  1. In many cases, watching the latch on the lock is just as helpful as listening. As long as the mapper sets it up properly, it's an audio or visual procedure. I've intentionally turned off the sound to see if I could use the latch movements, and it's totally possible.
  2. Anyone tried dropping him a line lately? I can see about reaching out to him on Facebook. - Actually, I noticed they haven't posted anything on Facebook since November. But he has posted since then, so hopefully everything is alright.
  3. Unreal I suspect. Wouldn't be very cost effective to start over with a new engine for the sequel.
  4. I hope they allow the player to disable all 3rd person in this one. I really disliked how it changed perspectives in HR.
  5. I find Gimp to be rather wretched to work with for most things. I really want to like it but the interface is far too clumsy and clunky for my liking.
  6. Like I said, TDM has its own exe now...it's no longer simply a mod package running within D3, it is a separate engine.
  7. Atomic. TDM runs on a highly modified executable now. It doesn't use any of the old Doom 3 AI scripting, our AI were all moved into the code base. I would be very surprised if it did more than burp if you tried to make it run on the D3.exe.
  8. Only if the mapper used an insanely high setting. I had suggested a spawnarg to allow for additional lights like this to be adjusted since situations like this came up in the original Thief games too. The mappers in T3 for example were able to give some of their ambient lights use for set dressing a 'weight' on the light gem. So if needed, they could turn a light up slightly and then dial back it's effect on the lightgem...just so a particular area wouldn't be too hard.
  9. As nbohr1more pointed out, the 4GB patch is no longer needed since it is incorporated into the mod source. Are you using an ATI/AMD card? There are some fixes coming to their drivers soon that should help improve performance a bit.
  10. So since steam works has to be integrated into the mod, that would prevent us from going that route anyway is what you're saying.
  11. So you're saying we should completely abandon one of the nicest features in the Mod, the ingame downloader? It's not an all or nothing situation. I don't think Steam should be used for anything more than the deliver the 'core' mod to users. After that, updates and FM fetching would be downloaded by the mod itself.
  12. Well, the admins at TTLG don't feel that way. TDM missions belong wherever the admins feel they belong. We had originally asked to have our own sub-forum for TDM missions at TTLG, but as it turns out the majority of forum users expected our missions to be in the Thief FM's forum. So the admins merged them back. Don't know what the haters comment is about, because nobody is hating on anyone.
  13. ...and if I recall, it was also a requested feature. In any case motorsep, Steam is being considered as an additional distribution for the core mod...not as a replacement system. I don't see how never leaving the game to download missions is messy.
  14. The missions can't really be 'released' though. They're available through the ingame downloader. They can be announced.
  15. I wish they had tried Dark Mod. I had mentioned it to Tim Stellmach in an email exchange we had a year or two ago and he seemed quite interested in trying it.
  16. New Horizon

    Thief 4

Exactly. It was no secret that that game was in a very buggy state late into development.
  17. New Horizon

    Thief 4

I think we were all aware that there were sections like that in the game, the problem is that the developers decided to keep disrupting the natural flow of Thief type play by getting in the way to 'show' us something. It was ridiculous. All I wanted the game to do while I played it was leave me alone and stop pestering me. For a game that was presumably supposed to be Thief, it was a horrid experience.
  18. I think it depends on whether or not there is a lot of invasive Steam code to add, or any type of restrictions placed on us by Steam, if there is none of that then I suspect we would be happy to use Steam.
  19. None of the maps in either videos were real. :)Just mockups of partial locations specifically for the trailers. I faked all the knockout stuff in the second one with trigger volumes, or something like that. lol Just a little marketing magic.
  20. Aren't these the same videos you posted last year?
  21. I don't see why not. Create the basic skeleton of the map layout with it and then open it in DR to do the major detailing.
  22. Same as Spring. I answered the call when Fingernail posted about it back in 2004. I sometimes forget that we had a beginner forum where all our first discussions took place. Don't remember the address for it at all.
  23. Yes, the 3rd person model is completely separate from the 1st person hands.
  24. No, suing because hot coffee burned you is stupidity...in my opinion...but when a company markets something as one thing when it is not, that deserves to be rectified.
