[MOD] - Upright bow with aimer

Dram

Leaving the choice to the player is nice, but IMO leaving the choice to the mapper would make more sense without filling the menus with UI tweaks. Is it possible?

Well if the mapper adds this into the FM's PK4 package then the bow would be there by default. However I do not recommend this, as it forces those who prefer the angled, no aimer bow to use the upright with aimer.

Doesn't really make sense to leave a player preference like how the bow is angled up to the mapper. How the bow is angled has no gameplay impact on how the map plays. Should the mapper be able to force bloom and the other enhanced visuals on? Nope.

Except that's mostly the way it has been for T1/T2 FMs: if a mapper wants to include a custom bow to replace the default one, they can (see T2X). That's all I wanted to know.

Yes, that can already be done in the same way the player can add it to the existing mod...just include the files with the map, but as dram says the player shouldn't be forced to use it, so including it isn't really encouraged.

That's exactly I do not like it in games Briareos.

And TDM really shouldn't be limited how bow mods had been done in Thief/T2X. I like feedom of choice, not to be forced with things that are simply matter of taste like graphic settings or GUI choices. Coping Drams mod to the darkmod folder is fine for me personally. But my point is: Things aren't in the menu options won't be easily found by any newcomers. Two major keys for games to succeed are usability and players choice (among others). ...

That's why I think TDM would benefit including options like this one lots people may benefit. And what's the disadvantage?! I don't need the option to disable the lightgem for just an example. But I can see it's cool for people who like to do so. And don't tell me having many menu options overwhelm the intelligence of players. Like so many Console game producers try to tell us ;)

simply 'cos it is advisable if TDM want to attract players.

If there are players out there who won't try TDM because the bow doesn't look exactly like T2, they can take a flying leap as far as I'm concerned. <_<

Well, we do have a FM download menu, and I don't see why we couldn't add a "Install Addons" menu, either. Technically possible, it is just some work.

Then the player could simple click the addons he likes, they get downloaded and put in place, even the version gets checked, and the compatibility with other addons.

That makes it easy for newcomers to find them, and also makes it easy for lazy players like me. :)

If we ever have more than one add-on (or plugin or whatever we call them), then we can start to think about this. Right now new player will probably find the bow-mod on thedarkmod.com under "Downloads", right next to the mod, anyway.

Is it possible to leave the initial choice of default classicism or classic defaultics to the TDM team, and, then, hierarchically, following a a pattern of allowing a choice to fall, then, into, the hands (or what might be regarded as the minds) of FMAs; only to, then, allow the player to, then, possibly-maybe (tm/cr/bg) attune themselves, or rather their playing experience, perhaps, to, and with an easily adjustable or otherwise selectable, menu, cfg, registry tweak selection process in which they finally, but not entirely, somehow ultimately have control beyond the preferred preferences of said others up the hierarchy as it may be beheld?

Surely this must be considered?

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
