I came across this site: https://www.rijksmuseum.nl/en

They offer incredible quality pictures of art.
I emailed them about including their images free of charge under CC license and they replied with:

Dear XXXXX,

The Rijksmuseum provides images in the public domain free of charge. These images can be used freely for all purposes, also commercial, and are CC0-licensed. You can search for images on our website: www.rijksmuseum.nl. Please mention the source: Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. High image quality is very important to the Rijksmuseum. We continually adapt our files to the latest quality standards, so please always order the latest version and avoid reusing old files. You can use the order form on our website: https://www.rijksmuseum.nl/en/photoservice, to order images. We urge you not to download files from our website, if you intend to use them for publication or commercial purposes. You may use the image free of charge, but in these difficult times, we would appreciate any support you might like to contribute. You can donate to the Rijksmuseum by clicking here.

They are pretty amazing quality, just for testing I made one with a pretty picture and threw it in the game.

They have a ton of stuff that would fit our time period I think.

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

I see, only issue I can see is that the few I tried downloading are really small. 512x638 isn't good enough.

Sorry, I didn't think of that. What is a good minimum resolution? But yeah it's not really comparable to what Rijksmuseum offers (although Rijksmuseum also shares on that site).

Edit: For what it's worth: https://www.vangoghmuseum.nl/en/about/organisation/terms-and-conditions/use-and-permissions-of-collection-images (these are not low quality images I think)

You can use also Pixabay, there are more than 1 millon of images in HD, free with Public Domain license, also vectors, videos, soundfiles and music.

To make it easier, you can add Pixabay also to your search engines

https://pixabay.com/images/search/?q=%s&hp=&order=&cat=&min_width=&min_height=

PS. Downloads are 100% free, but only up to your screen resolution, for full HD 4k and avoid the reCaptcha before Download, you need a free account (Nick, mail, password).

Also Unsplash is a good option

More you find in the National Galery of Art, they have released 45000 paintings for the free download

Where does it say it is open source? Where is the source?

I dom't use it, i found it here with the filter set to OpenSource. the TOS and PP isn't excluding for an OpenSource app, if they use ads mean that they also need to pay an server for this online service. OpenSource is not synonymous with free either, perhaps after the beta phase it is no longer free, so perhaps you can take advantage of the fact that it is still free to create a series of textures that can be used or search another one in Futuretools. AI generated textures and assets, by definition, don't have any copyright, so you can use them as you want.

You got that because you selected free and open source, so it lists both free and open source together. If you select only open source, you don't see it.

Interesting site btw.

Yes, because i think that mostly a free app o service is interesting for TDM, and not all OpenSource is free to use, eg, if it is an online service, it can be OpenSource, but the server has a cost. ProtonMail and ProtonVPN are OpenSource, but free versions are limited, amount of Data in the Mail and amount of servers in the VPN., creating incommings with its Premium services.

Another site with AI Tools is

https://www.futurepedia.io, there the filtring is somewhat different

Taking a break to alleviate burnout. In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have jumped into a map-making contest so quickly after just finishing another project and especially with my busy schedule, but I do believe I have something that the community will enjoy. No clue if I'll be able to finish it on time for the competition if I factor in a break, but I'd rather take my time and deliver something of quality rather than engage in development crunch or lose part of the map's soul to burnout.
