  1. I wanted to talk about the more interesting 'Replacement' alternative ending. Which I would not have been aware of if I had not read this thread, and watched a YouTube video. Which I understand is achieved by: I appreciate this is a totally optional ending. But having missed it the first time around, there was a sense of achievement when I did manage it. Should I have worked this out for myself? This is just me talking out loud, and by no means a criticism of the set-up for the Replacement ending. Having first come across the 'Hat Collector', it was clear there was some scope for humour in the mission. And so in my first pass through the mission, I thought the Note was just the Authors 'having a laugh' (as the Brits say). But thinking about it further, that doesn't make total sense. It would be more humorous if the safe-within-the-safe was inside a Bank. Where you would expect to find serious treasure, so it would be more of a unexpected leg-pull not to find any treasure or money. But there is an incongruity in finding it in a Bakery. For a start you would only expect to find a locked cashbox in a Bakery, not a full-blown safe. Let alone a safe-within-a-safe. So should I take that as a message that things should not be taken at face value? Or am I just thinking about this too deeply?!
  2. Enjoyable, particularly the unexpected guy with the glowing eyes at the end. There was nothing in the opening briefing that suggested there could be anything 'supernatural' in this mission, so it was - from a narrative point of view - slightly jarring. Or was the total unexpectedness totally intentional? As in "no one expects the Spanish Inquisition"? How did the guy with the eyes get from upstairs down to the sewers? Did he walk through the locked door at the top of the sewer stairs?
  3. Okay I finally got to the end of this mission, with some help. Though at just under 5000 loot, I clearly missed some stuff/areas. A great mission, and I could happily spend a lot of time just watching the leaves fall. (Er, but what about missions not set in the fall/autumn?) Some very minor comments/queries about Objectives. Is there are difference between the Tourist / Native / Exile Difficulties, since they all have the same Objectives? Eg Number of Guards, Alertness of Guards, etc. (There are a number of other Missions with identical Objectives, where I wish this was spelt out.) I would personally wish for a Loot Total Objective, even if optional. Otherwise why am I picking up all this money/valuables? Okay its The Dark Mod, and I'm psychologically incapable of not picking up stuff, but still. I was surprised not to get a New Objective of "Collect all 6 relic fragments" when I found my first Relic Fragment. Again an optional Objective, in the context of this mission. But it would've been helpful. Likewise I was surprised not to get an optional Cat New Objective, when I first visited the 'Memorial to Seren'. Again that would've been helpful.
  4. Thanks for all who responded to my 'Curio's back door' query - I don't think I read all the latest posts before my last message(!)
  5. Reveal hidden contents werner Thanks, but I need a bit more. I have seen references to that location in this thread, but have not been able to find how to get there.
  6. This thread has been very useful to me for solving: The cat thing The hat collector safe combination The bakery safe combination The sealed door in the lift shaft A relic piece I was missing. Could someone give me a hint for where I need to look, to find the chalice please? Many thanks.
  7. Wellingtoncrab: Please tell me what you wish me to do, above and beyond what I have done.
  8. Down in the mines, when you get through the double doors that need to open, there's a courtyard with a big leaning tree. If you climb up to the top of the courtyard you get the view below. I like the way he is holding a cigar. I presume this is just for fun?
  9. Started this the other day. Looks gorgeous. Nicely difficult, and little extras to be found for the OCD explorer (like me).
  10. Enjoyed. Very minor comments on rooms, just to provide feedback. a) Rooms generally well sized (often these are oversized, for no good reason). b) Stairs were excessively wide. c) Kitchen possibly oversized. Though if the stairs were less wide, the kitchen would then be smaller(!) d) The kitchen ceiling is the same wooden panelling you use throughout. It should probably be something more basic, being back-of-house. And finally a comment on the safe combination. I found: But even if I hadn't found the second item, I would have So the second item isn't really necessary.
  11. Just out of ignorant curiosity, why is this small mission file size as much as 83Mb (according to https://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Fan_Missions_for_The_Dark_Mod) That is more typical of a medium-sized mission.
  12. I liked the challenge of how to get from the church basement into the caves. Initially there doesn't seem a way forward, but there was a logic of where the entrance was likely to be. Because in a well-designed mission there is a point to everything(!)
  13. Okay. After a holiday break I've come back to this, loaded Version 2, etc. And I've killed the zombie in one stroke. Yay. Er, but how does that help me?! Don't I still have to do the whole swinging-on-the-ropes thing?
  14. I am unable to kill the zombie with one blow of the sword (takes me three). But as soon as the first blow lands - without the zombie turning to face me - I am 'discovered', and therefore lose. Any advice please?
  15. Before I could get anywhere on Room 1, I had to turn down the 'AI hearing' setting to 2/4. That - for me - made things playable but still challenging. Am currently starting Room 3. I appreciate the Intro tells me I can go into Settings and adjust difficulty settings. But I would've preferred the more traditional Easy/Medium/Hard settings to choose from. I know having 7 Difficulty options to adjust provides flexibility, but it took me a while to work out which I should adjust to make it work for me.
