Windows 7 (64) and TDM

I was able to install Doom3 and install TDM fine, however when using the TDMlauncher, TDM does not load, it just comes up as Doom3. Has anybody run into this problem? The log file appears OK.

A temporary solution was to copy over my entire TDM folder from my XP installation and then it seemed to work after I tweaked video settings. I occasionally experience a CTD now and then.

I was just wondering about the first question, I realize this probably has not been tested on Win 7 yet.

Thanks.

Isn't this what happens if you're not running the patched version of Doom3? You need v1.3.1.1304

Usually an incorrectly patched version of Doom 3 will simply cause a crash (runtime error) on load.

My games | Public Service Announcement: TDM is not set in the Thief universe. The city in which it takes place is not the City from Thief. The player character is not called Garrett. Any person who contradicts these facts will be subjected to disapproving stares.

It is definately 1.3.1.1304. Maybe something happened during the download/install. As i said once I copied the darkmod folder over from my XP setup, it does work. So anyways, bottom line is now it is working. Lucky I had the XP copy.

Maybe it is related to compatibility mode. I had problems with that pretty often...

Do you mean that you had it in compatibiliity mode? Or no compatibility mode? If you had it, which one worked for you?

It worked for me right from the start without compatibility mode, but this feature causes trouble pretty often and it is the only thing I can think of, that could possibly cause a problem like this. It sounded pretty weird that the downloaded files didn't work, but the xp-files instead, so I was guessing compatibility-mode failed once again...

However, I used the torrent-download and not the updater, which didn't work at all for me....

  • 2 weeks later...

A friend of mine tried running dark radiant(both the 32 and 64 bit version) on win7 and its running fine and all but cant open any maps. It crashes. It can open maps saved with it ( tried with just a textured hollowed room with a light). Previewing with f3 doesnt seem to work at all. Any idea?

I just upgraded to 7 64 bit and wasn't able to open maps.

I upgraded to 64 bit DR AND 64 grphic drivers. It now works but I don't know which made it work. (also, Aero can make the DR windows all white, turning it off (win7 basic or classic view) brings them back.

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
