  1. How to design a not-very-good Doom level. Pack fifty high-tier monsters into a small hallway where the only way to fight them is to lower a lift that brings one or two down at a time. The player is stuck slaying them until boredom sets in. Of course he can take the lift up, but then he gets ripped a new one, emerging in the middle of the pack with no room to dodge.

Could the player get them to fight each other? At least in the original Doom (1993) it was possible to lure baddies to fight each other, which was hilarious.

Hooray and congrats! I've not touched my computer for months now. Might be a good excuse to start reserving time for a little bit of gaming now..

Dammit! I do not spend much time in YouTube anymore, but I've actually watched some of his videos.

May he rest in peace. Thanks for sharing the information.

Observing the impermanence of everything makes one appreciate more everything that is being served to us in this life.

Please immediately take a moment of gratitude for your continued existence. Thank you!

Good! But I read it is only a temporary victory.

  10. So another strife for next year is whether Israel gets to host Eurovision?

    1. Sotha

      Sotha

One thing I sometimes like to mention to foreigners is that they have arrived to a country that participated in the Eurovision with a song, which chorus roughly translates to "ass against ass, bang bang, there is something to it." I suppose we have improved a bit since '76.. ;)

We finns always lose in Eurovision song contest, so I guess we don't care to participate in bitter disagreements. ;)

It is good to always lose.

  12. Testing my latest ship, when a sailor in pursuit of me stumbles down the gangplank and is knocked out. Bug or feature?

      Sotha

Did you hear the studio audience applaud? If so, a feature.

  13. As I have been getting a few requests for vocals recently I just wanted to inform everyone that I am no longer doing vocals for any project regardless of whether it's related to thief/tdm. I plan on fulfilling my old agreements but after they're done then that's it from me.

Oh well, impermanence is the only constant in life.

A big and warm thank you for everything you did! You rock, man!

  14. I am now an official member of the Tinitus club, and It sucks. I have trouble sleeping on that side, because I hear faint "ringing" in the ear. Lower the volume before this happens to you too.

I also have three small kids, and sometimes when they play too loudly indoors, I seek silence with industrial earmuffs. Good purchase, even though the wife disapproves, for some bizarre reason... =D

No tinnitus here. I guess my weakness has saved me. I don't like loud noises at all and tend avoid them. I do not go to movie theaters anymore because last time I went, I had my ears ringing the whole evening. Luckily it went away. I've also removed myself from some outside events that had live music on unbearable volume. Just couldn't take it. Nowadays, I usually take ear plugs with me to outside events, just in case they try to ruin it with too loud music.

  17. Not really TDM-related, but I have just released a RPG fanzine: http://beyondfomalhaut.blogspot.hu/2018/03/zine-echoes-from-fomalhaut-01-now.html

Dammit, I had to check what "fanzine" is, I am so anachronistic.

Making that sort of stuff is surely very enjoyable. Best of luck!

Do you have an established base of people who will read it? I loved to do stuff like that when I was running my JPG group... but I doubt anyone would be willing to pay $$$ for it, sadly.

You are alive! I noticed the last time we heard about you here was only few moments before that wretched terrorist truck attack in Stockholm and then there was a long silence afterwards. What a relief, glad you are okay, mate!

  22. By the way, I know some people mentioned improving lighting skills, and I finally found an article that actually discusses some of the theory behind lighting that I can comprehend: http://www.blog.radiator.debacle.us/2015/03/lighting-theory-for-3d-games-part-2.html

I think he says mostly obvious things... but might be a good read to a person new to mission design.

Sometimes I wish a geomagnetic disaster would disable all electronics and we could get back to simpler times... And then I snap out of it and am content I do not need to shoot flares at wolves at every turn.

  24. I wish we had more of small bite-size FMs. I realized I don't have time to play grand multihour missions anymore... But nice 0.5-1h (1h max!) missions would fit perfectly to my evening schedule.

    1. Sotha

      Sotha

...and the bonus is that bite size is much less taxing for the mapper to make. Bakery job was 6h and plays something like 15-20 mins, so maybe a 12 to 24 creation time would be optimal. That is about one month of mapping assuming 1h mapping per day. (Assuming experienced mapper working with modules.) Not a bad contribution at all.
