Fan Mission: The Knighton Manor - BETA

Sotha

Recommended Posts

Due to RL problems and mapping preference I cannot hold back the release of The Knighton Manor fan mission any longer.

So I suppose it is time to betatest and release this map. This is a small/medium sized map, about the size of The Beleaguered Fence and The Glenham Tower. (Sotha-sized so to speak. ^_^)

The Knighton Manor is a prequel for The Beleaguered Fence.

Any volunteers? 2-3 experienced mappers would be nice.

Also, Melan.. You've been so fantastic betatester in my previous map releases, so I would be really happy if you helped me out once again.

I'd also like to the testers pay special attention to the readables. I'm not a native english speaker so I really need help in that area.

Thank you very much!

After I get this map out, I'm gonna take a looooooooooooong break from mapping, at least half a year. I'll still hang around here and happily play other mappers contributions.

Ouch, we will miss you :-(

I'd be happy to help beta test Sotha, I enjoyed your previous missions. That's if you need a tester like me :P

Thanks for the invitation, but this time, I have to decline it. I have too many other things to do, and can't even put enough effort into my own map. :(

Looking forward to the finished FM, though!

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

I'm running Linux and willing to beta-test as well. I've got plenty of free time.

Thanks I think I have enough testers.

Attention betatesters!

New beta release is imminent within the next few hours. I recommend not bothering to test the old version you have.

Any chance we'll be seeing this before Thursday? I'm going somewhere over the weekend.

The testers now have the final beta and if there are no more critical bugs, I am aiming to release in thursday-saturday time period.

Sit tight..

Perfect! :D

Hey @nbohr1morehow come the zombies in The Dark Mod don't have a "resurrection" mechanic to it, similar to how Thief has it?
They're quite a weak creature as of right now, it's merely a walking corpse that slashes you, making attacking them to kill them an actual strategy.
Would be better if they had some cool mechanism to it that truly makes them a danger, such as the resurrection idea itself.

Query: when was the last time a zombie in a video game was unnerving or scary to you? I'm chipping away at my anniversary submission and I've been trying to gather opinions on the subject. I'm perfectly capable of lighting them well, changing their sfx, and creating effective ambience, but I'm worried that zombies at their core are just too overdone to be an effective payoff to the tension I'm creating.

Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.
