The End Is Nigh

I think Sofa has said it better than I. Basically, it's up to the mappers foremost. And for them, they wanted a different set of brushes to work with, than what TDM has given them. I agree, it feels that you've greatly limited yourselves.

Hell, maybe I should just delete my mess of a last post. But, I'm tracing my steps and realizing that the best idea is to leave it. Leave it as an example of my evolution on this issue. I'm highly opinionated still, but willing to meet people halfway at least. If we can just get over the fact that entire projects must go about as they were originally intended, and go with that "chaotic surreal magic", as Demagogue said...

Then just maybe, we can see things finally moving as we all hoped for.

I don't think you can generalize like that. I am a Thief player of the first hours, and I am a member of TTLG far longer than I can remember. But then, I have moved on to TDM. So, why do you think that TDM hasn't been what I wanted?

Also, I disagree on the "TDM has to prove more". We are WAAAY past that stage. And to be honest, TDM isn't going to change anymore radically, it might get even better, but if it hasn't won someone over yet, then this will not happen.

People who still fault TDM (for whatever) will never be happy until it is 100% what they want (e.g. what they envision T2 to be), but we will never go that route. TDM is not Thief, and this is perfectly fine and actually what I want.

...

from who I've talked to, and what I've gathered, PEOPLE are not universally in on this game

...

there's alot of honest things you guys aren't picking up on.

..

alot of veteran map-makers have felt opposed to the whole look and feel of the game

Specifics?

Just not what everyone on TTLG was hoping for

Nothing is going to be what "everyone on TTLG was hoping for". Thief 2 wasn't. TDS wasn't, Thief 4 won't be, and TDM isn't either.

what you've done is you've run with this well-developed idea, and have not exactly been on the same page with the TTLG community.

See above.

But for the record, this project began on TTLG, and most of the people who worked on it are TTLG members.

The last 2 posts pretty much sum up that conversation, can someone remove this blight of a thread from the forums now? It must be distressing to new forum members to see one of the most active threads is one entitled "The End is Nigh".

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

If you find the new Beatles song "Now and Then", which was created with the help of AI, totally boring, then you should better play the mission of the same name by our esteemed mission maker friend joebarnin, because the latter is actually a creative milestone!

      Idea: Thief 3 style missions.
One of the great features of Thief 3 are missions defided in small segments with loading screens when you move from segment to segment. We all miss those right? I was thinking of mapping only horizontal, so not stacked. When you go up or down (stairs or elevator), you get a 20 seconds fake loading screen where you can play a minigame (The Builder's Blocks?). After that you get teleported to a different area that seems to be on top of the first, but actually isn't in the map file. It's much easier mapping, because you can see everything in one glance from above. This could also give more freedom building, because it doesn't have to fit. Everything is predictable because guards don't move to different sections.
This could be used for the Thief 3 contest possibly..

Just found out by accident how to change the tittle of a topic you made. You long-click (2 seconds) on a topic tittle, then you get an edit dialog to change the topic title.
The other way I know of is to edit the first post.

I always find it kind of strange that in DR you can't apply spawnargs on specific brushes (I think), but you can apply textures. But those are not listed as spawnargs, so they're difficult to see except if you select the brush and go into the Surface inspector.
Wouldn't it be easier if DR would list textures for every seperate brush in the entity view?
