Spiders are difficult to move

Spiders are a strange lot in TDM. After you kill them, they stick to the floor. It is difficult to pick them up or even move them in the grapper. They aren't shoulderable, so -essentially- they cannot be moved at all once they are dead.

 

I played a mission, where a spider goes in front of a door the player needs to pass. I shot the big spider in front of the door and unfortunately, the spider blocked the door. Since it could not be easily moved, the door was blocked and I almost had to noclip. Luckily I got it loose after a long while of fiddling and dragging from various directions, and I got the door open just enough so I could slip by.

 

Should spiders be shoulderable? I know there is no gameplay purpose why someone would like to carry a spider around, but the ability to move the critters would eradicate this kind of situations where doors or other important things get blocked.

 

Should I scribble a bug report?

In the meantime, mappers could adjust the mass of the AI (with grabable & frobable set), right? Then the ragdoll should be more easily moved. Or could adjusting the mass of the AI mess up pathfinding in any way?

I'm thinking of a scenario where the player could pick up a dormant spider (make it ko'able or sleeping?), and place it in an area with enemy AI. Then, somehow, the player wakes the spider(s) up and kicks back and watches the melee which ensues.

Hmmm... special delivery. Spider-in-a-box. The player delivers a crate which, upon opening by AI, releases a live "pet" killer spider. :)

The spider ragdoll has always been weird. I've never been able to solve the issue of them floating either.

 

Also I noticed there are no option to file bugs against TDM2.0, I filed this one against 1.08. Need the 2.0 option to the list.

 

You should file it for 2.01.

      tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

      I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.
