Beta testing "In the North"

I started "In the North" a year ago, and it's pretty much ready to go. It's the first in a series of 8 missions, assuming I have the stamina to complete them. Since you need 2 or more missions to create a campaign, I won't release a campaign version until I have the 2nd mission ("Home Again") ready to release. Hopefully I'll be able to update the campaign version as each mission is released.

"In the North" depends on TDM 1.08, and will be released either at the same time as 1.08 or after 1.08, depending on how much beta testing can be done prior to 1.08's release.

To that end, I'd like to hear from interested beta testers who can--and are willing to--use darkmod from SVN for testing. If you're interested, and you're already used to pulling the latest darkmod setup from SVN, please say something here or send me a PM.

The package should be ready sometime in the next few weeks.

It's a large non-linear map, so it will take a fair amount of testing. 2 or 3 testers would be nice.

Here is a set of screenshots. (The splash screen in that set has since been replaced.)

Thanks, and looking forward to hearing from you.

Oh man, excited to see this one!

"No proposition Euclid wrote,

No formulae the text-books know,

Will turn the bullet from your coat,

Or ward the tulwar's downward blow

Strike hard who cares—shoot straight who can—

The odds are on the cheaper man."

Dont you want to be using 1.07, if so why do you want or need to compile..?

You're gonna need to have TDM SVN rights added to your current SVN access Biker.

Please visit TDM's IndieDB site and help promote the mod:

(Yeah, shameless promotion... but traffic is traffic folks...)

Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.

Trying to be productive on my down-time before Capcom releases Akuma and my son is constantly on my PC playing Street Fighter...

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.
