So, how do any of you feel about "Map Ideas"? I have no time, motivation or big enough desire, sorry 'bout that, to make maps myself, but I do have a lot of ideas, maybe a good mapper would pick up and make it, or even make it up his own? Always loved giving some "artistic freedom".

I've been thinking alot about indentations in the last time.
-
Listen, I'm not mad, scripters. Well, maybe just a little upset, but mostly bewildered.
I'm reading all these script files, and their indentation, and I'm just picturing some sort of frat party going on, where everybody is plastered, and is sometimes just making out while sitting on the spacebar.
I mean you have heard of indentation, right? ...like properly nested indentation?
...because the first time I looked at one of your script files, I was like "Oh! So this is a sort of indentation based nesting, that looks very complex now, but which I'm just going to have to learn.".
...but no. Apparently this is obfuscation that makes every script look like "ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn".
Why?
Just why?

So a man walks into a bar and says "uniform code formatting is a good thing" and everyone nods, mumbles agreement, even invites him to sit down.
Hearing of this wisdom, Nort rushes to the same bar, lights himself on fire and kicks in the door. "YOU GUYS ARE MORONS" he screeches, pitching a child through a window and ripping off his sweater vest, "DID U JUST CRAWL OUT OF THE SWAMP OR WHAT I CANT EVEN WITH THIS FORMATTING." He then sits down at the bar, still on fire, and asserts that everyone else there must be touched because they find his approach less than diplomatic.
While reading this, I'm picturing this in my head as an ingame cutscene.

Colleagues are people that you are assigned to work with. You know their roles and rank, and together you accomplish tasks professionally and without distractions.
The thing with wanting to have me as some sort of internet friend, is that you wouldn't want me as a friend. I look at living things and I just see food. I look at dead things and I see my friends. ...but as long as we both stick to work, then I'll make an excellent colleague.
I think that I wouldn't visit the forum if everyone is like a colleague. With forum conversation I rather see something in between a friend and a colleague. If you meet a new colleague which has a mutual interest in a specific topic, what could possibly come from that?

No, I am actually, literally wondering this. Go look at a random def script file. It looks like a bomb exploded in there. ...in every one of them. It looks like the writing of a madman.
I would find it more useful if you would give a couple of examples and then ask the question why there's no properly nested indentation in core def files.
I looked in a bunch of core def files and they seem fine to me, but possibly they could look even nicer.QuoteI'm starting to doubt that any of you even have Dark Radiant installed on your computers at this point. ...or maybe this has turned into some sort of a joke at my expense - don't know, don't care. Fine: Don't send me files. Turns out I didn't need them anyway.
The reason I didn't supply them was because I have read somewhere that creating proper dds files is not simply a conversion. Instead I shouldn't have answered in the topic. On the other hand I think the forum is for discussing stuff, even if this doesn't always help the OP (this is not trolling).
What happened in that thread was that you asked for a dds file and everyone answering pointed to ways to get it yourself. This means that everyone tries to be helpful, but not in the way you ask.

You know how there are these long videos which turn your TV into a fireplace on christmas?
Well, can we make a video with just videos of happy, friendly farm animals? ...for dogs? I notice that they get really happy when there are animals on TV, and how bored they are just lying around the house most of the day. When we leave them alone, we could just turn on the TV and have them be happy all day instead. It'll be like ASMR, but for pets.

Fiddling around with a new tdm-in-webbrowser project: boxedwine 32bit and emscripten.

While I did find Springheel's brushwork pretty questionable, I guess engine performance must also have come a long way during the recent five years, because I can safely say that the kind of performance issues that he's talking about in this video, just didn't happen to me when I fully opened up my basement with all its unoptimized brushwork. The framerate was capped at a nice 60 FPS no matter how I tried, and with visportals on top of this, and the complexities turned into "func_static":s, an uncapped framerate would just be obscene, at least for graphics cards only a few years old. I no longer have any worries about large areas and vistas - I'll just go nuts. It's gonna be fine.

Some mappers have made a special mappers topic. For example this thread:
Doing a lot of status updates in a short time makes it hard to follow less frequent posters. But this is partly a forum limitation, it should i.m.o. only show the most recent post of one user.

It might work fine on your system, which makes it hard to make an estimate for others.

Did I mention how absolutely grateful I am that TDM didn't get (and can never be) assimilated by a huge company like Microsoft, as is what happened to Minecraft?

Hey greebo, I was wondering what the newest DM version is and my question is does it contain all of the previous fixes from all other updates? ... I am using version 2.14.0_revea114 with the widget 3.1.3 and the build date is Nov 3 2021. I like this version because zoom on cursor, and the hor/virt scale was fixed on small faces ( wouldn't go lower than 1) So, does the newest version contain all of this and more? can't find this info. - THANK YOU! must say, this editor is fantastic btw! - DeeP

The TDM script reference on the wiki page seems to be pasted twice over. It's already a long enough page as it is...

The final solution for low-end GPUs:
r_skibSubviews 1 r_skipInteractions 1 r_shadows 0 r_ambientMinLevel 0.6
tdm_lg_interleave 0If you don't get 60 fps after this then either your CPU is really slow or it's a map bug
EDIT. tdm_lg_interleave is probably not required since r_skibSubviews supersedes it.

Say, I know it's been a while since the site got overhauled from the crash. But did we ever figure out if/how to get the recent topics & replies list back? It's not a total deal breaker but it was nice for becoming a thread creeper again...

I finally got around to play Prey and I truly loved it. It is an incredible homage to System Shock and Deus Ex. While the gameplay is not en par with those two titles, the game makes up for that with its well written lore and story. The whole "world" just feells so authentic and it features a ton of really god environmental story-telling. Recommended for every immersive sim fan, i.e., everyone on this forum.
