  1. I guess the title explains it all. I'm rewriting my big Photoshop tutorial to be more Darkmod specific, and wanted to post it to the Wiki for future reference. The only problem is that I'm not given any option to register, only to log in. This leads me to believe that permission to edit the wiki is by invite only, and I have to harass one of you here before I'm given access. So. Here I am. Harassing you all. Let me edit the wiki!

      No problem that I know of. I just think it's a cool feature and wonder if it's been tried yet... Much better than using difficulty spawnargs for performance changes to maps (like HoLS does).

  5. [update] Spoke to Marcus @AMD UK on the phone and as it turns out a number of complaints have been made against "Spyre". My AMD forum account has been unbarred and my Ip address unblocked!!! Bought a new gfx card for xmas, been having issues with mainly the driver So I though a good place to look for support and polity vent etc - or so I thought My second post got flamed by some smart arse fanboy and then promptly locked, to which I reported the posted asking why it had been locked.. and then my account on there got deleted and my Ip blocked (untill the isp dhcp refreshed etc) so I cant login even with a different account name. I have emailed AMD directly about this as I did nothing wrong according the t&c's and I got no warning Pm or email from the forum mods. Now I've been over at the nVidia forums a long while back when I had the 8800GTX when I was equally frustrated when posting about the driver issue with thief etc, but at no point did a thread get locked or worse my account deleted. I don't have loyalty to AMD or nVidia but depending on the answer I get from AMD next week this card maybe going back and AMD will be added to the list of manufactures I will never buy anything from again.   6. Today I wanted to fix a problem with my plaguemask and as it was a long time ago since I used DR I wanted to consult the wiki for advice. Yet again I realized that it's nearly impossible to find anything there. If I want to find something I need to know the exact title of the page (I tried searching for model list and the model wishlist page didn't pop up on the first page of results) or I better pray that it's accessible from one of the pages linked from here: http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Main_Page I wanted the A-Z guide for DR today and if I hadn't known where to find the link for it (under quick installation guide) I would probably not have found it. I remember that Serpentine wrote a page with some useful tips for DR as well but it doesn't seem to be linked from the DR page and I don't know the exact title for it either so that's gone forever for me (if I don't want to search through my 35+ page thread for the link). I'm just asking if someone could go through the wiki and link all/most of the articles from one of the subpages of the wikis start page. I know it'll be a tedious job but I think it'll help people out enough that it'd be worth it. I was just wandering if anyone could try to improve/maintain the wiki better? For this kind of work you don't need any programming/modeling/mapping experience so anyone should be able to do it.

      Never underestimate the power of the wiki entries! Individual mapper knowledge may or may not help the community, depending how active the mapper is in helping others. Wiki entries are great way to store the accumulated mapper knowledge for everyone. (Is the wiki data backuped by the way? Can a server failure make all the data disappear?) Sometimes I need to read my own wiki articles to remember how something was done...

  14. Just returned from a 7 day holiday, opened up this forum, had at least 4 pages of "new content". Made it past page 2 (to about June 03), and then had to take care of a few things here. When I came back, the forum had logged me out (timeout?), and when you log out, it forgets all "new content". So you log in, and it says "there is nothing new for you". Great, now I never know what I missed between May 30th and June 03.... grrrrrrrrr With email, you would still have all unread messages *sigh* Is there a way to change this behaviour? It has annoyed me in the past, but not as much as this time.. Edit: It's even worse, there is "no new content", but when I go f.i. into the "off topic" sub-forum, it still shows me threads as unread that I definitely already did read an hour ago. So I can't even just look at all the "unread" threads. Oh boy...
  15. Just a reminder that when missions are updated, we need to make efforts to update hosting to the new versions and if necessary update the FM download wiki page. I believe so far at least two (or three?) summer vertical contest missions have been updated, and there might have been other independent FM updates recently too, but either it didn't come to mind to update the page or the means wasn't there (I can't update hosting sites and rapidshare and mediafire suck). We need coordinated effort to keep links up to date: the author announces and posts the update, hosts grab it and mirror, any of us update the wiki if necessary. Authors: if your updated versions are not reflected on the wiki, please speak up (loudly if necessary) to bring it to attention (here, or in the appropriate thread). Example updates exist on the wiki; see Heart of Lone Salvation or The Tears of St Lucia.

  18. I've just completed the upgrade from IPB 2.2.x to 2.3.6, the newest official release of IPB. This was done to stay ahead on the IPB version 3 that is currently in the beta stages.   20. We've started a new general wiki article specifically for mappers about animating your characters, postures, go to etc, generally adding atmosphere and story. We've brought all the different features together in one article and linked to the related articles. So if you want your AI to sit, or kneel, or stir a pot or go somewhere, etc then you can start in one place.. http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Animations%2C_Postures%2C_Controlling_AI_%28for_Mappers%29 Note that many of the anims listed may not work on all AI but more importantly, new animations will be added from time to time. This article and this list are at the time of writing still work in progress. All the developer animation articles are moved from the editing index to avoid clutter but easily found from the link in the above article.
  21. Hey, I am a newbie at DR. Last time I have touched Dromed was about 5 years ago and even I did released a couple of missions I was never good at it. Also I have no illusions I will ever be good with DR either. But I don't mind that. I loved working with Dromed and now that I have found that DR is allive and kicking I am gonna give it a go at it. So I am new at DR and following the wiki tutorials and started with A - Z Beginner Full Guide. At current stage I am at page 2 and noticed that there are some things different from the version of DR that I am using. (DarkRadiant 1.2.2) and I guess from the time of writing the tutorials. For example to create an entity it says: RMB menu > Create Entity > darkmod > AI > Non-combat > atdm:ai_townsfolk_male1 However in my version of DR I don't have the submenu Non-Comat but I do have RMB menu > Create Entity > darkmod > AI >Townsfolk>atdm:ai_townsfolk_commoner I would like to offer my service to edit these things as I go on with the tutorials and offer some suggestions from a newbie perspective. And with that I have a question that comes with it. If I make an account on wiki can I edit articles without someone revieuwing it? Because I don't want that. 1 - the tutorial has been written within a certain perspective and therefore my suggestion might not fit, 2 - English is not my native tongue as I am sure you have noticed by now. Second question, would you even want this kind of help? I don't want it to cause more trouble then it is worth so if you are not intrested in it that is perfectly fine as well. Peldra
  22. A couple people have requested a wiki page on how I created the final scene in Somewhere Above the City. I'm thinking of doing this, but before I do, I wanted to find out what people are expecting, before I go off and write something totally useless. The scene uses sets, cameras, scripting, a conversation, vocals, and two SAG members. Are there particular areas people are trying to learn? Thanks!

The dark mod has come along way. with dark radiant released and many Thief FM makers out there along with the hype about this mod in the thief community maybe You guys should add in some new parts of the forums. For editor Discusion, and just general mapping. along with coding and stuff. so there is help here for the mappers that are at work learning and using the D3 editor. just a thought it would be a good move to create a really good base of DM editors for the release. it would help us solve the problems we are having and get better as we talk about it and learn the editor. also maybe a FM concepts forum to. to talk about ideas for good maps and for ppl to req mappers and coders for DM projects... i think its the right move. it would also bring a lot of new people interested in the mod's comunity on a daily bases. maybe we can steel some of the fm makers from the first two thiefs haha. hopefully. theres alot of amazing FM's out there for the first 2.
