  2. I agree with Dram that patches might be a better approach to the roadways. You'll just need to have real brushwork below the patches but somewhat close
  3. ha ha! Yeah, frickin lack of zombies did us in! I guess it's mostly just a popularity contest, even the Editor picks really, and not a pure quality test. 'Cause man, Dark Mod is insane quality, way over their heads I guess (no bias here, purely objective observation!)
  4. I do, but I don't know when I'll get the time. I want to make some more beginner video tutorials, and make a small map or two, and maybe a large one eventually. I absolutely LOVE DarkRadiant and the Dark Mod, but just don't have much spare time for the past year. Maybe later this year
  5. Turning off shadows might not be as disastrous as everyone thinks - most torches and other lights have a relatively small radius anyway, so there would be occasional glaring bleed-through areas, but overall it might actually work without too much problem (maybe)
  6. It's mostly a matter of effort versus payoff. It's very much easier to just pack it with default settings, no worries, quick and easy, no bother to set up the ideal settings. And no one really cares about 10 MB vs 8.5 MB (or even 100 MB versus 85 MB), not nowadays, not when I've uploaded over 100 GB in the past few days, for instance And the slower unpacking would indeed be an extra bother that makes it even more not worth it
  7. I bought ME2 at the midnight release, been playing a lot for a few days. It's really good. There are some major changes, many big improvements, and some worse things too. CHANGES: Powers and abilities work VERY differently, totally redesigned (could be good or bad, probably good) There is ammo (in a way), which greatly changes the whole approach to gun-fighting A lot of interface stuff is streamlined or simplified, may be good or bad depending IMPROVEMENTS: Places are much larger (so far) and more uniquely detailed, very cool environments Graphics and effects are even better No load-in textures Some very cool features on the ship Cool new conversation "moments" Very cool new decryption and hacking mini-games Combat is smoother and more engaging (I love the separate melee control, for instance) NEGATIVES: Controls are not customizable enough (to me) Load times are MUCH worse, have to wait such a long time just to change decks on the ship, etc Small problems, such as no mouse wheel support in the menus, can't cancel a power choice, etc There is occasional swearing (I think this is negative) The whole vibe is much darker and almost sinister, as opposed to the bright wonder elicited from the first game Planet mining (so slow!)(but some will love this) There's probably a lot more to praise and/or complain about, but overall I'm very happy with it and just can't wait to see what's going to happen next. I'm also planning how I will do things differently on my next play-through.
  8. Just want to third Springheel's point. When playing Bafford for the first time, I was truly fascinated by the texts, the collection ledgers, the talk of the jewelry box maker, etc, all hinting at a living breathing city out there. It REALLY created a ton of cool fantasy immersion for me, something that made me love Thief much more than I would have otherwise. It wasn't kid console-friendly stuff. It was serious and real. And I, as the thief, got to secretly discover this stuff, learn about people's hidden interactions, stuff like that. Very cool.
  9. I ALWAYS use YYYY-MM-DD, it makes the most sense for natural sorting purposes. The absolute worst system is the dumb American habit of MM-DD-YY, so that today is 10-06-10, wth??? Talking is one thing, but when it's written down as part of vital information, it should be with a reasonable classification system, which is Year - Month - Day, all numerical.
  10. Maybe recovered arrows could do half damage? Probably better to implement a 50/50 chance of arrow breaking upon recovery attempt
  11. That's how I would definitely prefer it, separate loader program. It just bugs the heck out of me that Doom 3 has to open twice. I know it's basically the same difference, but it just FEELS wrong, dangit!

It's a button right at the top of DR, to the right of "Drag-resize entities symmetrically" If you still can't find it, and you have the latest version of DR, then it's a classic case of needing to delete the right settings user file (I'm sure you know this, but for future posterity who may stumble upon this thread...). On one of my XP systems it's in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\DarkRadiant, on the other I go into "Owner" instead of "Administrator" but the rest is the same. In Vista the path starts with C:\Users. I'm not sure exactly which files in there are for what, but at least one of them is the culprit. For a video explanation, see this at 4:42 and then at 8:26
  16. Ha! I had no idea about that. I once started a Dark Mod map (a couple years ago!) to recreate The Sunless Citadel, but I didn't get further than the first few rooms, and those were only very basic.
  17. Yeah, it's optional, and I prefer it off as well, as it's easy to forget to move the brush back in all the planes
  18. You need to dmap again after most changes, but I can't remember if moving the player start is one of them

  21. I haven't tested any drivers sets since the 8.7, so perhaps some newer ones would work well, but I have no idea
  22. That's a graphics driver issue/bug. I'm guessing you have an ATI card. I had the same exact issue a couple years ago, experimented with various drivers at the time, and found one that works best. If you have a relatively newer driver, you might consider rolling it back to an older one. Just in case they help you at all, here are my old notes from around July of 08, with the numbers representing different sets of ATI Catalyst drivers: ----------------- 8.5 The worst problems (can't "fix" it by selecting and deselecting a brush) were with ATI drivers Catalyst 8.5. Previously (in Feb when I first reported wacked graphics) I'm not sure which drivers I was using, I think maybe 7.12 7.11 wacked has yet to show up, no problems for a few hours of work (but with 7.11 I can't have dual monitors with the second monitor on the left, crazy) 8.7 works for my dual monitor again, that's good. Nope, bad bug showed up pretty quickly. 7.12 has the old minor bug that I can cure by selecting and de-selecting a brush. It shows up in around 10 minutes, (about as fast as the newer bad bug does in 8.5 and 8.7) but only if I'm selecting and moving around entities or lights. SUMMARY 7.11 - no bug (not even lesser bug), but dual monitor problems (no bug is GREAT, but want to put up with dual monitor issues?) 7.12 - old "lesser" bug (shows up with entities, lights, can be "cured" temporarily), dual monitors okay! (lesser bug annoying but perhaps livable?) 8.5 - bug, dual monitors okay 8.7 - bug, dual monitors okay -------------------- So, I would suggest reverting to Catalyst 7.11 if you don't have a dual monitor setup with the secondary monitor on the left. In case you haven't done much with drivers, here are a few pointers: DOWNLOADS - Download the "new" driver package ahead of time so you have it ready. You can find past ATI Catalyst sets for XP 32bit here: http://downloads.gur...nload.php?id=18 - If you have a laptop, you'll probably need to use Mobility Modder to be able to install different ATI Catalyst drivers. Download and instructions for that are here: http://www.driverhea...net/modtool.php PROCEDURE - First try the "uninstall all" file ATI includes in most driver sets. You have to manually browse to it, probably within "Program Files/ATI/Support/blah blah blah/UninstallAll" or something like that. - If that's not available, do a basic uninstall from your Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs and uninstall ATI Display Driver, ATI Catalyst Control Center, and possibly ATI Software Uninstall Utility. - Do a system restart - Cancel any attempt by Windows to install a video driver. - IMPORTANT - run Driver Cleaner Pro (there is a free version out there, I think on guru3d.com) or a similar program, to fully wipe out any remaining ATI driver files embedded within various Windows system folders - Do another system restart (not sure if this one is essential, but it's a good idea) - Again, cancel any attempt by Windows to install a video driver. - Run the Catalyst 7.11 driver install file (probably following the Mobility Modder instructions:) ........(let files extract, probably to C:\ATI) ........(Cancel further driver install) ........(Run Mobility Modder program, browse to "C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-11_xp32_blah_blah_blah" and do the modifying) ........(Browse to "C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-11_xp32_blah_blah_blah\ Driver" and run Setup.exe) - Do the required System restart - DONE!
