  2. A stealth way to do this is probably to overvolt the streetlights, there should be a way to do so but tell the player in a roundabout way
  3. how about the varying size and shape of the lamp post / the pier mount? could it be used to denote whether the lamp can be destroyed or not ? i have an idea which may or may not be intuitively practicable. This might also ruin the immersiveness : Put a brand label on the lamp post. Each brand have their own visual brand identity and comes with pros and cons. For example : KarrassElektrischen lamp post product is known to have a fragile glass but the light bulb has a strong filament compared to other competitor. Builderhouseware lamp post is made with a solid and firm glass , immune to corrosive acid but the light bulb filament is weak . InventorGuild brand have the best for both worlds. For starter, use your spyglass and zoom in into the the brand label attached to the lamp post. Once you have identified the brand, start shooting the glass
  4. i want to try darkradiant on linux. Not sure how heavy the software is. i don't want to abuse this poor thing Now i am in the process of researching new SSD replacement & GaN charger. i have found a primer on magnetic spinning disk & the underlying technology of solid state drive but i still found it hard to grok the magic behind this technologies cylinder, head and track number.. That's the last thing I heard when I was messing around with the solaris installer
  5. This is the continuation of my first post above. Weeks ago i got a string of bad days. My main PC(elitedesk 800 g3) suffered a SSD failure and i noticed my thinkpad charger have an exposed wire. So i decided to dust off my old lenovo ideapad(ideacrap) yesterday. The spec is i3 6th generation, 4 gigs of RAM, 2.5" 500GB spinning drive and it's equipped with Intel HD & Nvidia GT 920MX. It runs Ubuntu mate 20.04 with Nvidia proprietary driver version 470 installed on it. I tried running TDM 2.12 on it and i got a somewhat 'playable' framerate at 25-33 FPS. I could hear this poor thing groaning when running TDM. It got hot quickly around 25-30 minutes into game.

  7. i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...

tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

@The Black Arrow woah i remember the time when SSD was in its infancy. This took me back to late 2011 to 2013 when the capacity of ssd was extremely small (with the smallest one ranging from 40 to 60Gb) and utterly expensive. It costed an arm and a leg to buy SSD with the capacity of 120GB and above. You would often see big brands like Intel (intel 3xx and 5xx), OCZ and corsair fighting SSD market dominance. On that day, most people on tech forums advised you to put the OS on SSD and leave the HDD as the second storage because there was a notion that ssd is not good for long term data storage. Despite a series of ads showing that ssd makes your system faster, at that time I wasn't interested in upgrading to ssd because win7, 8.1 and early version of windows 10 could run fine on spinning disk. It was not until windows 10 1809/1903 that i felt it had become unusable on spinning disk.

anyway thank you for the suggestions. i feel like i have to swallow a bitter truth that SSD sometimes doesn't give you a hint in advance when it's on the way out as opposed to HDD. I've seen the worst with HDD : click of death, rough scratching sound and etc. My anecdote is that even though I didn't see anything suspicious about the s.ma.r.t status through the crystaldiskinfo and hdtune software, the end result is that I still get severe errors suddenly.

I think i have neglected SSD maintenance guide. Yep this is purely my own fault. First, I should reevaluate running multiple hyper-v VMs on SSD. I guess the heavy I/O of the VMs could put a strain to SSD wear leveling. Second, i should closely monitor SSD operating temperature , the third is i should do due dilligence when it comes to buying a good SSD and the last is the importance of having UPS(not because my area often has power outages & power brownout but because the electronics in my house often experience short circuits and tripping the circuit breaker)

  9. well i am habitual to using iptables to a certain extent. The simplicity of BSD's packet filter is fascinating. I begin to muse on the possibility of rolling my own x86 router and the pros&cons of it
  10. just droppin a random video here creatively made video :
  11. yeah the empty room took me by surprise at the end of the game(i managed to turn off the music tho). so who was jamming to the music? i managed to hop into the window of the empty room by stacking a crate. My attempt to do the long jump from the starting apartment didn't fare well...
  12. i am using TDM 2.12 beta 5 running on windows 10...
  13. Greetings. i want to report a possible bug in reynald's laboratory location. It's a bug where you can go through wall
  14. Think of the book as a surface that can be pierced by arrows and is very flexible to be carried over anywhere. Orient the book to upright with the front side/back side of the book and the tail of the rope arrow facing you, jump normally like jumping into a rope arrow while continuously pressing the key W (move forward) and space together on the keyboard.
  15. my random videos about ... umm.... TDM quirks
  16. i don't see pierced tin lantern anywhere in TDM. I think it can coexist with current TDM's theme. This type of lantern don't amplify light but it casts beautiful lighting patterns
  17. Does this 2.12 bring much more graphic overhead for low-end GPU ?
  18. i am looking to play this FM and can't wait to try it next week. It looks like a good FM with a vast & open ended area to explore. I am getting swamped by TBP this very time
  19. After taking a gaming break for 1 week, i decided to get back into playing games yesterday especially stealth game like TDM. Coincidentally, this new fan mission appeared in the online mission archive when i was clicking "download mission" button, so I decided to download & try playing it. I like this manor/estate fan mission so far. i like the starting point of this FM where you have to venture silently into small-scale spider-infested forest. On a related note, i have sporadic spider phobia and again this mission helped me to desensitize myself to spider. I usually find the entry point to the manor disguised as a wall with loose bricks or covered with tall green grass but i have to find stone walled key for this one
  20. A feature to push rating data to thiefguild.com website might be a great idea but apparently thiefguild doesn't have any sort of API . On that note we need to find a way to supply the authentication to thiefguild, make the server acknowledge the supplied authentication data, open/store the session and then send the rating data via POST request. The hardest part is duplicate submission check and preventing accidental multiple POST request
