    TDM Forums

Have I been hacked or is the site being rebuilt or hacked?
  2. When I start TDM, I can hear a music box ticking and playing and, when I move my cursor around, I can hear it clicking over buttons as it scrolls over them, but I can't see the menu screen, although I can see my cursor-it all looks completely black. The console works, as it's the only way I can quit, but the menu screen itself doesn't show at all.
  3. I'm having a bit of trouble with my resolution settings. I had to recently reinstal my game. Doom 3 and TDM went in just fine. But everytime I load the mod, regardless of the resolution, the entire title screen is oversized so that I only see the top half of the thief and the left corner of the title menu. I've tried manually setting darkmod.cfg and creating an autoexec.cfg to 1920x1080, r_mode -1. Nothing works. If I go to windowed mode, I can get the game to display in a low resolution 480 window, but that's about it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, and keep up the good work. This is a truly amazing mod you've created.
  4. Just wanted to say, Hello! From reading through various posts in the forums it seems like a great community and I hope to become a part of it. So I got the hankering for some Thief as of late and stumbled on TDM through some googling. After purchasing Doom 3 through Steam and instaling TDM, I have been nostalgiacly playing through many of the FMs and have also decided to d/l the Radiant editor and start making a mission, maybe many, we'll see. As it turns out also, I just started (today!) my 1 week vacation from work and intend to dive in to the Radiant editor and am currently going through the A-Z wiki on it. A bit of background on me, I 'used' to work in application support till the economic crash a couple years ago and was laid off and am now running a machining center at a local machine shop, using Mastercam daily, 2D/3D stuff and have always wanted to make a mission/game, and decided since I've always enjoyed the Thief series and stealth gameplay so much, this is where I would start. After getting to my third year in Mechanical Technology I changed my major to Information Technology (should have went with straight Computer Science but ahhh hindsight). I've always loved building things and designing things and also really enjoy computers, art, audio, and the entire visual experience as presented to a user. I have created a couple playable maps before using the older source engine editor so I'm vaguely familiar with 3D modeling, skyboxes, lighting, AI pathing, etc. That's been over 10 years ago though. I got familiar with 3dsmax, ProE, Autocad, and Mastercam in my first major during school so that helps a bit when familiarizing with a new editor and as previously mentioned I've dabbled around in the Valve Source editor. I'm also very much looking forward to the Crucible of Omens campaign created by the marvelous talent at TDM and would like to help in any way I can once I'm familiar with the Radiant engine. I can also do many many voices, I've often thought about moving out to Cali from Indiana and finding work in voice-overs, voice acting, etc. All this started as a youngster with little friends, time on my hands, and imaginary friends. Wow that's hard to admit. So anyway, I've been working on a shadowy Garrett voice, and can do guards and some women characters with old, old english, gruff, slippery, sneaky, terrifying, voices and personalities. Just thought I'd mention that as it may be a way that I could contribute early on and would also enjoy. So anyway, too much about me and not enough A-Z wiki, back to the tutorial! Glad to be here and hope for good things to come.
  5. I haven't been around too much recently, but when I do look into the forums every so often, I am always amazed how much progress is being made on the mod. Great work people!

I wish there was a way we could play against each other on line.

True but its Chess meets Thief! The best gimmick ever!

  6. The current font in the gamma setting screen was unspecified, which means D3 loaded a "default" font from "fonts/english". There are a few problems with that: * it does not work in Russian at all, leading to an empty screen * it contains no accented characters (making it look crappy in some western languages like German) * Without D3, the screen is empty There are two ways we can fix that: * use another, already existing font (preferable something that does not look that modern) * OR: find a suitable russian version of the font, and then patch the D3 font to contain accents. However, for a D3 free TDM, we need a replacement, anyway, so find a replacement font for western (preferable with Umlauts, otherwise we need to patch them in), too. I have now opted for the first, because I couldn't find a suitable free font (and the "patch the umlauts in"-problem would still remain). One font I found containing both accented characters and russian ones was 29$ - but the license was a bit unclear (it talked about embedding the font, while we only need the images). So, the only font from our already existing selection that seemed suitable/readable was Medusa: Two problems still exist: * The former modern font is replaced by something looking more old, making the entire screen now a mixed case of old font and newish outline. However, I was never really satisf. with the "modern" gamma screen inset. Maybe we should convert it to parchment instead? * The umlauts are missing. This needs to be fixed for readables, anyway, so this problem will go away with time.

I never got into BSD, though I've installed it once or twice. This is another reason to check it out.

The BSD's arn't for everyone, but within their goals, simple code and mailing lists lies a lot of goodness and simplicity. I love the underdogs. Anyhoo work will be Linux friendly too. Portability is a cornerstone for good code.

  7. For the last 24 hours, my lovely 9-month-old high-spec laptop has been stuck in hibernation mode, and nothing I've done so far has changed anything. Whatever I do when I power the laptop up, it comes up with the usual 'Resume from Hibernation' screen that it's always done, and then - it justs sits there. There's hard drive activity for about five seconds, and then nothing. For the record, I've taken the battery out, and tried various combinations of i) holding the 'power on/off' button for anything from 10 - 60 seconds while connected/disconnected from the mains power; ii) powering up the laptop and then switching off the mains power; iii) hammering away at the F8 (and other F buttons) like a demented woodpecker while powering it up. It's possible that I configured the 'power on/off' button to send the laptop into hibernation mode way back, but can't really remember as I haven't used it to power the laptop down for ages, only to turn it on. From the internet searches I've done, it sounds like it's a problem with Windows rather than the laptop (memory leaks - ? - from open programmes, espec. Firefox - ???), which, if it's the case, means a big thumbs-up to Microsoft there!!! Any suggestions very welcome! P.S. Currently back on my old Intel HD-integrated graphics-powered Samsung, and last night relived the visual splendour of playing Glenham Tower at an average fps of about, ooh, 7

(We can leave the thread for journalism corruption, but just on this...) Then the issue in academia is money flowing to the more corruptable fields like science & engineering with the big corporate grants & revolving door with staff. The humanities might not get that, but OTOH they are getting pressured to "justify their existence" financially. I could probably agree it's rife in almost any human field though, as long as there are incentives there will be corruption.

    3. demagogue

      demagogue

Or then we have the "uncorruptable" critical academics, but then they're basing their work on Derrida or Marx and are so detached from reality they throw their credibility out the window. It's good to be critically detached, not so good to be derailed from reality. My position in law sometimes is something like a critical realism, but it's practically an orphan position. (You want to protect victims *and* think science works??? Wha...?)

Who is uncorruptable anyways? I cannot convince even myself that I would be uncorruptable in every situation. And I perceive myself to be situated in the more-reliable-than-50%-of-the-general-population side in the gaussian distribution curve of corruption. Problematic, yes?

  8. The Problem: I can see the mouse cursor and the Steam overlay when I run TDM, but otherwise the screen is black. Gauging by the audio and my ability to exit the game by a bit of careful mouse-clicking and guesstimation, it seems the game is running fine apart from the lack of video. My End of Things: Core i5, 32GB RAM, nVidia 460 2GB graphics card, 100s of GB free HDD space on a 1TB drive C. Windows 7 Ultimate. Steam version of Doom3, claiming to be the correct version for TDM. Custom shortcut to run the game: "C:\Games\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 9050 +set fs_game_base darkmod" Customised resolution in C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Doom 3\darkmod\DoomConfig.cfg to 1920*1200, Disabled Threaded Optimisation in nVidia Control Panel. I made this change after having a glance at the TDM Wiki. Enabling Threaded Optimisation does not appear to have any effect. What I'm Thinking It appears the game resets DoomConfig to a display resolution of 7xx*4xx whenever I run it. I've tried to write-protect the file, but that didn't stop the game from changing it. And I'm guessing the weird resolution the game insists on is outside the range of my panel (a nice, if older, Eizo 26" with a native resolution of 1920*1200).
  9. For the last 1-2 weeks the forums have been really slow and unresponsive for me, when I type a post half the time it just sits there etc.. is anyone else having the same issues..?
  10. Does anybody else have this problem? In the (European) evenings the forum is unbearable slow. The server is delivering about 8Kbyte/s, sometimes less and usually stops midwhere during loading the page. Sometimes you can't even get the index page, sometimes you can log in, but then only get half of the overview etc. In the mornings everything is snappy.
  11. A certain famous screen-shot artist (site) might be doing a series on TDM. Keep those fingers crossed!

Can you "PCF" stencil shadows? Or perform some sort of inexpensive reverse ramp from the silhouette edge?

Or does that method only allow for a single attenuation value?

  12. I've upgraded IPB to the latest stable version, and since this was a major upgrade (from 2.3.6) I also had to re-do the forum style. Most of the new stuff is in place, but I bet that the logo will be changed. One of the many new features in version 3 is rating of posts and also a "report spammer" ability which will make it easier to single out spam bots and ban then at sight. Hopefully this will stop some of the spam threads we've seen recently. Make sure to empty your browser cache if you're experiencing any problems. And please report any errors etc in this thread. Cheers, ~m2
  13. I can't login to Steam forums. Please visit the Thief release threads and mention TDM Thanks!

  14. Hello Taffers, Today when I tried TDM, and the resolution was not full screen. I don't know why, i changed absolutely nothing. This is the effect on my screen: http://bayimg.com/nAkOOAADG (the game start perfectly but not scale at full screen, i have alway the the little black border on left high, as you can see on the image) I tried configuring a lot of settings in the doomconfig.cfg on the darkmod root, but without any success :-( Any idea/suggestion to solve this? My HW/SW configuration is on my sign.
