  1. Yeah I remember saying exactly that in another thread http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showt...=database&st=50 This is the thread where I first pointed out the misleading idea instilled by the "Cyberdeamon in new york" Doom 3 screenshot. and on that page I said this; Just one of many tricks you can use.

    Elder Scrolls Iv

Hell, Gamespot are doing a live stream of a guy playing Oblivion 12 hours a day. I watched it for about an hour - it's more then enough. The game looks to be pretty fun and good imo. The stream vid link is somewhere on the Oblivion forums.
  4. Well, so far so good. I'm getting a whopping 1 frame per second; even during the "face creation" page where there's absolutely nothing on the screen except a face and a horribly detailed background. I'm re-starting the game now to try 640 x 480. Bethesda may have raped me again, like they did with Morrowind. How do they manage to create the poorest performing games in known history every time?
  5. A really good long user video in this thread: http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.p...c=275592&st=20#
  6. That's the problem with the Thief world. LGS just chucked in any arbitrary thing they fancied from high fantasy magic to futuristic tech to gritty realism, from medeival castles to Victorian factories to art deco mansions.. It's totally inconsistent nonsense really, and that's why it leads to so many arguments as to what should or shouldn't be in the setting.
  7. I wouldn't be so bitter about it ... to me they were just joking around, and even then mostly about Slash's free use of the term "official", not really about anything he was going to make per se. Also, I think TDM's quality will largely be able to speak for itself ... It's not like the team is going to be policing what can and can't be made with it. Dromed never got a wiff of LGS support and the Editor's Guild is notorious for attacking the latest mega-projects; doesn't seem to make T2 FM-making any less popular. And even if some guys do appear to attack some projects with a roll of their eyes, sometimes mega-visions should be chastized a little to force the creators to defend them or at least think realistically about them. If Slash thinks what they said was unfair, he can try to convince them otherwise. Anyway, this thread looks exactly like the one in the Off Topic forum, so my answer will be the same: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?s=&sh...indpost&p=61672
  8. I'm at a loss as to why this is being argued as if it's being considered for the toolset, it isn't. As I've stated, the toolset will have the standard system. This is for FM authors. When the toolset is finished and we begin work on a campaign, then we'll look at these ideas and decide how they will work. Until then, I think we should all drop it and quit making fools of ourselves with schoolyard tactics in the public forums.
  9. The problem is, how much image quality are you willing to give up? The DOOM III engine is state-of-the-art, so naturally if you go for high quality levels it's going to take more processing power to render it at a decent speed. But the DOOM III engine also makes for gorgeous highly immersive levels. And considering how much effort it will take to recreate Garrett's city, at least the parts we know about already from Thief I, II and III, you might as well go for a recreation that looks awesome anywhere go you go in the city. As this would be something used in FM's for years and years to come, so it's best to aim high on detail and let the hardware catch up. It'll run a little slow on average hardware when it first comes out, but fast gaming systems will run it quite well. And as faster and faster computers become available it will become commonplace for Thief fans to have systems that can run the full city level at super fast frame-rates. Then everyone will be glad that the city was made to look so good in the first place.
  10. Not without the source code...some tweaks are possible, and I've released some myself...but the kind of optimization won't happen without source code...or someone who can reverse engineer really well. There is no Thief sub forum, for the simple reason that this is the official forum for "The Dark Mod", and having "classic Thief" directly on our site, is likely not a wise step for a mod that is already treading a very fine line when it comes to intellectual property. We're glad you think highly of us, but we are not here to take people away from the already great Thief community forums that exist out there. TTLG and Eidos provide a wonderful community for the fan base. When our toolset is released, we hope that they will create a sub forum for us, much like they did with Thievery.
  11. Could some one actualy optimiz the engine? since ION is gone there is no hope for the game so if some one made a custom patch that re optimizas the engine then the game might run way better. might be posible. and why in the fuck is there no thief series channel in your forums. this web site should be the fucking data base of the thief community. everyone should be here in steed of looking glass forums or small forums through out the net. and the circle will never update so what ever. you mod is the future of thief btw. if you havent realized. if i was u i would make a whole thief series section below the dark mod ones.
  12. Ive been play TDS for the past few days and im kind of likeing it a little more then i use to. dunno why. maybe cause ive been out of the thief community for quite a while and now my opinion on it is diffrent. but that doesnt mean i like it lol. but i do like the look of the game tho. if they only spent more time on it and made it in a better engine. parts of the city are vary nice and even tho i dont like that you have to run around a lot and keep crossing the city just to get to a mission, thats just stupid imo. the city looks vary nice tho, vary thiefy. what i want to know is will the dark mod be like this. where you have to run around a city and all that crap that no one wants to do or will it be like thief 1 N 2. where you buy your stuff at the start of the mission and when its over a video plays and you start the next one. theres no runing around to missions. shit do i hate TDS now. ( why do i talk about shit i hate ) ive got some more question if you want to wast your time lol. the Objective and Map screens. when you press your O or M key and you map and objective shows up you know. well in TDS the map is like a universal thing. you can see every map you have colected and its not a full screen. it sort of pops up in front of you and there is no way to switch to objectives from the map window. also you never no where you realy are. In the originals. the map would fill the screen. you would only see the maps for that misson. and where you are would highlight in yellow. so you know where you are. also there would be a option to switch to objectives. will TDM stay with the classic look of the full screen map that pauses the game and you have more control over you map/object's then just back? also the maps in tds look realy gay. they look like they where made in paint lol. also the inventory and weapons and also health. i got a question that is vary important to the look of the game. the health bar. what are u planing for that. will the health be much like the original or just that same as. or are you going to try something new. also the inventory and weapons. are you planing anything dumb like TDS where the gears move and it has a gay little blue light behind it and when you put your weapons away the blue light stays. or are you going to make it look classic. almost the same if not exactly the same as the first two. with spining weapons and you inventory that only shows one item and it moves in the bottem right and your weapons in the left. Are we to expect the exact same look and setup and also feel as thief I and II in this area? another stupid lighting question. In the originals your sword would get a light glem when light is shinning off it. will this be the same in TDM. it is a vary realistic part of the first two cause a sword is reflective. when light hits it a gaurd will see it easyer then would or cloth. Inventory Items............ ooowwowwww i know that the only part of thief 2 i didnt like was your items. i perfer not to get to advanced in my thiefing. the scouting orbs and invisible potions and slow falling potions (LOL) are a bit much and out of this world. thief 1 had a way better inventory even tho it was smaller it lack the stupid stuff that made the game less thiefy. if you know what i mean. are you planing on includeing all of the avalible ithems in both thief 1 and 2, maybe a few from 3. i know i liked the oil u throw on the ground. lol. funnny shit. lock picking, Keys and other stuff. one thing about tds i do like is the lock picking. the minimalest age made it vary tricky to get doors open in time. a realy cool thing. but i am a big fan of the classic setup so go ither way with it i realy dont care. but keys on the other hand. i didnt like the fact that in tds you never have keys in your inventory. the cool thing about this is how indepth it is. you have to take your time and do everything. even look through keys to find the right one. what are the plans for these things. will keys be in our inventories or will it be like tds. Mechanists. i hate them. lol. to advanced for thief. hammers are perfect, keepers as well. i realy liked mages to and wished that LG went with mages and hammers in T2 insted of mechs but what can you do. mechs are way out of the thief world i think. mechines dont belong in thief imo. well not walking talking ones anyway lol. i have seen the art work of the inventors which sounds realy cool. maybe a lesser intelegent mechinest. more mid evil, thief era. realy cool concept so thumbs up to who ever thought of the inventors but what are the plans for mechs in tdm. will you include them or are we sticking to the thief 1 line up. Realese Date....Single player chapain lol. how many times will u have to read about a release date. but you know i cant wait to start useing the editor and such. from a scale of 1% to 100% how fare are we? and about the SP game. are you working on maping and stuff atm. from your screens id think that there pritty solid maps. not just to show off your ability you know. so are you makeing everything you need to make you game and working on it at the same time so when this is release we are left hanging. i mean ill be fucking pissed if there is no game to play at release. what are your plans for a SP game? is it in dev? are you even going to tell us? a ........................................ .. DEMO and VIDEO's well i also want to know one last thing. are there any plans of recording some in game play and activitys or what ever so we can see how good your game looks in real time. not just screens. and also i think it would be amazing if you put out a demo. a one map thing. there doesnt even have to be objectives. just something people can play and realy find out just how thiefy this game is going to be. and how it will feel. thats vary important imo. Thx for read this, latzz
  13. Macsen: Journalist with some interest in writing, architecture and fantasy. Does some work for the Hammerite Imperium and Dark Mod from time to time. ZylonBane: Obsessive compulsive fidgety nanny who gets riled up over the smallest mistakes. Probably a member of the apostrophe society. Does nothing for Thief other than try his best to scare fans away from the forums. Who is the loopy one? I have too many bones in my mouth to comment.
  14. That the city would vary in style is not really a problem. If you look at really old cities, they also have different styles. Vienna has pretty old buildings and totally modern ones side by side, and this also varies from district to district. That variation is more an indicator of age, then a wrongly conceived missguided art direction.
  15. Moving them to our assets is a very bad thing. If the code is GPLed, we can a redistribution version of our mod, but this means that it may NOT include any art assets that are not creaeted by us. We could create our own CD or downloadpackage for redistribution as long as no Id assets are included, because these are not open sourced.
  16. Starforce shall soon die. > Not only did that Starforce forum admin boner post a link to wares right on the forums (linked earlier), and public voices are speaking out (editor of PC gamer, also linked IIRC?), but more publishers are stepping up and refusing to use it. No StarForce in NA SpellForce 2
  17. Hmmmm, this post is very much like you, oDDity. What is the exact difference between Ishtvan goes to the model forums because he needs something model-ish and oDDity goes to the sound forums because he needs something sound-ish ?
  18. oDDity

    Sfx Requests

Exactly, and if programmers need any special modifications for models they come an tell me about it, there's no need for me to search the coding forums looking for something that might interest me, it's usually all illegible nonsense as far as I'm concerned. At least when you guys come to the modeling forum you can look at the pretty pictures. Still, hopefully everyone knows where to look for sounds now.
  19. It looks like you used an atlas unwrap. YOu really want to use unfold3d. http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showtopic=2052
  20. Hmm, do you think a request thread in the beta-mapper forums would make sense? Or even better, a feedback thread? My point is that I'm unaware of any feedback from people actually using ambients and sfx so far, but we need that in order to straighten things out. I fear that in a year or so someone will drop in and say "sorry Schatten, but your ambients pop so much they burst my eardrums". I'd rather be able to fix issues in a progressive manner than to rework the whole bunch.

i was thinking you should have a support paypal tho, pay 5$ US or so and be able to be testing the latest builds with the team and provide feedback in the dev forums. I'd pay simply cuz I wanna help... course youd have to put stipulations on ppl, like make them sign a non disclosure agreement so they cant leak crap without being sued. anyhow just a thought to earn the team money.
  22. sparhawk

    Starforce

Yeah. We could do that, but we still would have to esnure that there is no art asset used from the original game, because only the source is GPL'ed.
  23. Vadrosaul

    Starforce

Starforce possibly intentionally discrediting developers: http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10527 IMO the majority of those who crack games do so because they never had any intention of buying it. You don't really lose a sale. That doesn't make it right, obviously, but that's just how it is. You were never going to make that sale.
  24. I don't have any images with a mesh on them handy, but here's an example of a texture and normalmap. and here's the normal map generated from the highpoly model with d3's renderbump: Which was used for the following model: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?act=A...ype=post&id=774

You see this is where you are wrong HL2 was a mediocore game in many people's opinions as well. The only thing it has going for it is a mod that Valve did not create in the first place. Giving away the source is not giving away the assets. You cannot download the source code and play the game, you still need all the art assets so you have to buy it. Valve could release the source to HL1 and you would not be ble to play it without buying it so it doesn't matter at all about the revenue. I actually think at some point they might release it but if they do it won't matter much as there are already much more advanced engine source released. As to why they did not support the modding scene, it is because id is not a huge company run by a huge man who has an excessive number of employees that actually do all the work for him. In otherwords no one has time to do it. Though if you knew much about it you would know they recently hired someone for just that purpose (although he has other responsibiilties as well) Here you can read about it. I do not know if he will actually do his job or not though. In relation to this and TDM. If youguys wait until the engine is GPL'ed then you should release your own product on CD. Remember you can sell it as well as long as you include your own source code. I find it funny that Carmack has long advocated people try this, but no one has been willing to expose their own source code even though he gave his away.
