DR 1.2.0 troubleshooting

This thread was bound to happen anyway.

Alright, a minor issue i've had with 1.1.0 before has now become a major issue. Back in 1.1.0 , loading some missions like patently dangerous into DR caused an error that said:

"This application has failed to start because dbgeng.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem".

For whatever reason, sometimes the error came up, sometimes not. Haven't run into it lately so i disregarded it.

After installing DR 1.2.0 this comes up every time i try to load DR. Where should this file be located and where can I obtain another copy? I've searched the wiki and forum for dbgeng.dll and dbgeng, nothing comes up.

Which version is it you downloaded from the website? Did you install the VC++ redist package?

Can someone else confirm this?

just tried reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86). no change, still the same error.

Still, which version did you download? 32 bit or x64?

woops forgot that part, 32 bit.

also, found a copy of dbgeng.dll on internet, copied it to system32 folder. DR no longer gives me the error window, but still crashes on load before the blue progress bar starts filling up. Heres a copy of the DR log:

Did a bit of googling and it seems like your error can occur due to NUMEROUS reasons. Have a look at this article. There are 13 ways listed how you could possibly fix the issue. Will be a bit of work, but there seems to be something off with your system, because I tested both versions before uploading and they worked perfectly...

That article explicitly warns of downloading random dlls from the web by the way! ;)

You could also try to reregister the dll using this command "regsvr32 dbgeng.dll".

I couldn't get the new version of darkradiant to run, and my problems was that I hadn't deleted the previous version completely from the darkradiant folder, uninstall had left some files behind that were stopping the new version from running.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )
