  1. That sounds very promising for the future, so many possibilities!
  2. I really like that when cloning a brush from, say, my "Ceilings" layer, the new brush is also in that layer. What I don't like is when I clip the brush into two sections - only one of them remains in "Ceilings" and the other is put in "Default"
  3. I just upgraded to 1.2.2 yesterday (from 1.0.2, I skipped a few releases), and now DR won't remember my window size/position. It remembers my other settings, such as SplitPane view and having the Cubic clip turned off. Is there anything I can check to fix this? (BTW, I deleted my C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\DarkRadiant folder after uninstalling 1.0.2 and a new one was created upon installing 1.2.2)
  4. Yeah, the compression is a bit nasty in some darker areas. I agree that the sewers look awesome! I can't wait to explore around them, hearing distant dripping noises, sloshing through the muck. But I would suggest changing that pipe intersection that both splits and joins - I can think of no sense to it in any sane sewage or water system, so to my mind it's like "what the heck?"
  5. I think the greater issue than quality control is brand ownership, at least I have the impression of reading situations that once you knowingly allow your brand to be freely used by others and you DON'T demand they stop, you are in essence relinquishing your sole rights to the brand by that precedent, or at least making it harder to fight future brand incursions that really would be harmful. Something like that
  6. More of this stuff is already in Doom 3 than you might think (like security cams, many modern models like chairs/cups/machines/etc)
  7. He's saying Dark Mod is already released, it's too late for them to try to keep a lid on us now! If you got a wild cat in a bag, and somehow you let him out, you ain't gettin' 'im back in dere
  8. Wow, that's an obscure bug that just never got found before!
  9. I'm a 34 year old guard named Benny who tries not to jump at moving shadows while walking around on patrol routes. And I like to dance around and play with my 10 month old son named Garrett.
  10. Yes, I always keep v-sync on. You'd theoretically be getting 48, but only like 2/3 of the screen would get it and the bottom third would be cut off on the last frame due to your screen refreshing at an in-opportune moment. v-sync simply makes sure you never get that tearing, and even though it seems to "limit" your frame-rate, really it just keeps things proper looking. But for testing purposes, you'd definitely want it off so you can see exact performances like you want to test above.
  11. It's v-sync, not "strange". It's either 60, or 30, or something lower (the exact multiples depend on your monitor refresh rate, also on Doom 3's capped 60fps). So if you turn v-sync off, you'll definitely see something above 30 in those areas
  12. Thanks for the post, fascinating to hear about this revisit as you put it. I haven't played any Thief in forever myself
  13. I bought Pinnacle Game Profiler a few years back, have loved it ever since and used it for many games, playing Thief, Oblivion, Mass Effect, and other games with an XBox 360 controller.
  14. Those shots are very impressive! I too can't wait to explore that cave! My only tiny gripe is that one of my pet peeves is window objects entirely on the outside of walls, instead of realistically carved into the wall. For me, it's immersion breaking, because I KNOW that the window is just a fake game object slapped on the exterior of the wall. But I realize most people don't mind them at all, so if I were you I wouldn't worry about it
  15. Don't ever try to sell anything or they'll ban you
  16. That idea about the location sounds fine to me. You should avoid calling the main character Garrett though
  17. The bottleneck in this case is definitely the crappy video card, not the RAM - I doubt more RAM would make any noticeable difference at all.
  18. Yes you need to buy Doom 3, that link is just some little mod
  19. This post inspired me to finally finish editing the last video tutorial I recorded last November and finally put it up online! It's finished rendering, and I'll get it posted at ShadowDark and later on YouTube (in segments) and post links here... EDIT: Here is the full length video: Your First Two Rooms (720-30p 232MB, 24:52, 6mbps) On YouTube: segment A segment B segment C (NOTE - as of right now, the vids are still only low res on YouTube because they are still being "processed")
  20. I recommend building on grid, always. But you can do some angled stuff if you're smart about it. 45 degrees is easy peasy, just make everything exactly diagonal. But you can stay on grid and build everything 2 to 1 for instance, where the wall lines go over two for every one they go down, and this angle is pretty different enough to look "organic" and "off grid" for variety's sake, but still be clean and perfectly on grid for the engine's sake.
  21. Yes, definitely the foot. I've kicked in a couple of locked doors and I can't imagine the waste of time it would have been getting them open with a sword
  22. Looking amazing, I'm excited to see the community reaction after this baby is released!
