR6 Video RAM - DirectX® 12.1 External DVD/BLU-RAY Drive 1TB PCS PCIe M.2 SSD (3500 MB/R, 3200 MB/W) Operating System: NO OPERATING SYSTEM REQUIRED The case seems to be made of metal not plastic & there's an optional water cooling unit, which I didn't get For the OS I disabled fast boot & secure boot, loaded Zorin 17.2, used the entire disk, without any installation issues Zorin is a Ubuntu fork so Ubuntu & it's other forks shouldn't have an issue if anyone else gets one of these The only minor issue is the keyboard backlight isn't recognized by default, but the forums are full of info on sorting that out, not that I'm too bothered I've installed TDM & it runs beautifully I also copied my thief 1 & 2 installations from my desktop, I had to uncomment "d3d_disp_sw_cc" in cam_ext.cfg to get the gamma processing working but they run happily too The fans switch on when booting & switch off again after a few seconds, the machine isn't stressed enough to turn them on running TDM so far - this is not a challenge btw On the whole, I'm extremely pleased So thanks for all the advice
  6. I got that too, fortunately I had a save from just before the conversation, so I tried it a few times, stuck every time I managed to open a console window just before the conversation started so I could see if there were any error messages I didn't spot any & when desmond shut up I closed the console & found I could move So I quickly saved & that overwrote the save I had before the issue, sorry didn't think to keep it I did enjoy this campaign, excellent work, the puzzles were hard but not too hard Thank you to everyone who contributed
  7. That'd be a first for me Thank you Thank you all, I think I've got enough to go with now
  8. Sorry if this is in the wrong place, please feel free to move it or merge with an existing thread I'm looking to get a new laptop, my desktop is fine but struggles with graphics in some TDM missions plus it means locking myself in the spare room One obvious requirement is it needs to play TDM Another is it's going to run Linus but that's my problem I've found a machine that looks reasonable & won't break the bank, but will it play TDM ? Specs are : Acer Nitro 5 AN517-55-7366 17-inch - Core i7-12700H 2.3GHz - 16GB 512GB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 6Gb, QWERTY - English
  9. sigh I believe I've made my position on messing around with non game mechanics like preventing saves well known on the previous occasions this topic has surfaced The TL;DR is do it if you want but I for one won't be playing it
  10. I got that with two guys
  11. I'm a 65 yo Mancunian, everyone I know pronounced it as "Thrupenny"
  12. Thank you so much for this
  13. Very enjoyable, and an interesting setting My machine struggled a little with the exterior at times but nothing major One question
  14. I don't know if this is any use to TDM but if I don't post it we'll never know https://sonniss.com/gameaudiogdc Apologies if this is in the wrong folder, please feel free to move the thread or remove the thread if it's no use
  15. I was quite surprised to find I hadn't played this one before, thank you I found it to be very enjoyable
  16. Found on mastodon https://qoto.org/@sergeant/110515717084181370
  17. Oooo I've never tried that I've blackjacked frogs though, I was very disappointed to find you can't pick them up & use them as as a grenade

  20. No worries it was my fault, I should have cleared cookies first, I'm just letting people know in case they do the same
  21. Well that was fun, I managed to get my account locked for half an hour Top tip Delete all the cookies for the forum along with any saved passwords before trying to log back in
  22. Well that was fun, took me a while to work out how to get into the upper floors, I'm quite proud of getting to the archer over the river he was bugging me Tragically death visited the area Or so everyone believes I did have a few issues at the beginning where the game crashed to desktop a couple of times right at the start but that has apparently been looked at, so I'll give it a few weeks & try the new version Also Mr Harrington was inside his apartment walking into the wall with the veranda on the other side when I found him, not sure if that's been mentioned But overall a really enjoyable mission, excellent architecture, well decorated, good but not impossible puzzles, thank you
  23. Congratulations, I think I'll replay in plain sight first & then have at this one Thank you
  24. Sorry if this is a bit late or it's been fixed, my memory is atrocious these days On the way to the beggar there's a courtyard with an accessible roof section (pictured) There's a generator with a climbable pipe & a spikey guard rail (centre of image) So naturally I climbed the pipe to get over the rail, jumped off the pipe & ended up inside the roof to the right This is on the original release version of the mission Feel free to delete this once it's been seen I'm conscious space is an issue with image storage
  25. OK "Coding. Especially GPT-4 is magnificent." @vozka - Because it was trained on data from sites like Stack overflow where human written code snippets abound, these are being plagiarised without any recognition of the original author or which site they came from. They mined the internet wholesale to train their clockwork parrot, not one person who provided data for this plastic plagiarist will see any recognition or a single penny for their work "What you can't do is nail your work to the church door for all to freely see, or give it to every merchant to sell on the open market, and then retroactively decide you want to reserve additional rights for yourself!" @ChronA - Agreed, but when someone takes those notes from the church door and fabricates something that's incorrect from them that can damage your reputation, then you have some redress. Truth & accuracy should be the very least of our expectations, that should be a built in from day one OpenAI will not release details of the training dataset it's used, probably because they don't want bills arriving by post or they don't want IP plagiarism lawsuits for all the websites they ripped off, however it appears that Meta & Google have been quite happy to use Breitbart, Russia Today, Stormfront, Kiwi Farms & 4chan as sources of training data
