  1. Red Orchestra 2 solved the peripheral vision problem with dots/glittering points on the edges of the screen if something of attention is within that field. Many shooters do that actually and it's reasonable enough. Enable-able as a setting. So that they could toggle it off if they want to make the UI as minimalistic as possible. But only if the thing with player shadows gets implemented anyway. I don't expect it until better 3'rd person animations which won't make the shadow look from uncanny valley.
  2. ArmA games. Especially ArmA 3. But it costs a lot of money. Lots of animation. So there you go - the answer on a plate.
  3. I think it's intended this way for reasons that TDM doesn't have third person perspective as Thief Deadly Shadows had. Therefore it's quite irrelevant. If anyone gets to making animations in third person for the PC (player character) then it's another story. But that means climbing, mantling animations et cetera, et cetera. Quite a wave of work. And there's seldom animators working for extensive periods of time on free projects AFAIK and they never were available anywhere when in demand.
  4. VR makes everything better:
  5. Without backtracking the race and nation topic, the democracy take is weird. Nobody says direct democracy works. That's why populism is blamed. All referendums this year failed in Europe. Is it really not obvious that direct democracy can work only on minor issues like in Switzerland or in relation to a highly educated society? That's why we came up with representative democracy in the first place.
  6. Better then seeing those thoughts in action. Or else my name wouldn't be RODION RASKOLNIKOV!
  7. "The show must go on." - Freddy Mercury
  8. Similarities they may be. The real inspiration was Strugatsy brothers - "Гадкие Лебеди" and "За миллиард лет до конца света". I don't know if there are any translations available. J.G. Ballard's "High-Rise" too. More info can be found from various interviews and on the kickstarter page too maybe.
  9. And you have an answer from stogatilov on the bug tracker.
  10. That's what all greenlit titles could get in the end. Unless something changes, that's the plan. The idea is to have TDM on 2.06 by then. First impressions matter. The current version and its faults were detailed in older reviews:

  12. The UP is discussed on Steam often. Just like CQM. TDM has been greenlit on Steam, therefore when it's done it gets a spotlight on Steam, sanctioned by the powers that be. TDM is not talked about on the Doom 3 board because TDM is standalone for a few years, so there's just no need. Besides most people playing Doom 3 are interested in shooting stuff Killing Floor stuff. Not about convoluted modifications. Genres like stealth and strategy games were, are and in the foreseeable future a niche. That's exactly what I meant, new FM's with their options of walkthroughs and ways to find secrets are new maps and new features in and of themselves. For example check out Moonbo's FM"s. I'm sure that such dedication and level of quality warrants a special honorable mention. And many, many others. To me both Bloodlines and TDM lack good animation from 3'rd person. Like, some people I know refuse outright to play Bloodlines because close combat is not available in first person. And vice versa, lots of people would love TDM in third person like Thief Deadly Shadows. But, with limited human resources sacrifices have to be made to get realistic and achievable goals so everything's fine.
  13. Though I'm not much in the thematic of this - If you're looking for music alike in Deus Ex you may look no further then at abandonware/freeware tracks from Command & Conquer 2: Tiberian Sun:
  14. I don't know how many people use those special tools that already exist. For example, who uses mines/spy balls? Is it justifiable? This effort would be much better spent at improving existing animations. And it's a huge and hard effort in any game. It's no surprise TDM didn't make it in the top 100 because there hasn't been much to show really. 2.06 will be different. Moreover a lot of modds on Moddb have a good community on Steam or other platforms. I.e. Bloodlines Unofficial Patches would never get popular if there wouldn't be a compact community on Steam with guides on how to install, use, walkthroughs and so on. And there you have a modification that rivals in longevity with Deus Ex mods. Dishonored just has a better animation system and a good fencing mechanic. Every layman ignoring stealth will appreciate that. No wonder considering Doom 3 and its engine were conceived as an FPS and not a Dark Messiah of Might & Magic. But c'est la vie.
  15. I respect your work on Bloodlines, but there's not much to add to TDM except refine what exists already. Reinvesting the bicycle is no use. Only riding it. After all EAX now should work (openal). Potentially better performance. The only thing is having a community that comes with new FM's and new content - music, sound, assets. That's what matters. Maybe we're boring people but that's how I see it.
  16. Outlooker, on 16 Dec 2017 - 2:06 PM, said: I would beg to differ. Absolute perfection can be totally fake and doll type of girls are repulsive from the aspect of pure animal, instinctual desirability, for alas they lack the necessary qualities to be parents. On the contrary, slightly hairy yet muscular, developed women legs indicate better proneness to survival, adaptation and effort for the continuity of the human species and a better reliability as potential parent. Nylon stockings as a currency is no rarity in times of catastrophe. During crisis all logic is turned off and this wouldn't be the best example in sociology of human behaviorism IMHO. But your argument concerning paintings was good.
  17. It's supposed to go into effect within 1 year. But until then many things can change.
  18. I mean that things will get better for TDM in the future. Win on Moddb or no win on Moddb.
  19. If you're afraid - buy a Glock 19 and learn how not to shoot yourself in the foot. For the purposes of concealed carry. Everybody knows the police does nothing. And on this note... This a self defense issue concerning everyone: http://www.slate.com/articles/life/dispatches/2015/07/i_was_attacked_on_the_d_c_metro_no_one_helped_me.html
