Bugs circa 1.03

Any way i can help debug the hangs? I'm seeing very serious hangs of the whole program and computer, (that is disturbing because i have a dual core anyway), and i have to power cycle the whole computer.

Do you have some kind of logging debug version i can use to narrow it down?

That sounds like its non-TDM related and rather more than its a driver that's having trouble.

What graphics card do you have? Soundcard? Windows etc?

I'm aware of some problem with AMD graphics drivers that could result in your PC hanging at a blackscreen or lines in TDM, but other than that... sounds a bit odd!

Hmmm, I'm not sure to what extent fglrx supports PowerPlay (iirc it was added a while back), but if it's anything like windows there's a good chance you're getting trouble from that.

I think you can disable PowerPlay in lunix via xorg.conf (assuming you're not using ubuntu where it's all so goddamn horribly convoluted), otherwise try enabling vsync.

Is this in the FAQ?

Nope, the problem is driver/hardware related and only hits a very small cross-section of users. Have you had any changes since disabling it? I'm trying to get AMD to fix the issue but so far they stonewall about anything related to the driver and power.

I haven't played enough, but i don't like how disabling it makes my computer grow hot (my last portable died because of overheating).

If i make both settings (when is plugged in or not) set to "maximum battery" would that fix it? (my idea is that there is no reason to change power if so, so it might be stable).

If it hasnt struck yet, I'd enable PowerPlay again :)

The black-screening and such it causes for some people is usually quite quickly visible, In this case I'd say that its something else.

Once its enabled and such, next time you have a hang or whatever, could you check your system logs, dmesg etc?

I'm having fps problems. The games framerate drops to less than 10 in certain areas of the game. For example in Glenham tower, once I got inside and walked closer to the dead man, framerate dropped. Once I backed away from him, the game continued to run smoothly. The same happened when I climbed on top of a broken elevator near some boxes in Betrayal.

Hey there,

Could you give us some details? GPU, CPU, RAM and OS are the most important.

What are your graphics settings?

Do you have EAX4 enabled?

There is also a section on the wiki about performance issues, take a look there if you havent :)

Win XP SP3, AMD X2 5000+, 3 GB RAM, ATI HD 3870 Sapphire just updated drivers, playing 1280x1024.

I got the problem fixed by disabling the catalyst A.I. and now it runs at 30-50fps no matter where I go. Thanks anyway.

I don´t know if I found a bug: After picking up a body, and putting him down again, the player makes the same 'arg, hrrg...'-sound as he does on picking up and there is no 'bump'-sound played when the body hits the ground. I experienced that now in Fidcal´s Sound-trainer.

I don´t think it was before like that...

You cannot receive PMs. Could you please be so kind and check your mailbox if it is full (or maybe you switched off the function)?

I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).

Well then, it's been about a week since I released my first FM and I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised by its reception. I had expected half as much interest in my short little FM as I received and even less when it came to positive feedback, but I am glad that the aspects of my mission that I put the most heart into were often the most appreciated. It was also delightful to read plenty of honest criticism and helpful feedback, as I've already been given plenty of useful pointers on improving my brushwork, level design, and gameplay difficulty.
I've gotten back into the groove of chipping away at my reading and game list, as well as the endless FM catalogue here, but I may very well try my hand at the 15th anniversary contest should it materialize. That is assuming my eyes are ready for a few more months of Dark Radiant's bright interface while burning the midnight oil, of course!
