  2. Yo TDMers.
It has been a while.  This past year or so I have encountered some tough family issues, became a grandfather, had a job change, and then Steam offered Dishonored and Dishonored 2 along with all DLC for like 5 dollars.  So... have played that.  What a game; highly recommend.

I am looking to resume TDM activity soon.

    Clint

Tip: Uncap your FPS or even the mightiest rig will stutter

  4. Starting a playthrough of the whole Dark Mod, from oldest mission to newest. I've knocked over the first few already and about to start Living Expenses. Only ~170 missions to go!

  5. I'm back! Happy new years, TDM folks!

I brought with me a quick update for my first FM that fixes up a lot of small issues that didn't get caught in beta testing. I didn't exactly expect it to take me nearly 9 months to release a patch, but it's been a wild year to say the least. Teaching, finishing up my Master's of Education, and all manner of other events forced me to drop out of the anniversary FM contest and ate up all my time, but I'm back again in a comfortable position to start catching up on all the new FMs. I may even start work on another spooky project of greater length and difficulty in the coming year.

Thanks again for the warm welcome to the community and have a happy new year!

Welcome back! Maybe you'll be able to join a new contest later in 2025?

  6. I got myself the apple tv trial subscription. I have to say, “Foundation” (season 1) is very exciting. Shall I read the books as well?

The Foundation books are one of my favorite series. I especially like Prelude to Foundation because of it's cultural archaeology story-line. The show is quite good but heavily diverges from what's in the books.

      Woo!!!

Is this gonna make it into the 2024 release roster?

  8. Is there a thread for "Moving Day 2: Look Who's Moving Now"? If not, could someone hint me on what is Dick's birthday? This mission is quite enjoyable on its disturbing creepy implications.

  9. What is actually grammatically correct when it happens in the future? “Paul Atreides is an idiot” or ‘Paul Atreides was an idiot’? or ‘Paul Atreides will be an idiot’? The latter would at least fit in with the whole psychic and providence stuff!

Tricky but it depends on context. If the narrative states that the information "was" relayed to a listener then you treat everything that the narrator said with a past tense. If the narrator of the story is speaking directly to the listener, then "shown to be" or "proves to be" is probably best.

  10. New mission "The Imperial Sword" is now available!

  11. Apologies for the unplanned downtime. A routine upgrade did not go to plan, and the rollback had its own issues

  12. Working on an update for my mission By The Cookbook. If anyone that played it has any further bugs to report, please let me know.

I posted more details about the update in the mission thread.

      Thanks!

Yep. I tried deepbump and "material map maker". Both were worse than AwesomeBump and njob.

addnormals worked really well but I manually merged them to keep the best aspects of each. you can check it out in SVN :)

The green channel also needed inversion for TDM. ( Tested it out ). It produces an even better 3D scene than my technique (though many of the fine details where we want them are not there).

      Tutorial?

Gonna try using addnormals with my version and yours to see if we get the best of both worlds but really the proper way would be to use your version and blend in a few more details in GIMP

I was planning on shrinking all the images but I guess it's informative to have the full resolution.

  13. I sleep well at night knowing the player will never see the absolute nightmare that is my sealing brushwork outside the playable area. Only the pointfile can judge me now.

    1. nbohr1more

      nbohr1more

As I recall, the engine just optimizes away the non-sealing parts of the caulk brushwork anyway. The place to be more careful is monsterclip

  14. Somehow I admire the fact that the material from Dune has now been filmed for the third time. Personally, I could never do much with the material, but as a child of the 80s, I of course know the David Lynch movie...and that movie was at least funny! :)

Costumes and some of the set designs look more interesting in the 80s film too.

  15. Episode 3 of the second best Doom 3 mod, Phobos,  was just released.

That's more of a "Vanilla Doom 3 verses Windows 10/11" issue. Doom 3 was always a little janky with automatic hardware detection but since Window Vista ( WDDM ) driver model it barely understands what it's running on anymore and you have to get your autoexec.cfg ready to for your resolution and screen refresh rate. Dhewm3 does a better job but you can't use DLL mods with it ( there are a number of binary mods though ). ( Of course, Dhewm3 uses SDL for hardware detection so it's no wonder that it works better than Vanilla Doom 3. )
