The readable about the thief having failed his task makes me think that neither of the "other" characters are supposed to succeed in their respective missions.

Spoiler

That is true for the thief, but the same isn't implied for the other two characters, at least from what I found. If you play as one you find the other two as AI in the world, which is a fantastic idea at that. However only the thief is dead due to the spider incident... the assassin and saboteur are always wandering in the hallways, which implies they're both actively conducting their respective missions.

That was what I wanted to convey. The saboteur walks round like the maniac he is. The assassin can be found looking at doors and casually looking inside windows... The thief is just dead, bitten and wound up in a pile.

Yes, that's what I was thinking. I wonder if a few changes to the saboteur character could be done when playing as the assassin, as to not imply your work as that character was for nothing... unless that silly aspect is more desirable so you find out you killed someone yourself for no reason? Like a note in Rupert's room implying he saw how nice the ship is and had a change of heart, or him having gotten drunk and passed out and forgetting to do his mission :D

Am enjoying playing as Thief.  Though I haven't tried to comply with the optional 'no knock-outs' objective.

Two questions.

  1. Where is the key to the helmsman's safe?

  2. Is there a way of releasing the spider?

The last part of this fragmented review ( 3/3 ); Ol' Zach got itchy itchy fingers - but could not take the heat in the kitchen.

If you thought the previous parts were EASY; play as the thief!

You are trapped in a enclosed space - with MANY wandering (hostile) NPCs, luckily the guards are quite disorganized - even a random walk supplies trouble soon enough, even for the most ghostly shadows...Even quick-save spam won't save you always, keep sets of saves when you really need to back-out of a unwinnable spot. Its truely the nature of this map, by design - and would be worse with smarter, better communicating AIs.

...I've NEVER had to 'bail' on a mission before. A first. Worthy challenge to those veteran taffers who've seen/done/looted much. Rating: Play it, if you DARE.

Spoiler

I wonder - it would have been neat to have a 2nd 'thief', say stuck in a crate you could release - and later when they are caught; have the crew/passengers calm down...yes, a very complex script routine to write; just an idea...any kind of distraction to the hornets swarm would have been a boon.

The preliminary working titles for the missions in my now-in-development Partners in Crime series:
      - Partners in Crime 1: A Mere Trinket
      - Partners in Crime 2: Beacon Burglary
      - Partners in Crime 3: In the Bleak Midwinter
      - Partners in Crime 4 (5 ?): Fishy Dealings
      - Partners in Crime 5 (4 ?): A Thief in the Night

No title stealing, please.  In return, I promise to finish these. I do stress the preliminary part. Beyond the broad strokes storyline, plot, objectives, briefings and the (currently built) layouts of these FMs, I haven't fully decided about every single detail yet, including the exact order of the missions (4 and 5 might switch places, with the story adjusted accordingly). I want the overall plot to be plotted out a bit in advance and not suffer too much from inserting prequels later. I also prefer to let my FM building fill out part of the details naturally.

Currently working on the second FM, and once I do enough work on the current prototype, I'll work on the first one, until I get that one released. Then complete the second one, get that one ready for release (hopefully) a few months later, and so on. I want most of the early missions to be fairly small and confined, and get a bit bigger as I grow more confident in my FM making skills.

Though there is an overarching storyline to this series, the missions themselves are mostly episodic in nature. They factor into the character development of the two main characters I'll have in the series, but it's the kind of continuity where the mission's own plot and story wouldn't depend on it.
