1.08 Savegame pics skewed

Recommended Posts

When I want to load a savegame, the Save/Load menu shows me a pic stored with the savegame.

These pics are skewed in 1.08. The top is pushed to the right and the rightmost part of the image appears on the left.

Anyone else seeing this, or is it just me?

Well, I haven't changed any cvars directly. This is simply 1.08 starting with its defaults and me changing a few values via the menus. I'm not aware of any menu options that affect how savegame images are written.

I know its a bit 'round the houses' but could you do a clean uninsuatll of the gfx driver and reinstall it to see if that has any effect..

That looks like an adressing issue to me, which would also explain why the image is "wrapped" along that 45° border. Such a 45° border would be produced if the pixels were adressed on a linear array and if the width parameter W was one pixel too big: linearArray[y*W+x]. But has anyone even touched the code of tga export? To my knowledge, only the jpg code was altered, wasn't it?

I've been taking a lot of screenshots in 1.08 and have not noticed anything like this.

I'm reluctant to fiddle with drivers, since I have no problem writing TGA files from Photoshop.

I want to examine the bad TGA file's contents and compare them to a normal good file.

Here's an example. The problem is occurring on the write of the image, not its display, since bringing it up in Photoshop shows the same problem.

Are the mission screenshots affacted by the screenshot format CVAR? If so, does changing that CVAR change the skewing?

It might be a simple "mispadding", if every line is a few pixels too short, you get that effect.

It appears that this is a screen resolution issue.

I have a 1360x768 TV that I use for my monitor.

The following TDM screen resolutions produce the following results for savegame images:

1 - 16:9, 1366x768 = skewed

2 - 16:9 TV, 1360x768 = skewed

3 - 16:10, 1024x600 = good

4 - 5:4, 1280x1024 = good

5 - 4:3, 1024x768 = good

Another odd thing is that the first four settings above were all painted inside a window that filled the screen. Fullscreen was OFF in all cases. While I would have expected that for settings 1 and 2, I wasn't expecting it for settings 3 and 4.

Setting 5 painted inside a window that looked like the correct size (smaller than the full screen).

I didn't try any other settings.

Could someone try settings 1 and 2 to see if you're seeing this problem?

Good (or bed, depending) news, it happens for me in fullscreen, on 1360x768, too:

Have not tried any other resolutions, my native 16:10 resolution (1920x1200) is fine.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
