  1. Listen, I'm not mad, scripters. Well, maybe just a little upset, but mostly bewildered.

I'm reading all these script files, and their indentation, and I'm just picturing some sort of frat party going on, where everybody is plastered, and is sometimes just making out while sitting on the spacebar.

I mean you have heard of indentation, right? ...like properly nested indentation?

...because the first time I looked at one of your script files, I was like "Oh! So this is a sort of indentation based nesting, that looks very complex now, but which I'm just going to have to learn.".

...but no. Apparently this is obfuscation that makes every script look like "ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn".

    Why?

    Just why?

The allegory of a frat party with making out while sitting on the spacebar doesn't strike me as "delicate", to name one example.

It's probably an incompatibility between the program used to write the script and the program you use to view it.

For me the indentation is also screwed up when I use Notepad rather than Visual Studio to open C++ files.

  3. I've tried to update to 2.10 from 2.09 with the TDM updater but fails to update saying my installation is up to date, first time this has happened in many years of using the updater. So I guess I need to install a fresh new version which is unfortunate because of all the in game settings which will be lost with a new installation. There is a keybinds config file which I'll backup but don't know which files to back up for other in game settings

  4. I find it alarming that 5 missions with 2.10-only elements take 15% of space among all 158 released missions.

It might be worth to launch an initiative to merge new custom content with the core assets.

  5. The final solution for low-end GPUs:

    r_skibSubviews 1

    r_skipInteractions 1

    r_shadows 0

    r_ambientMinLevel 0.6

    tdm_lg_interleave  0

If you don't get 60 fps after this then either your CPU is really slow or it's a map bug

EDIT. tdm_lg_interleave is probably not required since r_skibSubviews supersedes it.

Hmm... can't really be a stealth game anymore if there are no lights.

  6. I should be able to beta test some missions. Built a new 5700G + GTX 970 system.

    1. Dragofer

      Dragofer

Always a mission that needs testing these days.

  7. Now when I'm done with the Marsh FM, going back to "almost" finished submarine mission, then to "almost" (but a bit less) finished Abandoned Kingdom TDM version...

      Dragofer

How about a campaign leading from the sub to the ancient kingdom? Simply ideas.

  10. I thought there is a "hanging skeleton" model somewhere, but I cannot find it. Any ideas?

    1. Dragofer

      Dragofer

Penny Dreadful 2 has hanging humanoids near the start I believe.

  11. Feels like a month since I've touched DR, real life is so busy... If you're waiting on my next FM, I feel you, sometimes it feels I'm waiting on myself too...

    1. Dragofer

      Dragofer

Yes, unfortunately TDM mapping isn't really something you can do continuously. But once you do get back again it'll be with fresh vigour and creativity.

  12. I wish we had more of small bite-size FMs. I realized I don't have time to play grand multihour missions anymore... But nice 0.5-1h (1h max!) missions would fit perfectly to my evening schedule.

    1. Dragofer

      Dragofer

Bitesize missions seem to be quite the trend lately, with all those livestreamed speed builds and now the new mappers workshop. I have no concerns on that front.

I've been thinking for a while that the TDM community could use a thread where mapping wisdom is compiled into one place. It could contain this thread for example: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/17657-level-design-lessons-from-thief-the-dark-project/

  15. Nothing like the crackle of a fireplace, a grandfather clock ticking somewhere in the room and the sounds of the night coming through the window for getting some ambience going.

@bikerdude, what I was actually thinking of in that moment was another map. But yes, Down by the Riverside also fits that mould.

Yes, just that. Sometimes the sounds take on a life of their own.

  17. Even though the description says not to use it, will replacing a coinpurse on an AI with "atdm:prop_empty" mess anything up? the game seems to be fine so far but the description for the prop_empty was vocal about not using it.

  18. That moment when your thief starts climbing around like a sailor in the rigging of your 1:50 scale model ship.

You need to commit to common trade rules for a common trade union to function. See TTIP: if the US can sell gene-modified crops in Europe while the EU can't, then EU farmers get disadvantaged by the deal because of the difference in regulations. Also, boosting ex-USSR countries via infrastructure investments is a good thing because it expands the EU market.

Amusing when Mr. Farage states he can't guarantee that NHS will in fact get the additional £350m weekly in funding.

Brexit battle bus of Johnson claims UK sends £350m a week to EU, but in reality UK had 'renegotiated' that to 2/3rds under Thatcher, and benefits handsomely from EU funds to support British research, agriculture etc. so net cost is £120m pr. week. Talk about lies, by the presumptive future PM at that.

  23. Are there any risks to merge vertexes on patches in one? Like, taking the corners of a square patch and make a triangle?

  24. Looks like 3 omni speakers can drop fps from 26 to 4 with stuttering - if the scene is full of huge outdoor visportals.

    1. Dragofer

      Dragofer

@Xarg, I'm pleased if any mission runs 9 fps or higher on this laptop, which has begun to feel like a smooth framerate for me. Rats Triumphant/Penny Dreadful 2 run at 3-4 fps outdoors, but they're worth it :P (maybe they also have expensive audio pathfinding?)
