  1. My personal preference is Mageia. I recommend using live disks first. Download and burn a few different live distros... mint, k/ubuntu, mageia, etc. Try each one and decide which you prefer.
  2. And then there's this... with 2x 40mm drivers and 1x 30mm "vibration unit" per ear cup. http://www.roccat.org/Products/Gaming-Sound/ROCCAT-Kave-XTD-5-1-Digital/
  3. $0.02 from me... If sheet models were made to fit existing furniture, then continuous story lines with existing maps could be easy. What I mean is... In one mission, the player enters an inhabited mansion, with lights, clean and polished furniture, etc. Then in a future mission, or later part of the same mission, the mansion could be run-down, abandoned or for sale, with the furniture covered, or full of cobwebs and dusty, etc. In such a case it would be nice to be able to add fitted sheets to existing furniture. Else it would be easier to add a simple shaped-sheet model to a new map. If the new sheet models were made to fit existing models with the same origin(without legs showing below the sheet), then they could potentially replace those models already in a map simply by assigning the same origin/rotation values as the original model.
  4. I think I know how to distract the guards... ... I passed out last night, lol, will try again for tonight.
  5. Quite literally, on Mork and Mindy
  6. Lockner... couldn't help but to think Loc Nar Will play it tonight.
  7. Would these be sheets by themselves in various shapes, to be added over existing models. Or various models of shaped sheets with various wooden legs sticking out the bottom? Either way it's a good idea and would save the pain of making it out of patches with all the various folds and creases necessary to make it look good.
  8. Just to clarify... you said that the beer gets you entertainment for 10 minutes. Are you referring to 10 minutes of drinking/tasting/savoring time for 1 (unit of beer volume in a vessel of some sort) beer? Or are you referring to 10 minutes being the time of the overall enjoyment of the beer, including the effects after drinking? If that's the case, you need to buy better beer
  9. I'm with SteveL (and others, just read his first) on digital downloads. A few years ago, I would have insisted on having physical media. Now...not so much. It's sometimes hard to let go of what we were once used to. Do we still buy floppy disks, cassette tapes, zip disks, and other such storage medium? Generally no. Most of that media has not been manufactured in years (cassettes, like vinyl records, are on the rise again in the music world). CD and DVD disks, along with other optical medium, are almost extinct (time-wise). I mean, maybe apart from Blu-Ray videos, how many people buy CD or DVDs nowadays? More people every day are getting their music online and their movies streamed either via web, cable, or satellite. On a related note. As a Linux user, I have often had to made a few sacrifices (games) throughout the years. A few years back I bought "Age of Conan: The Hyborian Adventures", or something like that.. cost 30 or 40 bucks at the time. I tried to install it a few different times a few years ago, using wine...without much luck. A couple months ago I tried again, to great success (not knowing the game had already been released free on Steam with a new name). I had to endure many hours of downloads, updates, downloads, updates, etc., until I finally had "Age of Conan: Unchained!", which I could have installed directly through Steam via wine. That game had gone through so many changes throughout the years, with $0 being one of them, my old DVD set was useless. I wasted far too much time and bandwidth updating an old game, when I could have installed it fresh, for free. I had previously thought "Unchained" was either an add-on or a sequel to Hyborian Adventures.
  10. I thought Doom 2 was just a different .WAD file for Doom... Never knew original Doom/II could do that
  11. Funny, I had forgotten the title. Saw this thread pop up and got excited for a new map again. then I saw the screenshot and remembered last April 1.
  12. You mean like this...? http://tinyurl.com/kyewvam I have one and it's awesome. Definitely worth it. There are newer, similar models now too.
  13. LOL. I almost got a hanging ragdoll to work once...almost. Several hours were spent experimenting with which entity was bound to which, and encapsulating the ragdoll with thin nodraw_solid brushes until it didn't fall out of place (including thin shims under the armpits and crotch). The ragdoll eventually ended up twitching enough to throw the rope off angle, making it disconnect from the gallows. Lots of similar problems.
  14. You will likely need to press TAB before V, since it is an entity. Else you might not be able to move the vertices.
  15. After spending a few minutes experimenting, I can say the following item is going to be a pain in the ass to make, if you want to do it any justice.
  16. And make it a really, really long elevator shaft, with a painfully slow ascent. ...And near the lower end, put some dead walker corpses, barely visible, sealed into the ice.
  17. You could put an elevator 'inside' the wall...just an ice shaft to ride up. Then have a fog layer just below the top of the wall, in a room at the top of the elevator shaft, which would hide everything below. Similarly, have a fog layer above the castle, obscuring the (pretend) wall from view. If AI could be re-sized, you could make a dwarf, pissing off the edge.
  18. What that is doing is making the shell script (the .linux file) an executable, using the chmod command. Previous to that it was merely a text file, essentially. The last line then executes the script file. Edit: Correction, it is actually a binary, not a shell script. But it needed to be set as executable first before it would run.
  19. Can you filter all but worldspawn, zoom out, and manually select everything left? Maybe you can find/delete it then. Perhaps it's something like a spline origin...but with nothing in the entity list...? That's strange I had a similar-yet-opposite problem with the horse AI a while back. The model would not show in DR at all, but I could select its origin from the entity list. Also if I selected everything in the general area with the mouse, then the horse origin would become selected though the horse was not visible.
  20. Coin-op video games started getting very popular back when I was about 10 or 11 ('80 - '81) and I grew up with the coin-op arcades. I spent so much of my allowance on games. I'm guessing about 70% of my childhood 'allowance' (if I had one) went to coin-op games, the rest went to Snickers bars and Coke/Pepsi. I miss those arcades. Now I only see mini-arcades in mediocre pizza parlors, with games I don't like and little brats (I mean wee-tots, not teens) running all over. I miss the old arcades. I'd love to have one for adults to feel proper in, with modern and classic game options. There needs to be beer, at the least. There also needs to be coffee (not bloody Starfucks). Chinese food and pizza (both non chain/franchise) also need to be nearby. You build that near me and I'll be such a regular customer that you'll have to include me in the logo.
  21. I have tried that and mostly found it to auto-scale performance properly, and setting max performance didn't change the in-game performance...though I have heard of this working for others. One curious thing I do see with TDM, and no other game, is often TDM will start up about ~20-30fps lower than it should. I then have to exit TDM, wait about 2-3 minutes, then re-start TDM and then the frame rate will be proper. I have seen this off/on for a long time. I used to think it was a .cfg problem, but have since found that giving the GPU "a break" before launching TDM is often necessary. Maybe an issue with the vid card freeing up memory from the previous application which used it? I don't know.
  22. The 660 is now installed. I have yet to really test it, but I like it so far. Now in 1920x1200 mode, with 8x AA and 2x aniso enabled, I am getting similar frame rates to my 550ti in 1440x900 with AA and Aniso both turned off. I'll have to play with those settings to see what looks/performs best together. It did take a bit of experimenting to get TDM to get a good frame rate though. I needed to use nvidia-settings to 'override application settings' for AA and Aniso, else I got poor frame rate in either resolution, no matter if I used AA or not.
  23. I do nothing but work with computers in my day job. Been doing PC repair 6 days a week, solid, for the last 16 months. And about 5 years of IT work before that. Previous to that, I spent 21 years in kitchens. My typical day is scattered with malware/virus cleaning, hardware diagnostics, hdd upgrades/cloning, data recovery/migration, performance tuning, physical cleaning*, laptop repair (a lot), password removal, user account repair (fix temp account login), some Mac service here and there (I fucking hate the Mac UI and also hate their overpriced hardware). I once replaced the front glass on one MacbookPro and one iPad... never again...that job totally sucks. I will also clear paper jams and fix ink cartridge issues, but otherwise I refuse to repair printers too. * have cleaned: food, wine, beer, milk, dried tomato soup, dried puke, snot, blood (both dry & wet), dried saliva, dried 'unnamed-human-bodily-fluid A'♂, dried 'unnamed-human-bodily-fluid B'♀ (so far no human bodily 'solids'), hair (cat mostly, but human & dog too), fur, mouse shit, mouse nesting, spider webs, dust bound with cigarette smoke, dust bound with cannabis resin (smells far worse than it aught to), regular dust, irregular dust, lol the list goes on.
