Using info_location for objectives?

I've never used info_location for objectives before, and there's nothing specific in the wiki about it. I'd like to use it for a typical, "player must go here" objective. I can't get it to work though.

Anyone know how this works or a map that uses it I could look at?

The 'player must go here' objective doesn't use locations typically, it uses the player entering a special kind of brush, and there's a separate tutorial on that. I really don't think there's anything in the location system specifically for objectives, since neither me nor Tels added anything like that.

If I wanted to use a location anyway, my first instinct would be to use its 'call script on entry' and have a script fulfill the objective directly somehow. Seems the easiest way.

Edit: In the wiki for the Objectives Editor under the section "How to directly trigger an objective or component to complete", it describes how to directly trigger an objective with a custom script.

Basically, create the entity "target_tdm_setobjectivestate" with the property/value "obj_idN O" (where O is the objective number and N is simply the obj_id number if you want several on the same entity), and then have the location-called script trigger or activate that entity. You enter the location, script runs, entity triggers, then it fulfills the objective upon being triggered.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

There is an "Item is in info_location" option in the objectives editor. Does it not work? If not, we should get rid of it, since:

The most common error with the exit objective is using the 'in info_location' component rather than the 'in location' component.

To save me headaches, can someone confirm that objectives are supposed to work when the map files is run from the console?

If it's really broken, imo it'd be better to bug fix it, since it should be easy to make work & is admittedly convenient.

It's possible it works and I just set it up incorrectly. I haven't been able to find any info on how to properly set it us, hence the OP.

You can check old habits or builder roads, I've used this kind of objective in both of them. The second one may be more suitable for investigating as it is smaller.

Mapping and Scripting: Apples and Peaches

Sculptris Models and Tutorials: Obsttortes Models

My wiki articles: Obstipedia

Hey @nbohr1morehow come the zombies in The Dark Mod don't have a "resurrection" mechanic to it, similar to how Thief has it?
They're quite a weak creature as of right now, it's merely a walking corpse that slashes you, making attacking them to kill them an actual strategy.
Would be better if they had some cool mechanism to it that truly makes them a danger, such as the resurrection idea itself.

Query: when was the last time a zombie in a video game was unnerving or scary to you? I'm chipping away at my anniversary submission and I've been trying to gather opinions on the subject. I'm perfectly capable of lighting them well, changing their sfx, and creating effective ambience, but I'm worried that zombies at their core are just too overdone to be an effective payoff to the tension I'm creating.

Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.
