Hi there,

I've tried to create a custom elevator for my current WIP. However, while the elevator is behaving normal, it has a very weird bug.

If I'm on the upper floor and move downwards on it, my view starts shaking, and if I'm on the lower floor and tell the elevator to move upwards, I just fell through it.

Never seen this behaviour before, and tried some fixes, like a clip textured fs_brush below the elevator, bound to it. Nothing worked so far.

Bloody, fixed it.

The problem was that I used the upper part of the elevator as actuall mover_elevator entity, and bound the lower rest where the player stands on to it. Now I use the platform where the player stands on as mover_elevator entity, and it works as suppossed.

Yippie.

Sounds like quite an experience.

This is a typical behaviour you get due to the way doom 3 physics work. I used a whole lot of models for the elevator, so it is not one entity, but several ones all bound to the actual mover. I guess the problem was caused by the way entities that are bound to others are moved if the entety they are bind to is moved. So if the elevator is not the platform the player or an ai is standing on while moving, it may not notice that someone stands on it and has to be moved, too. Just a guess, though.

I posted about it before, but I think the default tdm logo video looks outdated. For a (i.m.o.) better looking version, you can download the pk4 attached to this post and plonk it in your tdm root folder. Every mission that starts with the tdm logo then starts with the better looking one. Try for example mission COS1 Pearls and Swine.

I finished DOOM - The Dark Ages the other day. It is a decent shooter, but not as great as its predecessors, especially because of the soundtrack.
