  1. Since upgrading my machine (and switching to a Geforce 8800 GTX) I've noticed a couple times now in TDM where I get a strange flicking effect. At first it just looks like the screen is randomly flickering to black for half a second, occuring every 5-10 seconds. Tonight (the second time I've noticed it) it started happening again, and the frequency started getting faster and the effect more severe--after a few minutes surfaces almost looked like they were z-fighting every two seconds or so. It seemed to be somehow related to the flickering of nearby lights...there were a couple places where the flickering stopped, and it was always where there were no lights. As soon as there were flickering lights visible it started up again. Anyone heard of this before?
  2. Thinking laterally I'd say that in `Patently Dangerous' you do not need to fight anyone: the mission can completely be ghosted or played only using Jack the Black. About the load problem: did you tested the unmmodded doom 3? Can you start a game play a little, and reload? Usually doom 3 is slow on start and fast on reload. In your case it seems it is always slow. I was wondering if it was really a TDM problem.
  3. Check out this topic. A few other people had a "black menu" problem. http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/10319-black-screen-on-startup/
  4. Hello, I have Doom in the correctly patched version and i have directed the darkmod folder into the Doom 3 folder and i can also run the darmod by starting up Doom 3 and then clicking on the "mods" menu. But as soon as i start the mod, the normal Doom 3 load screen pops up where it says "initializing menues" and stuff like that and then all i get is the sound and a black screen. I can't even see the menu! I just get the cursor and the sound. Can anyone help me with that problem?
  5. I have a similar problem. When I set the resolution to 1366x768 the resolution was 1280x720 in truth - and vice versa...not too big problem I have set to 1280x720 and I've got the needed 1366x768. Otherwise with 1280x720 (I thought it is 1366x768...) some texts - for example the longer inventory texts - slip out of the screen...not the all text, but some letters of it...
  6. Ok I did disable the Catalist AI. I tried the training mission and that now works. the mission i kept trying to load before was challice of kings. the game runs nicely but I've noticed that the Vsync just won't enable so now I get this slight screen tear while running. Come to think of it none of the video settings are changing even when I restart the game. Oh well so far so decent.
  7. My hardware: AMD x2 3GHz (each) ATI RADEON 4850 HD Win Vista Ultimate with maxed out 3.5GB DDR2 RAM 888MHz Mainboard is an M2N I have the most updated drivers and 1.3.1. Doom as ive checked this while running Doom 3 (which runs just fine) The Game Loads then says "Mission Loaded, Please wait" Then the Game will crash saying Doom 3 has stopped responding and as follows with the signature Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: DOOM3.exe Application Version: 1.0.0.1 Application Timestamp: 45ad459a Fault Module Name: atioglxx.dll Fault Module Version: 6.14.10.9116 Fault Module Timestamp: 4af1999d Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 005fec60 OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 8d13 Additional Information 2: cdca9b1d21d12b77d84f02df48e34311 Additional Information 3: 8d13 Additional Information 4: cdca9b1d21d12b77d84f02df48e34311
  8. Can you post the changes that occur between the DoomConfig.cfg where your screen is pitch black, and the default one? (Since it looks like you're on Linux, a unified diff (use diff -u) would be grand. )
  9. I also solved this problem this way: - started the game. - started the game again, now it is pitch black. I used the console to quit. - copied the default DoomConfig.cfg into .doom3/darkmod directory. - started the game again, now it works fine. Maybe it deserve a note in the FAQ?
  10. I fixed my id+black screen* removing from darkmod/fms the folder of the mission I failed to correctly install and the most recent modified files in the darkmod folder (currentfm, gamex86.dll, doomconfig.cfg, tdmlauncher.log). *caused by my closing the darkmod with alt+f4 when the screen was apparently unresponsive. While I doubt the log file matter, maybe the currentfm can be a problem too?
  11. I have this problem as well, however I can reproduce it quite easily. 1. Install a fan mission after a fresh install of TDM. 2. Install another fan mission or uninstall the one that was installed in step 1. 3. Black screen. Also, the load screen before the main menu is the default Doom 3 one, only without the texts (i.e. Loading game, Initialising Menu) I have tried using the methods found in the previous posts, but none of them worked. Deleting all TDM related files in my Doom3 file and then re-downloading the whole 1.4GB TDM again solves this problem though. So far it meant that I need to download the whole mod again for every fm i want to play, but I'll now try making a backup of the TDM files to get quick acess to them.
  12. Hm, yeah, did you choose 16:9 on the menu screen? (probably, because you also set your resolution). Oh, btw, you need to restart D3 to make a resolution change "stick". That is: * start D3 * change resolution * exit D3 * restart D3 * now install or play FM If you change the resolution, then install an FM or just play it, then exit, it might be that the setting is not saved and you end up with your previous setting. (because D3 only might write the config at exit but installing or playing an FM would reuse the setting from that FM). Just speculatin, but could be it
  13. Hi guys, first of all, GREAT MOD! You guys did a fantastic job on this. I finally got round to buying Doom 3 so I could try out TDM and it's been excellent. However I have one teething problem: TDM keeps changing my resolution every time I quit a session for some reason. I play TDM on a HDTV at 1280x720 (16:9) but TDM will change the resolution in the config file to 1366x768 every time I quit. This is supremely annoying because the TV doesn't support that resolution and if I forget to edit the config file before I load TDM the next time I play, I won't get a display and the only way to exit then is to hard reboot (because I can't see the exit button) which then corrupts my Doom 3 installation Anybody else experiencing this problem? Any workarounds other than having to edit the config file every time? EDIT: Clarified some points.
  14. Hello there i seem to have a problem that didn't occure yet. I checked the faq and forum posts but couldn't find anything like my problem. So here is a description: Sometimes all the light vanishes and i don't mean the black texture bug. I can still see everything, but there is no light, i still see the the flames of, for example torches, but otherwise it is just like in a dark shadow. I also notices that the AIs just act like there was no light, they don't see me, even when i am standing right in front of them. Also the lightgem stays dark, no matter how close i am to a lightsource, only exception is when i use the lantern, then the lightgem brightens up, but still no visible light. This bug doesn't occure always, but seems to be linked to the opening of certain doors. Apart from that i had some crashes and freeze ups, but i have it is nothing serious. Doom 3 runs just fine on my system, but i only have an onboard graphic chip, so maybe thats the problem? After i have now described my problem i just have to praise the developers of this mod, it is great, real good gameplay. Despite my ignorance of modding i am aware how much effort was put into this project, so i want to say thanks for this entertaining mod. ps: if my english seems a bit weird, sorry, didn't get much oppertunity to practise it lately ^^
  15. OK... I renamed gamex86.dll in doom3/base, still the same error, so I uninstalled RoE, then Doom3, then deleted the Doom3 folder and reinstalled Doom3 without RoE, set it up and made sure it ran OK, patched it to 1.3.1.1304, and checked again it was still running OK. Next I copied DarkMod from the torrent into the Doom3 folder, and ran the DarkMod launcher. Again it ran first time, I changed the aspect ratio and screen resolution, and restarted. Once again it showed the Doom3 loading screen, then a black screen. This time there was one less warning in the console, with 160 warnings shown. It's a puzzle...
  16. Hi. I've got the same problem here. The Dark Mod runs fine first time, tried to change the resolution and restart, and I get the Doom 3 loading screen, then a black main menu. The Dark Mod music plays but the screen is black. The console still works, and it shows 161 warnings related to being unable to load various assets for the main menu. On a more positive note, I loved the music, and the artwork I briefly saw on the menu was very atmospheric. I'm really looking forward to working this little bug out so I can see some more I think I might try the Linux version tonight...
  17. I'm having the same problem on Windows 7 and a GTX280 on 195.62. It starts fine but defaults on 1920x1200, when I set my resolution and restart I just see a black screen.
  18. Hello all, I just got Doom 3 installed and patched and I got The Dark Mod installed and for the most part it works. However, there's some graphical type errors I keep seeing as I wander through the training mission. At various spots throughout the mission(most of the time in the outside areas) the textures aren't displaying properly, they look black/white with some specs of color here and there... I've tried everything I can think of to fix the issues, I've looked through the FAQ, made sure to update both my graphic drivers and direct x, and I've even reinstalled TDM, but to no help... My System Specs: Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ 2.6GHz Dual Core 2GB Ram
  19. Well, I'm wondering if anyone can help me here. Here's the problem: - Installed Doom 3, patched it to 1.3.1.1304 (checked with console), also installed Resurrection of Evil. Note that I can run Doom 3 at pretty high graphics settings without any problems, so I guess I meet the hardware requirements for TDM, too. - Downloaded torrent version of TDM, extracted it into specified directory. Also downloaded some of the missions and put them into the proper directory. - Started up TDM, and at this point it still worked fine. - Chosen to install the Tutorial. The program restarts, but this time I have a black screen with only the mouse cursor visible (and it moves), and the TDM menu music playing. If I move around the cursor, I get some sound effects which I guess indicate me rolling over menu options, but of course I can't see that. - Since I can't see anything, the Exit button included, I can only leave the program by Alt-Tabbing out of it. Further attempts to run TDM (including after a reboot of the computer) produce the same black screen with working cursor and music. My specs: WinXP Intel Duo CPU E7600 @ 3.06 GHz ASUSTek motherboard 4 Gb RAM GeForce 9600 GT GPU Any help would be appreciated.
  20. "Catalyst AI" performs game-specific optimisations - the kind of optimisation that would break other games if it was used globally, but doesn't affect that particular game's correctness and provides a small speed boost for it. Unfortunately, one of those games is Doom 3, and while the optimisations that it performs work fine for base Doom 3, they are also applied to TDM (since it can't tell the difference between D3 and D3+TDM). TDM has some rendering modifications over base Doom 3 (bloom and skyportals), so those D3-specific optimisations are no longer appropriate and cause stuff to break. Hence, upside-down screen, weirdly rotating sky, etc.
  21. Don't beat yourself up. I assumed that using the TDM Updater to download the mod would avoid the possibility of corrupted textures so I didn't even consider it. We all know who "Assumption" is the mother of right? I would just hope that this gets added to the Wiki as a possible cause of Black textures.
  22. While I can understand that you are a little frustrated with us, there's absolutely no reason to throw out personal insults like this. We get it already that you read the wiki and the forums, but believe me, if we knew the solution to your particular problem by heart, we'd tell you. It's obvious that there must be something wrong with your particular setup, as the common solution to the black textures problem doesn't draw in your case. I'd recommend double-checking your drivers and maybe try to test your installation on another computer, if you have the chance. Remember that we're not getting paid for this, so insulting TDM team members is not really getting you any further. The next time you are angry with some people across the internet, just leave your fingers off the keyboard, ok? If there's another wave of name-calling from your side, I'll be less polite.
  23. This only needs to be set to 1 if you are having low frame rates. This will compress all the textures again and decrease your visual quality. It has no effect on black textures. seta image_useallformats "1" should be the magic key here. Try setting it in both your base doom 3 folder and in the fan mission folder itself. You should definitely be able to see the textures.
  24. Hi and thank you for the replies and suggestions so far. @Fidcal I haven't played St Lucia on this machine. @Serpentine I had the 9.10 driver and I have now updated to the 9.11 driver, no change. @New Horizon I realise your second last reply was meant for Noisycricket but with the new driver I have again gone through and tried both the default (My default) config as well as the change you mention and after that didn't work I tried the other changes as well. @Noisycricket I haven't fiddled with DOOM 3 settings at all and the game had detected as Ultra, I changed that to High instead, changed seta image_useCompression back to 1 since it got set to 0 when I changed my DOOM 3 settings. I still have a black screen. image_useallformats makes no difference whether its set to 1 or 0. Uncertain if this is relevant, but my resolution settings don't seem to have any effect on the game. Low res even though I've got the config set to 1920x1200. Regards,
  25. As I said above, the only setting required to fix the black textures is image_useallformats "1". We had played around with the others while trying to solve the problem back in the day, but later figured out you only needed to set that one setting. It won't hurt to have seta image_usePrecompressedTextures "1" set, although having seta image_useNormalCompression "2" and seta image_useCompression "1", is just going to recompress all the DDS files again at map load and increase your loading time.
