If you were head of the creative team creating a new Thief game: what would the new game be like?

I always thought he had some feelings for Victoria. How can you fall in love with another human if you did with a spirit / goddess once? 😁

Seriously. Am I the only one who noticed some sort of.. caring.. Just before "the incident in the cathedral"?

I totally agree, with the caveat that at that point in the story I don't think Garrett was ready to entertain a serious relationship with anyone. (Regardless of the major chemistry obviously going on between those characters.)

In all the Thief games, but T2 most of all, G is in survival mode, which he does by trying to detach himself from all reactive emotion and external allegiance. Retreating completely into himself. A huge part of the brilliance of those 3 stories is that characterization, because in each game he tries to detach and there are always points where his detachment breaks down. Little climaxes where his true nobility or vulnerability shines through. It's only at the end of the third game that he, and he alone of all the Keepers, properly figures it out: the essence of balance is detachment... not from the world, but from oneself.

If Victoria had survived, G definitely would have pursued a relationship with her during and after the third game. Probably it would be a rather untamed, chaotic affair, but fun to speculate about for sure, and I think they could eventually work out some sort of stable arrangement. Maybe a bridge-between-worlds sort of deal like Ashitaka and San at the end of the movie Princess Mononoke.

As things happened instead, I think I agree with the contention that Garrett would have great difficulty ever kindling a similar connection to any mortal woman. I don't think its impossible though, particularly after G properly settles into his role as a sage of balance, post TDS. It would be a journey for him and not something I think could be handled well off-screen as it were. Might be fun fodder for some FMs though...

Hell, back to topic, that in itself might be a fun spiritual/actual sequel concept. Play alternating missions as a cynical night blade pagan woman, and a saw-way-too-much-sh** and-totally-over-everything city thief turned yogi mystic. They reluctantly team up, rib each other, save each other from perils, stop an apocalypse, and finally discover to their surprise they are in love.

I was thinking about the new gameplay in next Thief game because I think it should be improved along A.I.

I would like Thief has blunt arrows which he can shoot first guard in the below knee area. Thief shoots from the dark shadow so he's not seen. Guard tumbles down, then stands up and he sees second guard and thinks the guard pranked him with the blunt arrow.

This could lead to intense gameplay and funny dialogue.

G#1: "You shot me with the arrow."

G#2: "No I didn't."

G#1: "But we're the only ones in the room."

Garret is in the shadows and yellow is vision cone of the first guard who tumbled down.

I mentioned this in a similar thread on TTLG. If there's going to be a new Thief game, my vote is for a remake of the original Dark Project.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

Instead of remakes of excellent old games, why not remake bad games? Surely there must be stealth games that had an interesting premise or a cool setting but, for whatever reason, fell flat. They might be worth taking a second shot at.

My missions:           Stand-alone                                                      Duncan Lynch series

Down and Out on Newford Road              the Factory Heist

                                                                                                  A House Call

                                                                                                  The House of deLisle

From a econimic point of view, that rather seems like suicide though. The "classics" are remade, because they have a good name, not a bad one.

Anyway, even a remake of Thief is completely unrealistic. There's the issue of a company holding the IP, there's the issue of stealth games not being exactly popular these days, there's the issue of having to cater to a completely different target audience etc. etc. I can't see it happen, not even in the next 20 years.

I still love to play the originals. Nothing wrong with them. ;) I actually think they have the edge over TDM, gameplay wise. There's also the matter of consistency. TDM missions are pretty diverse, depending on the mission author. Not just style wise, but, also gameplay wise. The original Thief's are obviously much more consistent. Whenever I start the original Thief's after a while of only playing TDM, it's sort of coming home.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
